Give it a year

They are re seeding the fairways - approach and greens are in great shape. The fairways will be ready in 2015 for play - most of their carts have torn seat cushions but run well, very friendly staff - made me feel welcomed - I will return next year

Nice layout, good greens, fairways just reseeded!!

Fairways just reseeded & very thin so definitely would have selected another place to play if we'd have known ahead of time. Rest of course was good, nice greens, and will look to return when the new fairways are established. Until then there are lots of other good deals on Golf Now that will probably provide a more satisfying round if you're looking for new places to try out.

Great course that is improving

This course has a great layout and went through a tough winter with the fairways. They have reseeded the fairways and they are coming in very nicely. The greens are in excellent shape and when the new fairway grass is all the way filled in the course will be one of the best courses you can play for the money in southern indiana. The pro shop staff was excellent and attentive to the needs of all golfers.

Best Golf Deal Money Can Buy

If you are a true golfer, you can't go wrong at the Jeff Elks. May not have all the bells and whistles, but the course is a fantastic deal for the money. New Bermuda grass fairways are mostly in and the greens were excellent. I played it back and down and certainly used every club in my bag. Greens were quick and held the ball very well. Overall the best greens I've played. Pace of play was under four hours, which was nice. 18 quality golf holes!

It will be back to private soon

Have been a member here for many years. This past winter the fairways were destroyed by winter kill. In early June the fairways were reseeded and are coming in nicely. If you have Groupon or are striving to play here at a cheap rate, get it done soon. As soon as the fairways mature the great rates and coupons will be gone and this course will be private again and be played by members and guests only.

Good course, bad timing

This course is in a good location, tucked in a nice neighborhood in the middle of it all. The course was in the process of reseeding the fairways. The fairways were soft and practically dirt. The pin placement on the back nine was terrible. The pin was placed on a slope on the majority of those holes. The course overall is very nice with fast greens. I would play this course again due to it being a good value, I would just call ahead to see if they are reseeding or aereating the course.

Excuse the reviews!

This is a championship course which lost it"s fairways due to the Polar Vortex this year, which was very harsh on Bermuda grass.
However, it's a great layout with excellent greens, probably the best greens in the Louisville area short of Valhalla.
Most reviewers here couldn't tell a good course from a bad one, and think that $25 is expensive for a golf course.
Well, this is a $60 course that you can play for $25 because of the fairways, which are now growing in quite nicely. The staff is friendly, the pace of play fantastic and the clubhouse, while nothing special, offers all the basics well.
I would recommend this Club highly at the low rates it is being offered at. When the fairways come back in, the price will be at lease double.
Also, if you are a walker, this is a great layout for you. Easy to get to the tee boxes from the greens. There are also very few homes on the course. Your biggest obstacle will be the mature trees that you will need to strategize your way through if you hit an errant shot.

jeff elks

Fairways have little to no grass. Only played three holes and had to come in because of thunder storms. Probable will not be back...but for 16 dollars not a terrible course.

don't waste your time

terrible condition, with fairways being redeveloped and very little grass, you need to move your ball to the rough for the second shot.
Won't go back.

Not Very Fun For a First Timer at This Course

First time at this course and really did not enjoy it. The fairways are in poor condition because they have been re-seeded...not much they can do about that...BUT...the layout was disappointing. I didn't even play the seventeenth hole because I couldn't find it. The scorecards and tee markers inexplicably do not have the shapes/yardages for the wholes on them. The rough was too tall. Trees are everywhere...even off the tee box there were two holes where you have to avoid trees. I hate hitting balls in the fairway and being blocked by trees. Additionally, on two holes, I had to wait for a groundskeeper to finish hosing a green. If you're playing for the first time, get someone who knows the course to play with you b/c there are several blind shots. On the positive side, the putting surfaces were nice. Overall though, I would not recommend this course.

Nice Greens

Go ahead and aim for the rough, the fairways are all dead and they still charge over 25 bucks to play. Greens are in great shape but still do have a true roll to them

Under Construction

When I played here on June 2nd their fairways were being reseeded which made playing conditions pretty bad. Not necessarily their fault, just something courses have to go through from time to time. I look forward to coming back when the new grass comes up! Otherwise the only other complaint I had was no course diagrams/layouts. I had no clue where to hit the blind shots but now that I've played the course once I know for next time.

Sunday Round That Never Ended

So I played with my buddy in just a twosome, both of us carry single digit handicaps and tend to play flat, and short pitch an putt courses like this really fast. Well right before our 2:30 scheduled tee time 3members came off the back9 and jumped up on the teebox in front of us..we laughed and watched them struggle to make bogey then played the first 2 holes at a combined -2 constantly pressure these ppl and feeling almost guilty cutting the corners in fear of hitting into them. Never once did they ask us to play thru and I thought it was very unprofessional of the clubhouse to allow ppl to jump around the course and cut in front of groups especially a twosome. After over a 3 hr front nine it was almost 6:00 and the constant drag of standing over your ball in the fairway for 10 minutes waiting to hit just got to be too much we just left. The momentum of round was lost and the course looks like it's 2 months behind. Fairways are mud balls..just had to lift clean and place it in the rough. Save your money and go play polo fields or etc for the same price. There's a reason it's kinda cheap and I bet it's bc the members refuse to spend any money on improvements bc they can't break 100 nor play in a timely manner!

Stay away until next year.

Course in horrible condition. Front nine had mostly dirt fairways, back nine had just been reseeded and was completely dirt. Staff disorganized, but tried. No carts available for tee time or other times before mine. Booked 18 and only could stand 9 because of conditions and 2.5 hours for 9 holes. Hopefully my fellow Golfnow peeps will see this and save their money for elsewhere. Hit 'em straight!

Not impressed

Absolutely does not have a Country Club feel to it. Fairways in rough shape. If it weren't for the greens, I would have given this a 1-star rating. I probably will not be back.

Can be slow play later in the day

The fairways were decimated by last winter's extreme cold as were other bermuda courses in the area but the greens at Jeff Elks are always nice. I still love this course and the people are friendly including the member couple who asked me to join up so here's hoping the fairways recover soon. Hot Deal tee times are definitely worth the money.

If you can get a hot deal it's ok

The area had gotten a couple of inches of rain the day before so I expected some casual standing water. What I did not expect was to see every "fairway" bare and brown. Very little grass on fairways but the second cut of rough was a solid 3inches. If you ball wasn't down the middle of the dirt ways, it was just about loss every time. The greens however, were decent and given the amount of rain, they were quite receptive. The staff in the snack and bar area were wonderful. Overall, the experience was good and if u can get a hot deal for 20 dollars or less, wanna get a relaxed round in then this is ok.

Early in the year issues!

Over all good course! The fairways were basic dirt. Grass was still in dormant stage but even still seemed to have lots of dirt. Pace of play was slow lots of waiting on tee box along with the 10 minute late start all 18 took 4 3/4 hours mostly due to groups not keeping pace of play in mind. Will plan on going again when grass grows to see if it's any better.

Nice, well kept course.

Excellent, well kept course. The only thing I would ask to change is that there is no place to go to the rest room on the course. There appeared to be rest room that had combination locks on them, but we weren't given the combination when we checked in.
