Tale of two Different but Good 9hole Tales
Course was built with an old 9 and a newer 9. Both are good, newer 9 has the better hillier 9.. Course used to be all private. Conditions were very good. The back 9 has the hillier property. Greens are very fun and have decent undulations.
Review
Very good course. Bunkers were under repair but other than that the course was excellent.
I really enjoy playing this course
I've read several reviews, those people that give this course bad marks, I'd really question their opinion.
Worst course I have ever played
Greens were brown. Fairways had no grass. Weeds and dandelions everywhere. Impossible to find your ball unless you hit center of the fairway every shot. Tee boxes had no grass, were dry, and not level. Greens looked like burned carpet. It was horrible. The worst experience I have ever had and I have played at courses all over the country. I will NEVER go back. Wasn't worth the 15$ hot deal. I wouldn't even play there if it was free for life
this course has potential
The course layout was good but the fairways were in bad shape. This could be from the weather we have been having but they looked burned and we have been having a lot of rain. So doesn't really add up. The greens were good. The marking on the course was terrible. There were no yardage markers and instruction on how to get from hole to hole were almost non existent. No information on the layout, how the holes play, at all. I liked the course and will play again. This course just went from a private country club to a public course. Hopefully it will get better.
decent for the money
Greens are a little fuzzy ... fairways haven't fully grown back in being Bermuda grass ... there are absolutely noooooo yardage markers on the fairways ... no cart paths tough to navigate from green to next tee box ... with that being said it is a fun and challenging layout could be better later in the year will give second chance
First and last time at this course
Heard that this club was no longer a country club and we wanted to give it a try. The setting is very nice and shows promise of what could be a nice course to play but that was not our experience. They have Bermuda and I fully understand that it's early in the year but they also had a lot (LOT) of other junk growing on the fairways and many spots of just dirt on the fairways. Very poor condition. Staff was friendly and helpful for first timers but the course was horrible for first timers. Rarely is anything marked and we found ourselves wandering around at times to find where the next hole was. The great majority of holes are also kind of gimmicky as there are many twists and turns to them and very few holes where you can actually see the green from the tee box. Many uneven lies to deal with as well. Tee boxes, if you can call them that, are also in need or work. Maybe it's early season, but this place needs a great deal of work to be anywhere close to a decent course. We didn't enjoy our round today at all and may not return. Might give it a chance if I get word that improvements have been made.
Wonderful day!
Weather was overcast and cool, but made for a great day of golf. Course was in excellent shape. This is a fun course to play with super fast greens. Hope to play there more.
Slipping a bit
Old Silo used to be the number 1 public course in Kentucky. This reputation has slipped as most of the sand traps were not just dirt pits.
When I got there they had no record of the T time yet you charged me the fee for making the tee time.
Pro caliber greens
This is a fantastic golf course, narrow fairways that are tightly trimmed, very fast greens that roll true.
Its difficult to find the next hole on certain parts of the course for a 1st player.
I will definitely be back, GolfNow has hit the Gold Mine will this course, for me.
Played the Blues 46-38, once my excitement settled down and got a good feel for the greens(not scared to putt downhill) I played smart and went for the fat. I actually enjoyed having downhill putts with big breakers once I had the speed down. If you appreciate Great Greens, you will absolutely love this course. I do! Playing again 8/4, hopefully pin placements will be in the same spot as their final round in the Tournament this weekend:)

Very interesting layout, and greens were the best in the state for a public course. The driving range is somewhat limited, but good enough to do the job. Very welcoming and helpful staff. A fun place for a shot-maker.
Fun day of golf. Interesting layout.
Truly enjoyed this round of golf. First time to play the course but certainly plan to return in the future. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Additionally, all other holders I spoke with on the course were extremely friendly. My only negatives were that there were limited cart paths and some of the tees took a little searching to find. Additionally, the greens had recently been aerated and were tough to putt -- expect they are normally lightning quick. Lastly, they need better yardage markers. I strongly recommend this course if you have never played it before. The Golfnow hot deal rate of $21.00 was great.
Fast and firm greens... Beautiful course
Hardest greens I've ever been on... Like hitting onto concrete, and greens were really fast, guy in the pro shop said 11 on the stimp. Beautiful fairways, long par 4s, par 3s are only180 from the tips, except 8 witch was close to 230, uphill, into the wind.... I chipped in 3 times or could have shot close to 80, finished at 72
You mentioned Old Silo, but posted on Mt. Sterling CC page. We had a High School Girls Tournament that day, and there were no GolfNow tee times.
