Sugar Creek Golf Course

Minimal hazards to avoid, nice mix of distances on a compact course, great place to get your swing back in line.

A friend of mine and I played Sugar Creek on Labor Day. It was a hot one - 85-90 degrees during our round. The pace was relaxed and we weren't in any hurry. Waited a few minutes to tee off at a few holes and nobody was pushing us from behind. Course was in great condition and the greens were tough. Fun round!

I intended to play this 9-hole course by myself but was paired up with a man and his 16-year-old son. They were the perfect pairing for me as they too have recently gotten back into golfing and were fairly lax on both skill and etiquette (though they were both better than me). They play this course often so it was helpful to have their insight.

There are large sections of the first few holes that are roped off as "DO NOT ENTER" due to some environmental sensitivities and I did lose a couple balls there. The signs are nice enough to say that you can take a drop and are not penalized a stroke since they have blocked it off and are forbidden to retrieve your ball if you hit it in one of those sections. The man I was playing with said that, though he didn't exactly know what the course owners were doing, he suspected that they were increasing the size of the water hazards due to recent flooding.

The tees are pretty hacked up, the fairways are nice, and the greens are in very good shape. One bummer about this course is that there is no Par 5, only 4's and 3's. Their driving range is good and the practice putting green is very well kept. I was hoping to see a practice bunker or two near the practice putting green but no dice. Each person I met who worked there was very kind and helpful.

Overall this was a fun outing and I do intend on playing this course again. Seasoned golfers might not find this course too challenging but it was a great course for myself who is still very much in the novice stages of figuring out my game.

Was a super hot day. Ranger came to check on the golfers. He had water in his cart if we needed it.

Fun course to play, pace was slow, greens are very good for a public course

No par 5s and the longest par 4 is 330, so it essentially takes out the frequently seen 200 yard approach shot. Makes for a much easier round of golf! Very nice little course

Course is in bad shape and used to be a much better value for what you paid. Since every course in the world raised their prices, sugar creek was no different. However courses invested into something like renovating the course, upkeep, or new carts. Sugar creek…none of that. Course is in bad shape and the drainage system doesn’t even exist. Roughs are so bad and greens and tee boxes are not in best condition. You want to play here, play If it is on a hot deal, otherwise go somewhere you can get a better bang for your buck. Oh and the starter? Not the friendliest and nicest to deal with.

course was great, clubhouse manager was awesome. however we did not finish the 9 holes because of the weather in effect, how do I get credits back to my account?

Really like the recent improvements to the wetlands. Beautiful!
