This course is a diamond in the rough
Royal Hylands is one of the best golf experiences in the area. It has challenging holes throughout. The greens are usually pretty fast. The price is reasonable for the quality of the course. But the GolfNow hot deals are not as good as last year. But it's still a good deal for what you get. The condition is always excellent from tee to green.
Fantastic coursr
One of the nicest and well kept places I have played around Indianapolis. Course has it's challenges and it's beauty. The course layout provides 18 unique holes and I would recommend the course to anyone.
Very Enjoyable
I was very surprised by this course. From the first hole till the eighteenth there isn't one hole that in anyway resembles any of the other holes. The fairways are perfect, they could be putting greens if cut shorter. The greens are very challenging, and I suppose that for the superintendent finding easy pin placements is also challenging on some of the holes. Driver is not always the best play off the tees as placement can be critical. The greens are kept very well and are a very nice speed. My only complaints are the condition of the teeing grounds both on the course and the practice range. It's not that they aren't maintained with plenty of grass, it's that it is a challenge to find a level surface to tee up in. I'd recommend using a sod machine to cut the grass off the top of the boxes, level them and replace the sod.
Thanks for the very enjoyable experience.
Awesome course!
Annual trip for me and my son. One of the best courses around! Very well manicured!
Great course
This course is well maintained and groomed. Has a couple challenging holes but over all very fun course. Worth trying out.
Well worth the trip
My buddy and I had been following all the reviews about RH so we decided to see what all the fuss was about. It was a 2+ hour drive for each of us.
The day we played was just after the area had been pounded by rain for 2-3 straight days, so there was an issue with standing water in some spots and some bunkers being a little washed out.
But other than that, this course was in FANTASTIC shape. It's a fun layout, not too tricked out and was pretty fair.
In retrospect I am glad it had rained because it slowed the greens down just enough. Those are some fun, interesting greens and I imagine they can put the pins in some spots and roll those greens and make it very difficult in some spots.
The only negative I have to say was there were a couple holes -- No. 2 and another uphill par-4 on the front -- that didn't really belong. 2 was a complete 90-degree dogleg.
All in all a fantastic round on a supremely well-maintained course with super friendly staff.
Hidden Gem of a course
Royal Hylands is easily the nicest course in the Henry, Hancock, Rush County areas. Beautiful mature course, that is well marked.
Only negative on the day was the massive amounts of rain that flooded the course. Fairways were incredibly "spongy" that very much altered the game a bit. Other than that, the course was a great round of golf.
Hidden gem
We always go a couple times of year. A favorite for area. Some tough holes. Good condition. Good greens. Pace can be issue at times.
Returned to my Alma Mater
This course is the hidden gem of Indiana. I was fortunate enough to play it as my home course during high school so I am very familiar with it. I hadn't played there since 2007 and let me tell you, the course is in fantastic shape. The greens are fast, fairways are well kept, tee boxes are groomed, and the club house has been updated. You would not think you were playing golf in Indiana the way they've designed the course with all of the hills. About 5 holes have significant elevation changes. This is not an easy course, it's still challenging to me even though I must have played it over 100 times by now. Bottom line is to play a course of this quality anywhere near Indianapolis it would be $70 and up easily but because you've got to travel to get to it, you'll only pay half of that.
Great course - highly recommend!
Excellent layout. Challenging holes. Very well conditioned. Very friendly staff. Come and play as often as you can.
Love it
It's always nice to play here. Very easy going club house that makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door.
course was in excellent shape
This was my first time at Royal Highlands. It is obvious that they take care of the course. And the sand in the traps had been tended to... not crusty, but lighter. The course offers some interesting holes. I liked #10 the best... significant slope change and somewhat hidden green. I intend to play it again.
Perfect
This course was in immaculate condition. It has always been in great condition.
One of my Favorites
I've been playing this course for 30 years and I am never disappointed. It is almost an hour from my house and worth the drive. First 11 holes are like normal wooded courses you see around here. Final 7 holes are like a links course. Great GolfNow Value. We found a hot-deal for 12 bucks plus fees. the course was in great condition for any time of year; excellent condition for this time of year. Greens were smooth and quick. Still using winter tee boxes, but they were very playable. Staff is always welcoming and seems like they are glad to see you.
great course
course was in great shape for this time of the year will be a go to course this year!!!
excellent for November
Even though played as single, able to move along quickly. Course in really good shape overall for November, greens a bit slow but have to expect that. Super course layout with nice variety of open vs narrow, long vs short holes. Definitely worth long trip to go there.
Out in the Knightstown beautiful peaceful countryside.
Well kept conditions with a different layout. A little hard in spots, but consistent. Hlls make for challenging holes with many blind shots. Greens were in excellent condition and were tough but fair. Much better than 30 years ago.
Great course, the superintendent could use a lesson in customer relations.....a little on the arrogant side!
