Windham Golf Course
About
Windham Golf Course is tucked away in Connecticut's northeast corner, enjoying a classic New England setting. Formerly known as Willimantic C.C. and The University Club of Connecticut, the original nine holes opened in 1922 and the championship golf course that exists now was completed in the 1960s. Like many of the golf courses built during that time, The Windham Golf Course's greens are smaller than on modern golf courses and they are subtly contoured. The traditional layout also features narrow fairways lined with mature oak trees and there are three that are bordered by natural spring ponds. Bunkers are strategically placed on 15 holes. The front nine provides some scoring opportunities, which you'll need before facing the tougher back nine.

1st Hole, 393, par-4. Great opener that starts from a high tee, then crosses a rolling fairway to its green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

The twelfth. A short par-4 where you’ll cross this serene pond on the pitch. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

Fourteen from the side. Par-3, 170. The elevated, double-bunkered green means a challenge from the tee--and another if you miss it in regulation. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

Windham Club
New owners have put money into the course and it shows. New tee boxes on some holes..They've extended 11 and 17...Personally, 17 needs more seasoning and should have waited opening it till' spring. But it will be a challenging par 5...Still work to do, but course headed in the right direction.
Windham of change
Called Tom at Pro shop BEFORE I booked on GolfNow and he said the new course changes were updated on GPS devices...SADLY that was NOT the case. As a 20 HDCP who trying to improve this was an issue. I have a bushnell watch and my buddy has a Garmin....NEITHER were 100%...I would say after hole 3 they were all off. I still shot an 89 with 6 pars.
The new layoff is promising. Still a lot of ground under repair...I will wait until spring to play here again. $43 for 18 holes + cart was slightly more than what I would call a bargain, but not bad. Figuring out where the next hole was with the paper signs was also a challenge. I would give it time....I also said that after I played here in May.

Great staff
Lot of work has been done on the course. New layout. Cleared many trees from the course.
Good Course - quick easy round
I grew up playing this course and always enjoy it. It's nice to see someone paying attention to it again.
The pace of play was quick, the cource is in decent condition. The level of difficulty is appropriate for most amateurs.
good value
arrived a little early, paired with a couple of others, cart guy sent us off the back nine- turned out to be a blessing. Played the back nine in less than 2 hours, played the front as a single in just over an hour. Course is under construction in a few places ( the 17th is now a par 5, although no one mentioned that before we played, the new green is out of sight, around a corner), but the greens were fine. Lots of trees, the routing is a bit confusing, but there are signs. The value was good, an enjoyable afternoon. Will be interesting to see how it develops.
A mature and enjoyable course
Course does not present unsurmountable challenges for the average golfer. Course is growing with continual improvements and upgrades. An enjoyable day of golf.
Def going back!
A lot of work has been done and is still being done! Course is great but on its way to be even better! We loved it!
It's getting there
I am a big fan of the course. I'm glad to see new owners and the work they are putting into the course. I used to play here all the time but not the past few years due to upkeep. This place has the potential to be great and it looks like the new owners are taking that step in the right direction. Can't wait to see the new changes once they are complete.
Windam Club
Got a good deal from GolfNow so the price was cheap enough to try this course which is under construction. Staff was much friendlier than last owners. Lots of work being done on course which I take as a good thing to improve it. Slow play due to an outing that was in front of us, along with a 3some of very senior citizens (which I can't complain about because it's nice to see them out and about but it was VERY slow following them). Greens were fine. Fairways still have a lot of work to bring them to decent shape. Too many dirt and dead spots but it will be interesting to see after the major construction is done. Overall a good deal for a $25-30 GolfNow fee. Would not play there for the full fee of $60+ though.
Lots of work underway
The new management of this club is putting in a lot of improvements and new course features. The 17th hole will play as a par 5 and from the looks of it might soon be their signature hole.
NEW conditions
Course is being reconstructed to new layout . Is about 80% but playable and can enjoy . Is a rough ride in a cart ( Not smooth) Greens are very good. Course will have potential when completed .
course going in the right direction
This is a good course that had been let go but now appears to be going in the right direction
They let people start on #10
I play this course because it is conveniently close to my home. They are doing a lot of work to spruce it up but thee is a LOT of ground under repair. That's OK because I knowingly accepted that up front. Pace of play was great on the front nine. Arrived at #10 in 1 hr 50 mins only to find that they were letting people start on #10 so we had to wait for the group that cut in front of us. This is the second time I have experienced this at Windham and I find it unacceptable.
Avoid this course
they are trying to renovate the course so there are temp tee boxes the condition of the fairways are terrible from equipment running over them. If I knew it was in this condition I wouldn't have played there. The kicker is that they are asking full price. $55.00 to play 18 holes. That's crazy for the condition it's in.
GREAT VALUE,UNDER MAJOR OVERHAUL
TEE TO GREEN THE COURSE IS OK AND PLAYABLE,.SEEMS EVERY HOLE THERE IS SOME WORK BEING DONE OFF FAIRWAY,BEHIND TEES AND GREEN..ABSENCSE OF YARDAGE MARKERS, TEE BOX AND TEE SIGNS CONFUSING,17TH HOLE TEES OFF OVER ROAD...WATCH FOR CARS YOU WILL TAKE OUT THE GLASS.WITH ALL THIS BEING SAID ITS GOOD TO SEE ALL THE WORK BEING DONE .STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING.THE COURSE IS VERY PLAYABLE BUT CONSTRUCTION EVERY WHERE EXCEPT TEE TO GREEN..GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY,GREAT DECK ,RESTAURANT,BAR IT WILL BE BACK TO A GREAT COURSE BY END OF YEAR,
Fun woodland course with local feel.
Played here en route to Foxwoods casino. Lucked out with some 50 degree weather in late Dec. The course was packed with regulars around 10am, I was able to tee off around 11:30. The course is doing loads of construction both on the grounds as well as to the men's locker room. It's a quirky, short course but offers loads of different looks and hole types. The 16th hole (downhill 200 yd par 3) felt kind of squeezed in and some holes came into contact with the nearby roadway but otherwise nothing to complain about. Greens were actually fantastic for this late in the year. Would definitely return here again on my next casino trip. Rate is a bit high at $50 to ride (especially in off season) but the course was a great value at $30 hot deal.
Disappointing
When this course was taken over by new management I had high hopes. Unfortunately the course isn't much better than it was last year. Also the staff was uninformed. I'll think twice about playing here again.
Unique layout
Had a stellar day with my 21 year old son! I kind of fell in love with this course in spite of all the construction going on there. It is under new ownership and they are pouring a ton of money into the course and wisely, I would say. The course is over 90 years old and has the maturity of a course its age with mature trees and course architecture. It's a very forgiving course for the low to mid handicapper, (I shot a 83 first time out), and I found the greens to be very, very true even though aerated in the past 3-4 weeks. Staff is very friendly and the Thai chicken wings are to die for. I can't wait to go back with my son who is at UCONN. When the new owner is through spending what is obviously a ton of dough, this little course is going to be a unique little gem!
bumpy greens
I like (and need) the nice wide fairways which were in excellent condition.the only bad part was that some of the greens were bumpy, other than that I enjoyed playing the course and the bumpy greens are the the only reason at this time that I would not recommend the course.
