Stonewolf Golf Club
About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

No Heads Up
They had their rates on their website and on golf now with open tee times but when i drove all the way from saint louis i arrived at the course only to be told they shouldn't have let me book the tee time and that the course was closed, was disappointed cause i booked an hour or two before the tee time and they didn't call to give me a heads up so i drove out there wasted my time and lost money on the reservation fee, have played here before great course great staff good rates just a bad experience this time will surely play here again tho place is awesome!
I really like this course.
This course has some really challenging holes but also some easy. It's a beautiful course.
I really like this course.
This course has some very challenging holes but there are some easy ones also. Beautiful area.
Difficult Course
This is a great course if you want a challenge. It requires a lot more than just a driver off the tee and has some very challenging approach shots. I gave a 4 on conditions mostly due to the time of year plus the course has some questionable sand and bare spots but overall really good. Had to skip the last two holes with 4 groups jammed up. One of them being a 6-some on the 18th. I'd play here more often if it wasn't so far away from me but need my game to be sharper to enjoy it.
Restaurant Needs More Options
Need more than Brats & Hotdogs! Some of us seniors can’t eat that stuff!
Nice course
Loved the greens. True. Fairways in good shape except a few bad spots that were marked. Looks like they’re working to fill in some old sand traps.
I’ll play here again.
Great course!
Course was in great condition! Had a great time playing here. Will definitely be coming back to play next time I’m in the area.
Thank you
One of the better courses in the Metro East
Wonderful conditions at one of the better courses in the STL Metro East. Stonewolf is right up there with Annbriar and Gateway in Illinois. After a lot of recent rain, it has been sunny and dry, so the course is in excellent shape and a pleasing green color. Big elevation drops make for quite a challenging setup.
The tee boxes and fairways were very nice. Most of the greens were in excellent shape but a couple of them were pretty spotty (No. 7 wasn’t great) but none of the holes were cut there so it didn’t impact putts. Taken as a whole, the green complexes were challenging and have big slopes on them. Many of the greens are set at odd angles to the fairway, so that makes hitting them even more difficult. The closing hole has a cool setting as the green sits in an amphitheater-like setting with hills all around.
One downer was that the course was pretty crowded. We didn’t have to wait a ton on every shot but there were many times we had a bit of a delay. All in all, a pretty difficult course that is in great shape right now. Go play it sooner rather than later!
Always A Great Play
The Area Has Had a Lot Of Rain ( Ida ) So The Course Was Wet. But still in good shape. Some greens where tough but worth the Money.
Stonewolf
Very nice course in great shape.
I would say if you're a high handicapper, you may not enjoy the back nine. A fair amount of blind shots and/or shots that require a carry. The course is pretty tight overall. But, the course is in excellent condition with a nice layout, so if you're a hacker like me just bring extra balls and enjoy the day. :) The course does have good signage on the shots that have carry, or blind shots, so that was helpful since I'd never played it before.
No matter your handicap, I recommend Stonewolf.
Disappointed in golfnow.com for not informing users that the back nine holes were closed. Would not have played there if I had known.
Great Course
Absolutely no complaints here. Challenging but fun, great conditions, if you get on for $30-40 I think the value is one of the best around. Top course in the STL Metro area in my opinion. Highly recommend playing here when you get a chance!
