East Potomac Blue Course
The course is in great shape. Better singage is definitely needed. Could definitely use a Marshall. I would recommend playing thus course.
Slightly pricey for a consistent course
Course layout is consistent from hole to hole, not alot of challeneging holes.
Golf options
While in DC for a wedding I decided to check it out. There are very few choices for golf in the area and the East Potomac was quite beat up. Very little grass in the fairways and unkempt tee boxes. On the plus side were the greens, firm and fast, the way I like them. If I play golf in this area again hopefully this course is in better shape. All the staff were friendly and helpful, not they’re fault the course is rough.
Really bad condition
Hands down the worst condition of any municipal course I’ve played and it’s not even close. The fairways are all dead and dry, even in season. Random flooding and water. Some bunkers were just dirt and rocks. It just felt like it’s all in a state of disrepair. DC deserves better, especially since the location is unmatched. With some work this place could be incredible.
Big Disappointment
The lack of a drainage system really hurts this course. There was standing water everywhere, especially in the fairways. After hitting shots that I felt were good ones, I found that they were in a puddle of water…this happened 10-12 times drink the round.
Ever since they changed the fairways to Bermuda grass(?), you don’t hit from grass in the fairways until we’ll into April (yesterday, I was hitting from soft dirt or mud.
Overall, a very frustrating round…I drove from Annapolis, MD just to play.
Upgrades Needed
Even for a public course it should be in better condition. Tee boxes uneven, greens horrible shape with serious divot issues along with random animal holes with no carts available. I couldn't focus on playing while stepping in massive geese feces wet and dry all over the place. I'm told the course will shut down and get a face lift which it needs. Just because business is good, 100% by default as there's not many courses in the area.
Fun course, slow pace tho
The course was fun but being stuck behind two slow groups stretched out time out over 5 hours. The greens were also punched so putting was hard but I can’t be too mad about that. The only real issue was the pace and being out that long causing you to lose steam
SLOW: 3 hours for 9 holes
The cost is too high for this course. Go elsewhere unless you’re in DC and can pop out for a quick round. It was not that today.
Great vibes, tremendous potential
Getting to play East Potomac as part of the National Links Trust Symposium on Municipal Golf was a treat. I'm sure that for locals, playing golf practically in the shadow of the Washington Monument, less than two miles away, feels somewhat normal. But as an out-of-towner, it gave me goosebumps to get to swing a club and chase a ball so close to the institutions of our great democracy.
The ambiance is so overwhelming that the nuts-and-bolts golf experience at East Potomac seems secondary. But thanks to the National Links Trust's stewardship, it is rapidly improving, and if the NLT's big plans for course restoration (Tom Doak restoring Walter Travis' original, reversible design) come to fruition, the course will be a bona fide national treasure. For now, it shows its age and decades of mostly benign neglect, but the greens are among the best I've putted all year, public or resort or private golf course, and they have enough interesting shaping and movement to keep you on your toes.
When you hang out at "East Po," you get to play the game you love in a unique setting, among a diverse and energetic crowd of fellow golf lovers. That's a value at almost any price, but for $38 to walk, it is hard to imagine many golf experiences in the country where that money feels better spent. If you love your country, you should adore this place.
Will play again
Visiting from out of town and thought the coursewas s great value. Not difficult and well managed. Will play again when the rain passes
