Great Course
This is great course to play and is very reasonably priced in comparison to other courses we have played. Staff were helpful, friendly and went out of their way to help. Just enough challenge to make you want to come back and improve your score for the next round.
Great Course
There's just nothing wrong with Sterling Grove. Mid afternoon, we played in 3 hours and 50 minutes. And this is not a particularly easy golf course. You will not have a straight putt, ever! Wonderfully fast and true greens. Perfect conditions.
Get out and play this course before it goes private.
Awesome course
This is a must play if you visit the valley. The course and all the amenities are first class. The course is fair and in outstanding shape but watch out for the greens as they are extremely undulating and you will be at the mercy of the pin positions.
great course
very nice course, wide open fairways so you have a fighting chance, however they make up for the challenge with the greens. very hilly and challenging. if you don't get it close could have a few 3 putts for sure. lots of sand traps as well. but had great time
Nice track
Nice, well laid out course and in great shape. Know the pin locations cause the greens can make for a long day. Facilities are top notch. Glad I played here.
Easy track, great condition
Really cool facility in a new country club. There's locker rooms here for members and a mini golf course laid out on a big practice green. Grass range before the round. 4 provided bottles of water. Carts had GPS but they went cheap and got the small screens.
Fairways were cut very short. Drives took large bounces and ran out far. The only complaint I would have is that grass was patchy in some parts, but there was so much rough throughout the course that I would much rather have instead. Tee boxes were level and cut very short. Bunkers had good sand in them. Greens were good speed, a bit slow but not too bad.
No real strategy, just bomb the ball off the tee and hit a good approach. Don't remember ever having to hit fairway wood instead of driver. Don't remember hitting any long irons on this course. Drive and wedge. Some of the greens have big slopes. Length is a bigger asset here than accuracy.
Nothing too memorable in terms of holes, Hole #6 was a drivable par 4 with a big risk of going in the water to the right of the green. Hole #13 has water in the front and right of the green, with everything to the left sloping off. 17 was a long Par 3 at 230+ from the blues. Was cool playing 18 into the clubhouse over the water.
Pace of play was excellent, finished in 4 hours. 10 minute tee time intervals and reasonable prices. Food service was a let down - drink cart had nothing but candy/chips, and there was nothing at the turn.
Great Course
The course is in great condition, the greens are challenging but in great condition. The course surroundings need to mature to make this a even better experience, feels like your golfing in a building site at times but didn't stop us have a great day.
Just Off Overseed
The course was one of the earliest to overseed for the winter. This was about the first week since its return to playing rounds. There were cart path only restrictions so a lot of walking and guessing yardages. The course has grown in very well. Just a few soggy spots that you could probably lift, clean and place from. Only a hitting net, and putting and chipping area for warm up
Greens Like Teflon
Course is immaculate. Great place to play golf. Greens were totally unreceptive as they had been cut short in preparation for overseed. I had at least 4 very good approach shots skip or roll from the front fringe grass out the back of the green. That will resolve once overseed is done.
Course Review
The course was meticulously awesome. The amenities were wonderful and the staff were very professional. The only issue I had was with the speed of the greens. I fully intend to play again when I'm in Arizona.
Nice layout and challenging with all the traps
After a few more years of maturity, the course will be top notch. Green are challenging and some pin placement would be beyond difficult with size and undulations.
Great
Nicholas designed. Hidden obstacles, but the fairways, greens and practice areas are top notch. Nice nice nice!!
Roller coaster greens
I played this course for the first time Sunday, having never heard of it. I was excited to play a new course and I always check out reviews on the course beforehand. After seeing all the comments relating to the greens here, I thought; it can’t be that bad. Well, when you get there, you definitely find out differently. When the starter tells you that unless you’re pin high on every hole, expect to three putt EVERY hole; is not a good thing. The amount of undulations is ridiculous. I titled my review “roller coaster greens”, cause these greens look exactly like that. It’s a shame because the fairways and rest of the course are one of the best I’ve played in AZ and I’ve played many. The greens are so crazy, that I don’t know that I’d come back.
First time playing this course. Beautiful facilities, driving range (balls included) , putting course, chipping etc. staff was wonderful. Course conditions were great, large flat tee boxes, great fairways but greens were just aerated earlier this week. Putting is overrated anyways!
Will be back to play before prices go back up!
Great course. Worth the drive.
IMO - This course is the perfect layout to satisfy everyone. Great card with ratings for 5 tees + combos so everyone can find an appropriate set to play from. Excellent big flat tee-boxes, generous green well manicured fairways invite you to let the driver go just about any shape you like to hit, but then dramatic undulation and bunkering to stress the approches to lightning fast greens with ig ridges so it seems like hitting the green anywhere but right next to the pin, you are not going to have an easy 2-putt par. If you struggle with the putter, these greens will kill you. If your short game is tight you are going to win the money. Lots of different varying hole designs, no two alike, all fun. A couple fun Drivable 4s, some lengthy par threes, beautiful landscaping in the areas around the club house. I had a fantastic time and I'd play this course every month if it was a little closer to my house. I golf everywhere in the valley and this is instantly in my top 5.
What a wonderful day, From the bag drop to loading backup first class service. Jim M. the starter was so friendly and informative, gave great advice on greens and tee box selection. The greens were fast and some of the toughest in the valley. Pin placement being the key factor. The pace was great 3:15round , over all a must play.
I am a tournament golfer, planning on playing collegiately. As you say "Shame", in my opinion it is a shame that we have ignorant people such as yourselves commenting on things you have no idea nor context on. These greens are amazing- I played here in a tournament and they rolled extremely true. A good course is one that you will not see everyday and unfortunately the golfers who just come out for fun frankly in my opinion should not comment. These greens will not only improve and better your short game but will provide a fun challenge as they are fair. The fact that you are upset that you have to "Hit it pin high" on every hole is a reality all good golfers must face, which obviously you haven't yet. Sterling should really limit who they let play here... so we don't have uneducated or inexperienced golfers like yourself playing the course.
