Conditions
The par 3's were well maintained as were most of the greens too. The fairways, cart paths, and surrounding areas were awful. If these were maintained well it would be a course I would visit again. I was on vacation here in Colorado.
Needs Work
Course looked like fairways haven't been mowed in over a year. Obvious drainage issues all over the place and in several fairways. Overall course seemed in pretty bad shape to me.
Needs to dry out.
Too much water. Boggy. Fairways uneven. Greens good but inconsistent. A lot of thatch leftover in the rough.
Nice area, terrible conditions and pace
I have played here before and it is a difficult course so slower play is expected. Instead of foursomes, staff sent out all twosomes. That would have been ok but the group in front was irresponsibly slow and there was not a single Marshall to speed them up. They held up 7 groups behind them and we ended up skipping a hole to get ahead after 5 groups quit at the turn. Also, the fairways were not cut. There were tons of little tufts of tall grass everywhere so even a decent shot in the fairway was a disaster. Disappointing. Luckily it was o my $30 to play. More than that and it would have been a rip off.
Course Management?
Fairways, where are they? The fairways have clumps of grass and mud boggs on most holes. Play lift clean and place. The mower needs new blades and bad drainage throughout the course couldn't handle the spring rain. Many tee boxes are not level and in very bad condition. Pin placement is inconsistent, front, front, front, back, middle, back, front, you get the idea. Mowing is lacking all over the course not only in the fairways but second cut as well. The cart paths are horrible in need of major work. The greens are excellent excluding the ball divots left by lazy golfers who don't take the moment to repair (remember golf etiquette) them.
If management gave the course staff, which are professional, friendly and extremely capable, the leadership, and tools necessary this could be one of the best tracks on the front range. There are many things wrong at this course and top management must accept the blame.
Maybe a bad time for them
The fairways hadn't been mowed in forever. You should let customers know this.
Nice Course but Tight
This is a great Press Maxwell course. It is tight with lots of trees and OB, but it currently is in great shape. The on;y other comment I have is that the fairways all had above average grass length.
Mow the fairways!!!
The grass in most fairways is more like LONG rough grass. So it is a partial golf course, one without almost any fairways. There were only a few fairways that were mowed but even those were only 1/2 mowed making for very small landing zones. The pace of play was horrendous - 3 hours front and 2 hours 40 minutes back. Combined with the course conditions it made for a very unpleasant round for the foursome and they won't have to worry about getting another review any time soon from this golfer.
Maintenance needed
This course could be great, but it is not. Unmowed fairways, poorly kept greens and dense rough. The setting is great in the pine trees, but my partner and I kept saying to each other how much nicer this course would be if ANY effort was put into the grounds. Also, the beer cart was out of certain beers at 11:30... on Father's Day. =( Seemed like they should have had more to choose from.
Dinner at the clubhouse was good, and the staff was friendly.
Disgrace
IIt is hard to believe these folks have the nerve to charge 50$ to "golf" at this course. Management should shut the course down to mow and return it to playable conditions. The grass is 6" deep in spots in the fairway! All other courses in the surrounding area who have experienced the same amount of rain have great conditions. There is NO excuse!
Horrible Conditions
I played this course a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. However, this time around the course is in horrible conditions. Playing from the fairways is almost like playing from the rough. When I mentioned this on the turn, I was told that the mower was broke and they haven't mowed the grass is a while. This came from the same pro shop girl who said the course was in great shape when asked upon checking in. You couldn't pay me to play this course again. The staff also needs to work on their customer service skills.
The highlight of the day was the couple we were paired up with.
great course for the price via golfnow
Played this course for the frist time on a great deal from golfnow app. While course was nicely maintained there was NO water on the course at any hole to refill water bottle on a 90 degree day and to make things worse there was no cart person at all. Will probably play again but will ask to make sure cart person is working.
A mountain course in town
Reminds me of Evergreen. Lots of narrow tree lined fairways. Fairly challenging. Requires good golf course management. Slow greens like JFK. Small bunkers. Lots of (cut) dead grass in the fairways. Probably due to the recent rains. Drove past the white stakes and got berated by a homeowner for driving in her "yard". Great friendly staff. Awesome lemonade stand on the back nine.
What Happened?
I had always heard good things about Monument Hill Country Club so when my son and I had the opportunity to play the course, we went to check it out.
What a waste of time, effort and money!
It started with the person behind the counter in the Pro Shop. I didn't know that anyone could be as rude as he was.
