Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Great course great prices
Easily one of my favorite courses in the area right now. Love the layout and course conditions are fine. Bunkers and tee boxes aren't anything to brag about but by no means are they bad. Only downside is pretty thick rough. Prices are more than fair
Rough
Rough is very rough so stay on fairways.
Worth it
Accessible and good course, well maintained.
Father's Day
Course was in good condition and staff did their best to handle Father's Day traffic
In Good Shape
We played this course many many times and seen the good the bad and the ugly. Right now the course is in great shape even with all the rain and the greens are putting true. Some of the Teebox's need a little work but are playable. Bunkers are in decent shape and the fairways are firm and fast. Pace of play for our foursome was three hours and 50 minutes with a tournament going off on the back which was not bad. Overall I would recommend this course to any and all golfers for the price and location.
More sand at the beach
I love this course! I play it more often than anywhere else! It is in great condition right now and the best value around. The only reason I can't give it all 5 stars is because the sand traps are terrible. It's mud, worth a hard bottom, not sand. A little sand and this place would be absolutely wonderful. Actually, I'm gonna give you five stars anyway. But! Please, please, please get some sand in those traps.
Patuxent is a good Bargain
As usual Patuxent Greens is a pretty good bargain, though the course still has plenty of bare spots in the fairway. Tee boxes were in ok condition and greens were rolling pretty well; they have come back nicely since aeration. Would recommend Patuxent Greens for twilight play especially if it hasn't rained in a while, it still has poor drainage despite the million dollar renovation they like to brag about.
Getting better
Nice shape. Rough a little too tall.
Very solid
For the price ($32.50 on GN) and the time of year (March) this course was in great shape. Had a great time.
An Underappreciated Gem
This course is one of my absolute favorites in the immediate vicinity. The layout is very forgiving, the holes have a nice variety and they have done an amazing job improving the course and clubhouse over the past few years.
The place can get busy, and it is best to play early or later, to avoid getting stuck behind some of the slow-moving groups that typically bog down the course from 9am-1pm. Other than that, I have no complaints of the course, and the deals are definitely worth it, especially for the weekday rate.
Do yourself a favor and get the Insider Plus Card which makes up for itself after a few rounds.
Challenging Course
The course was in excellent condition. It was very challenging due to the numerous water hazards, which required you to hit the ball straight. Also the greens were fast and difficult to read that prevented you from being overly aggressive. Overall a challenging experience.
Great time
Overall, the course was fun to play. The layout is a bit odd and most holes were pretty pedestrian (nothing particularly interesting or difficult about any one hole), but it was well maintained and fun to play. Staff member was polite and helpful, and very welcoming to someone playing there for first time.
Good Value
Course was very average. Greens were quick and in good shape. Fairways/rough had bare spots. Pace of play was great, as there were very few groups out there. Played 18 holes in 3.5 hours.
Good course for the money
The course is as flat as the come. No elevation changes. Was a good bargain. The greens were in good shape. At times the pace slowed down
Good Course for the Money
Good course for the GolfNow price I paid. Greens were in good condition.
Good Course for the Price
For the GolfNow price I paid, I thought the course was good. I'd definitely go back and play it again. Greens were in good shape and overall, had a really good round of golf.
Great Round
The course was in great shape. All areas of play were very well maintained (greens, fairways & rough). Even better was the weather. Staff members very friendly and helpful.
Overbooked
The course was great, but they were overbooked and seemed to push golfers out every 7 minutes on top of each other. That caused the play to be WAY too slow. I know that makes more $$ but it seems that maybe tee times every 10 or 12 min, especially on booked holiday weekends, would have helped. It took us almost 6 hours to complete our round. Other than that, the course was great and the staff was courteous.
Ranger danger
Need to hire more Rangers to speed up pace of play. Twice now I've left a few holes early cause of the pace of play. When the group in front of you spends 8 min looking for a obviously lost ball something needs to be sad to them
Patuxent Greens 9-6-15
Course played well. Greens were in great shape! I believe they are to be aerated later this month.
Did see a fox crossing the fairway, which caught me off-guard.
Back nine was slightly more challenging.
I agree completely. Great deal, great course, but the bunkers are in horrible shape.
Some of the tee boxes look pretty bad already, but all in all, a great value!
