Golf Course Review.
Great course and very open fairways. Overall 4 Star course.
Golf Course.
Great course very challenging and forgiving at the same time. I’ve played here before and it’s just as good as the first time.
New Day, New Way to Play
This is the first course my wife and I played a full 18 together about six years ago and it remains one of our favorites. However, since joining a nearby course we hadn't played it in over a year. And, a few things have changed.
It was always one of the longest (#9 was 520 from the whites). We learned, however, that as of last year all local municipal courses encourage patrons to "choose your tee based off the yardage you hit your typical drive - not by gender or age." So now there are six tee areas ranging from a carry of 275 (#6) to 175 (#3-gray) down to 125 (#1-white). Also, tee to green is now measured in units of 5 (ex., 365, 215, etc.). However, due to COVID-19 issues none of the areas were marked nor the yardage signs revised, so I got out my phone and used the 18Birdies course GPS.
Since my drives carry about 175 and total a little over 200 I decided to use the #3 or gray tee distances. In a lot of cases this moved me near the previously marked forward tees. I found this a more satisfying way to play since I could now make several greens in regulation, something I had frustratingly failed to accomplish on this course through the years.
The course itself was in excellent shape - the greens were firm, super fast and true, and the fairways had been freshly mowed. But because of the virus crisis there hadn't been time to prepare the bunkers so you were encouraged to lay out of them for the time being.
Lakeside is still one our favorites, and with the new local rules regarding tee placement they've made it even better. We are now looking forward to giving the other municipal courses a try.
Same problems, different day.
I live about 5 minutes from this course so it’s very convenient. However, I only play it a couple of times a year. Why? It has nothing to do with the layout, course conditions, or staff friendliness. Those categories are always on the plus side.
The main issue, as it always has been, is pace of play. Whether you are walking(which is what I did) or riding, the pace of play is always a factor. No matter how fast you get through the front nine, you always get jammed up on the back. I actually saw a group of 6 players with 6 carts playing today. Had a twosome in front of me and they wouldn’t wave me through. Could have gotten the round down in probably 45 minutes earlier if proper golf etiquette was observed.
Not the first time I’ve experienced this. Until they get a ranger out there or start to enforce pace of play, a 5 hours plus round is always in the bag!
Lakeside
Walked 18 at 4:15 pm. Busy but was able to finish by 7:30.
Have not played this in a long time. Very nice course for the $$$ and overall very good shape.
Some walkers went off after my tee time, so this can get busy.
Too pricy
This course is more expensive than it probably should be. There are other courses in the area that are just as nice but way cheaper.
Lakeside is a great Lexington Golf Course
I would like to thank Steve and all of the staff keeping this beautiful golf course in great condition for every round! If you have not played Lakeside Golf Course yet I would highly recommend! Thank you Steve and all of the staff at LSGC.
Very disappointed
I booked on Golfnow for 1 golfer and I arrived at the coarse to the staff telling me I have to play with 3 other random people. When I planned to play alone. No where on their website or on Golfnow website does it say you will be paired with 3 other singles if your playing alone. I don’t feel comfortable playing with 3 other people during this covid crisis. I’m very disappointed. And now I have to rely on the staff to refund me. The guy at the front desk was very rude about it. All I wanted to do was play by myself. It’s not what I paid for.