After we hit the course, that's where we really saw how terrible everything was. The course was in terrible shape. There was standing, stinking water on the cart paths, which after we started, we were told it was "Cart Path Only" and if we didn't adhere to the policy, we would have our cart taken away. Funny thing was, we saw numerous people not following this rule. We even saw the Ranger look right at them and not say a word.
Was probably the worst time I've ever had playing golf. No wonder they've opened up to public play, none of the members want to play anymore!
Mosquito Swamp
Much of this course is water and mud. Even the cart paths are largely washed out. I cannot understand how the management can charge full green fees when the course is in such bad shape.
I have played on many poor courses, but this one makes the top of the list. There is so much that needs to be fixed that the course should at least close the front nine and make serious repairs.
Monument Hill has gone down hill in a hurry.
Wish I had taken pictures to show how bad the course is.
Monument Hill: The Good and The Bad
I live in Castle Rock and really want to start exploring some of the courses south of me. I've decided to rate hunt for the Hot Deals and the first one I landed on Monument Hill Country Club. Payed $28 plus GolfNow fees. There is so much to like about this course and so much that can be improved. I can easily see how the more upscale golfer may look down on this place. The bad: The driving range was horrible. Everything down range was dead and there were two targets not marked with distances. The balls were the worst I've ever seen. Some were so old they didn't have dimples, just a smooth ball (hmmm). The carts are gas and they're loud and smelly. The paths are not paved and you feel like you're offroading at times. There was no beverage cart service on the course and there is a snack shack at the turn, ok, not bad. I'll take it. My last "bad" thing was the condition of the fairways. The course was saturated with water and you could tell that there are a lot of areas the crew can't go over right now because its so wet. 3 out of my first 4 holes I was in the middle of the fairway off the tee and the lie was unplayable. 3 inches of grass, plugged and sopping wet. I played lift, clean, move and place. Ha. It started to irritate me but it improved as the round went on. The Good: The girls in the pro shop and snack shop were very friendly. No complaints about the staff. The course is absolutely gorgeous. The views of the Black Forest and Pikes Peak, unbeatable. I really liked the layout of some of the holes too. The greens were in fantastic condition and were much faster than my home course (Red Hawk Ridge). Where the course was dry, it was in really good shape. I want to come back in July or August and hope the whole course is in that condition. The whole course is very challenging and really requires you to know where to hit it. iplayed with a member and he really helped me out with the doglegs and blind shots (almost all tee shots you're leaving driver in the bag. 6700 from the tips, but you better hit the fairway every time). You feel like you're playing mountain golf with all the elevation changes and pine trees (love the smell of pine trees). Overall, I'm giving it a 4 star. I could completely see how somebody may give it less for the ammenities, but I had too much fun playing here. I will be back, hopefully with dryer weather.
not in good condition
I sometimes play this course because it's one of the cheapest around but I think I am done with it for this season. The rain has really taken its toll on the course, and the low-lying areas are in pathetic shape, particularly the areas just in front of the tee box. Women and senior players should probably just forget about playing here. You will have no roll out on tee shots and will probably have to wade through the mud to get to the forward tees. I walked 18 and my legs were covered with mud and mosquito bites at the end of the day. For the amount of rain we've had, the fairways should be more lush and consistent than they are. It seems like the grass is currently more uneven and sparse than other courses in the area. Some of the tee boxes have been badly overused and it is a chore just to find a patch of grass to hit from. On the bright side, there is usually not much traffic on the course during the week. I was able to play by myself without having to wait on groups in front of me. Also, the price beats almost any course in the area. Staff is very friendly; I haven't tried any food/drinks there.
Get the Country Club life for a day!
I was pleased to find a very inexspensive tee time at this course. I assumed it would be in great condition and it was. Save a couple and I mean 2 or 3 fairways that were still a little mucky it was outstanding. Those weren't a problem, just lift, clean and place. Staff was nice and the views were magnificent. Get a chance to play there, don't miss it. Even the drive is beautiful.
Don't Go
This place is a swamp and rough is 6-10 inches high.
Not worth playing at any price. I realize there has been a lot of rain but this place is ridicules. There are areas they cannot mow but a lot of areas they could, especially with 100 - 150 around the greens. They just don't do it. Save your time and play somewhere else.
Just OK
I was looking for a course with trees and that's about the best thing I can say about the experience. Fairways were ok, greens were bumpy for this time of year but that was alright but they were small and raised and the ball would not sit. Guess they were redoing the signs for each hole because there were none there. Overall the staff was friendly but this course is a $25.00 experience
