Bethel
Fairways was more weeds than grass, the greens were more like fairways, Tee blocks need more than TLC. My rating is to pass this course.
Bethal Island
This golf course needs some care. The last time I played here which was a year ago things looked better.
Needs lots of watering and new greens.
This course has been around for a long time. Often described as a cow pasture. It needs lots of water and also needs to have the greens done over. The reason it is so cheap to play is its condition. A good place for golfers just starting out and seniors.
If you like having the course to yourself, this is the place to be.
Although, the course is old and not kept up too well. The staff is very friendly, and let me golf an hour before my tee time without having to join anyone. I had the course to myself, and did not have to rush. The course is not the greatest, but for ten bucks, who can complain.
Poor Condition
The only reason it was challenging is that it was in such poor condition. Greens were very slow and bumpy, Bunkers were not taken care of. Several years ago it was a fair course. I will not play it again unless it gets a little better.
Horrible Course
Do not play at this course!!! The ground is very very dry and hard, and infested with fleas and mosquitos. My wife and I played here and could not finish the course. Our legs look like a connect the dots puzzle from all of the bites. 5 days later we are still itching. Save your money!!!! I will never play this course again. I was dooped by the pics on thier website.
GARBAGE! Not worth the $6 Hot Deal Tee Time!
I booked this course for one reason...$6 tee time. After telling my buddy about it we came to the conclusion of no matter how bad the course it's gotta be worth $6...we were wrong!
When we arrived we went into the dilapidated club house to register and get the cart assigned to us. While I understand it doesn't make or break your round of golf the carts were in terrible condition(ripped seats, damage to the body, chipping paint) . Once we reached the first tee we realized that the entire course is completely overgrown and dead. We teed off and away we went. It is difficult to find your ball even when you hit the fairway due to the overgrowth. When we reached the green we couldn't help but to laugh, the green had weeds growing out of it and was rough to say the least.
As we began to putt at the first green we realized that we were being swarmed by mosquito's. We decided to pick up our balls and move on hoping to outrun the mosquito's...we failed. After teeing off at the second tee and playing down to the green while being pursued by mosquito's the entire time we finally decided enough is enough and called it quits.
We learned a valuable lesson today...you get what you pay for. This course is in shambles and the mosquito infestation makes it unbearable. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money, there are 4 other really nice courses within 5 miles of Bethel Island...play any one of those instead.
Bethel Island
The course has been left in very poor shape, akin to a cow pasture. And this was before a men's club tournament.
great for 1st timers
terrible greens and sand traps the entire course needs lots of work. AT 4.30 PM THEY BEGIN TO PULL ALL THE FLAGS AND CARTS MUST BE IN BY 7.00 SO NO FLAGS ON THE COURSE AFTER 4.30 BEST TO PLAY EARLY
I Have played Behel Island a lot, they can do better.
At one point Bethel was in excellent condition. Honestly, I did not think it could look so good. Right now the course is simply being ignored. The only other reason it is looking so bad is the fact that I think they only have three people as greens keepers. I mean the bunkers are unattended to and surrounded by fox tails. However! At the end of the day you get what you pay for. For $9, $7, and sometimes $5 it is a bargain. Cannot blame conditions for pulls or hooks so I play there to work on my game. It is cheaper than a bucket of balls and you get a better gauge on your game on the course rather than on the range.
Course needs work!
Played here in the morning; course needs a lot of attention. Negatives:
Bunkers- probably the worst I've ever seen, really unplayable
Green- very long/thick grass, takes a long time to get used to the speeds, don't be short and pound every putt. Very hard to get a good roll
Rough- very long because they really don't mow it. Takes a long time to find balls, lost a bunch of balls that were just off the fairway. Very frustrating!!
Positives:
Pace of play- played 2 rounds (36 holes) in just under 8 hours. Barely waited for any shots.
Value for money- can get a good deal on GolfNow.com, paid only $12
Driving Range- grass range. Not the best range I've ever seen but I really like hitting off grass in the mornings to warm-up. Some of the best courses in the area don't even have grass driving ranges
Staff/Local Players- everyone is very friendly and makes you feel welcome.
This course is really hard to review. It's obviously NOT going for the country club' feel so I wouldn't ever compare it with Wente or Callipe. It is what it is.
If you don't want to spend a ton of money or if you're a beginner and just want to get out there and have some fun I would definitely recommend the course.
It's worth it to go out there and hit some shots but if you're looking to shoot a low score or play a challenging course (not because of conditions) I wouldn't recommend this course. I still give it three stars because it still has a lot to offer the average golfer.
bad greens
nice place to have fun, laid back, no crowds, funnnnnnnnn
Large fairways makes this a good beginner's course.
Given the lack of winter rain, this course has a lot of brown fairways and greens. The bunkers are like concrete holes surrounded by foxtail weeds. The greens aren't very smooth so it's difficult to putt a straight line.
Grass monsters
This course is not very well maintained so if you miss the fairway, you will spend time finding your ball due to the tall grass surrounding the fairways and the greens. If you manage to hit the fairway, then be prepared to hit a clean 2nd or 3rd shot as the fairways have a hard surface. There are some very long par 5s which makes it challenging.
Wait for a hot deal on golfnow.com to make it worthwhile. It does get pretty windy out here.
great layout the course needs allot work done one of the worst course conditions i have ever played from tee to green
from tee to green worst course conditions i have ever played
lost a ton of balls
lost a ton of balls. Need to cut the grass better.
Bethel needs work, won't play again until it done.
First of all I have played this course many times and have never seen the course in worse condition. The fairways are green and wide which is a good thing but the ruff is not playable, it is at least four inches tall or longer. I have never seen the ruff this tall.
The bunkers are the worst I have seen or played on. There is not enough sand in the bunkers; it is all hardpan and dirt and all you do is blade the ball out. The bunkers also contain grass growing in them. Some of the greens were somewhat puttable and others looked like your backyard that hadn't been mowed in weeks.
My friend that I played with thought the golf course was getting ready to close; it was so bad. It really needs work!! It is my hope that this course be taken better care of.
windy conditions prevailed
had a good time, an extra layer of clothing was needed due to constant steady wind. dry conditions in fairways and on greens.
This course is a links style course. •A links course is built along a major body of water
If your looking for a Monterey quality course then go to Monterey, but if you want to play a rough and tough course at a great price play here. This course has some great open fairways that will test your driving ability and some not so open.
Beats a bucket of range balls for the price good course to tKe a first timer to or your kids
Course is mostly in bad shape greens are all different speeds slow fast normail bunkers are hard / not groomed and a lot of dead grass fairways. This course has seen better days
