OK course
Played on a beautiful day in late October. To be expected the greens had been recently aerated and top dressed so they were pretty slow. A lot of leaves on the ground made it hard to find your ball. We were a twosome playing behind a threesome and we waited for just about every shot for the first 16 holes. Still it wasn't bad until the 17th when I couldn't find my tee shot in the leaves. After giving up looking, I dropped a ball and was ready to hit when a member of the staff stopped by us and asked what was the holdup? I told him I had trouble finding my ball in the leaves and he starts berating me out for taking so long. After waiting on nearly every shot for 16 holes he does that to me? I am not a slow player and it upset me the way he approached me.
Good course and great value
The course was in good shape and the price was outstanding. No complaints
Incredible value
We play here all the time when we get it on Tee-Offs. Best value we've found on here. Seems like we're the only ones who think so...give it a try.
Sad to see how it has deteriorated
I was a member of Turnberry in the 1980’s when it was one of the better clubs around. We actually hosted the Illinois Open in 1989. Fast forward to today and I could cry to see how it has gone downhill. The course was always challenged with respect to drainage but it was considerably worse than I remembered. And it appears that the superintendent decided to aerate the fairways after we had several days of rain. The result was basically mud fairways. Greens were very soft and slow.
Although the pace of play was good on the front nine, as we made the turn it appears that they let at least one if not two groups go out ahead of us. Today was the first time that I can recall quitting after nine holes.
The layout of the course is great, but I won’t go back. Too bad that my last memory of this once great course will be so tainted.
Pace of play was very slow. It should not have taken 4 hours 20 minutes for twosomes to play 18 holes. There was not a ranger on the course to get the only foursome that were playing from the red tees to move faster. They were hitting 7-8 shots per hole. Also as we turned the corner to the 10th hole and there were two groups of 4 that jumped in front of us because they were told that the high schools girls needed to practice on the front 9. The owner and the manager should be ashamed of himself for letting this happen and not telling anyone. No beverage cart on the course. :(
All was good except the beverage cart girl kept interrupt while hitting the ball off the tee, fairway and greens. She doesn't understand golf edicate. She needs to wait and turn off the motor.
Good times
My buddies and I always enjoy playing here. Late season so conditions were a little rough but it's very scenic and beautiful. Eat before you get there though as there's really no food options...
Nice course
The course was in very good condition. Other than the guy who checked me in I never saw another employee on or off the course. No starter or any course management which made for a very long round. This could be so much more if it was managed and run properly.
Not worth the aggravation
Course is in rough shape, cart had no working break, had to go in to request a score card. We were reprimanded for slowing down the pace, but players ahead of us were backed up. We teed off as soon as the fairway cleared! It’s a scheduling issue, not a patron issue. Basically, they make a player feel like a bother. It’s easy to see why they have openings on short notice.
I am sorry about the inconvenience caused to you. The ranger is just doing his job telling just about everyone to keep up with the pace. Nothing personal.
