Trying out the DC courses
Staff was amazing. Great group of guys.
I feel like it’s a $25 course, at best.
Most greens were “ok”. Fairways were “fair” at best and the tee boxes were horrible.
For me it’s a one and done.
If DC put a little bit of money into the course it could be an amazing little gem of a course.
Good cousre
Layout of the course was good greens and fairways were in good shape tee box's as well good course. will be back for another great round.
Good for a first time golfer
Not the greatest course. Lots of construction. Greens weren’t mowed. No yard markers.
Yes the course needs work but I like it
It is hard to play and you should only use low-cost balls. If the balls go off the fairway it is in gold heaven. The park and wildlife are incredible. The hills are challenging. You will get a good workout. I play in the morning and I can take my time. I don't look for balls. The back nine should be finished soon I am told. Join me for some golf fun in the DC.
Shameful
It really is a shame that a golf course in the Nations Capital is in such poor shape. The tee box on hole six is hazardous because of the metal rods sticking out. I hope whatever renovations being made happen soon.
STARTER???
STARTER? Get off your REAR. You do not need to drive your cart 3 feet to get the cart keys and then back to the carts. Try to multi-task and learn customer service. Great course to stretch your back and your legs. Do not expect much from the course or the STARTER/RANGER. The rest of the staff are hardworking and very pleasant.
Please fix this course
It is an improvement from before but that is not saying much. Terrible conditions, minimal improvements thus far. You can get a significantly better course by venturing a little bit further into MD or VA. I am hoping the new owners will actually follow through.
Awful in every way
Rude employees, rock filled bunkers, clover instead of grass (constant lost balls that should be in play), packed out tee times every five minutes or so. Clown course
Quiet course in the middle of the city . . . Could use some updates to the facilities
If you are looking for an affordable 18 holes of golf with some challenging holes, this is a great course. The front nine is wide open with long fairways. The back nine provides a different challenge with narrow fairways bounded by the woods. It's beautiful year round, but especially in the fall when the leaves are changing (beware the fact that the leaves will be all over the greens . . . see photo). For the most part, its far quieter than the other public courses in DC, with an older demographic. The facilities could use some updates - the pro shop is rather disappointing, they don't have a full concession stand, and the bathrooms could use some work. It is, however, an awesome mid-century building, so with some TLC it could be an outstanding facility. Also- it's literally just off all of the 16th street routes, so for those without a car, or who don't want to drive inside the city, it's quite accessible by public transportation.
Summer Heat and Bad Irrigation
I had been warned about the conditions at Rock Creek Park Golf Course before I played, but living in the nation's capitol at the time, I felt compelled to play it at least once. Unfortunately for me, the course was in terrible shape. The greens, fairways and tee boxes were scorched by the summer heat leaving everything a straw brown/golden color even in late September while the rough was still lush and green.
The course itself had some fun challenges as it dips in and out of Rock Creek Park, but those challenges didn't make up for the course conditions. I've heard that since Rock Creek Park Golf Course is on federal lands, there are restrictions in place regarding how much the course can be altered. Suffice it to say that it is not properly irrigated and after a summer of extreme heat, the course is in pretty bad shape.
I will probably play again, and on the recommendation of friends, will try to play in the spring when the ground is in much better condition.
