Marquette Park
A nice nine-hole course in the city. My favorite part is hitting across the lagoon on hole #8.
Decent country track
If your looking for a Chicago county course with a bit more distance, then this is a decent option. I played on a Saturday and the pace of play was 2.5 hours so don’t expect to fly through 9 but otherwise enjoyed the round.
Walked Sub 2-hr 9 holes without a crowd in front.
Sometimes can be slow. Today was beautiful and a wide open course. Aside from geese (and goose poop), the course is in solid shape.
Solid Chicago course
Very good course to play. Although many beginners here but we’re nice to let me play thru. Fun course would golf again
Hard to complain...
Played as a walk-on after work. $25 with a cart. Over 3200 yards for nine holes. Pulled driver on 6 of them. Course in good shape, especially the greens. Lots of geese but greens recently cleared of goose poop so not a factor. Course not overly difficult but long enough from the tips to require 3 wood on second shots from two of them and hybrid from two more. Best feature is the quiet and the utter lack of waiting. Played two afternoons and have had the course essentially to myself. I am a supporter of the concept of public facilities and the advantage of maintaining and providing a low cost inclusive opportunity for those who wish to develop and nurture the love of this game. This hits the mark on both points.
Typical for chicago
This course has a long history. Used to be an 18 hole course, but now only 9. Has a range, but is on other side of park and no yardage signs. Course it self is full of patchy, dried out grass all over fairway and on some holes, goose droppings are everywhere, I mean everywhere!. Sand bunkers are non-existent, basically just a dirt hole. Greens are just ok, depends when you go and if they have watered or aerated lately. Layout could be a nice 9 yard course, but maintenance is severely lacking, but probably no money in the budget. Used to go here when first moved to Chicago, but there are much better places for comparable price. No golf house, but can buy drinks at starting closet.
I got a kick out of the review that said Marquette Park used to be an 18 hole course... LOL, not in his or my lifetime. Maybe not since the 30's definitely not in the last 60 years.
