Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course from Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is the only 18-hole course at the facility. Designed by Frank Hummel, the course opened in 1959 and used to include the 9 holes of the Blue Course as the front nine. Currently however, both the Gold and the Blue are separate courses. The landscape of the Gold is hilly and seven ponds create a beautiful atmosphere while also adding challenging water hazards to eleven holes. Although the entire course is scenic, the 12th hole is considered to have the most picturesque views. Its elevated tee offers gorgeous vistas of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is known not only for its gorgeous scenery, it has also received acclaim from golf publications such as Golf Digest.

Setting tee times
Trying to set a morning tee times seven day in advance is impossible! I got online at 11:59 PM and couldn’t get a teatime till 1230 as soon as the portal opened up seven days in advance? This is absolutely ridiculous and not sure I will play Highlands Hills next year if this continues!!
Great course for the price
It needs a little attention however it's a great track. The greens are dented like no other but for less than 75$ it's a deal
Great Layout … but that’s about it
The course has many fun holes… but the course is in terrible shape. Dead grass everywhere, and last two times I played it was 2:45 nines. They need rangers to speed it up.
Will say the facility is very nice. Great restaurant and practice facility
Golf Cart Sharing
Had to share cart with a stranger. During the round we came across a group of four people with three carts and only two of them were playing golf! I asked if they paid extra for the carts and they said no! I found that very disgusting! I'm very upset about this cart situation and why the rules do not apply to everyone! I will not be playing golf here because I used to get my own cart when playing as a single.
Nice change
I normally play my home course in Arvada, CO, Hyland is about 20 minutes from my house. It was a good change up, different look and feel. Playing from the Blue tees presented a good challenge and the rough was long which added to that. Only concern was the amount of dry spots and dead area around the course. With the wet spring I was surprised that the conditions of the course were not better, and like I said the rough was a little long and mowing left an excess amount of grass clumps in the rough which lead to slow play looking for balls and even some some balls.
Very enjoyable
This course has a great staff, and an effort has been made to keep it in good shape. Due to the terrain, I can see where this is a bit of a challenge.
Despite being quite busy the staff is quite friendly and helpful.
Municipal, you gotta be kidding!!!
Excellent course with nice amenities, especially for a municipal track. The layout had some easy holes that were parkland style, adjacent fairways but enough water and island type greens, tee boxes to make the course particularly interesting. Greens were pure with some trick undulation, especially close to the holes. Outstanding pro shop and clubhouse. Certainly would recommend.
Challenging layout
Wonderful course with some holes that will challenge all your skills.. It was a great day.
Challenging
The Gold Course is challenging with some fairly long par 4s, thick rough and tricky greens. There was sufficient water around the course for the warm day I played although two containers were empty. Water buckets to wet towels would be a nice touch.
Pace of playing
5 plus hours to play 18 holes is totally unacceptable! Group in front of us, took 10/15 to putt. Never saw a marshal keeping track of time...
A fall from grace
We play Hyland hills several times a summer and it’s always a favorite. On this overcast and cool day I would have expected folks to be moving at a decent pace. However our round was well over 5 hours without a single ranger to be seen. We saw the beverage car only once in 5 hours as well. With all the rain this summer the course was in pretty nice shape other than the greens. They were very pitted out. Perhaps there was a tournament the week before that beat them up but this we the lowlight of the day. We’ll still be back, as it’s a great track.
Yikes
6 hour round without ever seeing a Marshall to speed up the pace (despite calling several times) and.not once seeing a beverage cart despite phone calls requesting one. Nice course but LNP adults in the room.
Pace Problems
I like this course, the holes are challenging, but not overly difficult. The place is usually in pretty good condition and it’s very affordable. But time and time again at this course I have run into a pace of play issue. Yesterday was the first time that I have decided to cut a round short. I think this course could really benefit from having tee times be more spaced out and have a marshal that patrols the holes to help move slower groups along. Yesterday the group in front of us had a tough time getting even 100 yards off the tee box, and appeared unconcerned that they had multiple groups nipping at their heels. I get that these things happen at public courses, but it really does ruin a round when you spend almost a half hour on multiple holes and every shot feels rushed because you don’t want to be the guy everyone is waiting on when the course is running slow. Sorry for the long review but I play lots of courses in the area and none of them get this slow even at their worst
Good lay out
Playing on a week day Wednesday, the slow play
Is crazy Five hours to play the Gold . Yes the rough was way too high . It Definitely slowed play down trying to find balls, and hitting out of it
With all the rain I’m sure maintenance is having a hard time keeping up cutting the grass.
It would be nice to have a Marshall out there, keeping the pace of play.
