This is a good course with water hazards.
Great course to do a skill level assement of club control when face with many water hazards. And the putting greens are that of -which many who watch PGA tournament and wonder ; how difficult of a put the greens may be to read. A must play some day course!! Thanks Golf Now-
mid day mid week at montgomery village
i like montgomery village, especially for less than $20, because its not very busy, the 3 par 5s, 3 par 3s, format on the front 9, and because its much longer then the other courses in the area. i hope this course will stay open for awhile longer, ive heard some rumors that it will be townhouses and a shopping center in the future.
Difficult course for a beginner Long
Difficult and long course for a beginner. Well maintained a tee boxes need work
A pleasant surprise
I have not played a round of golf at MVGC in years and found it much better maintained than years past. Of special note are the large challening greens. We played as a twosome on a beautiful fall day at at our pace of play. It rained quite hard the day before which flooded many of the traps. I look forward to playing at MVGC again as time permits.
Good course, members kept the pace of play a bit too quick
Good course, but needs better signage (directions to next hole etc.)
FAST greens
Course in excellent condition. Greens receptive, true but fast.
Wide fairways, but many doglegs, so placement a priority.
Because course is so open, would play well for any hdcp.,
plus it adds to speed of play
The course need work, the lay out of the course is nice
I would not play this course again, unless they do a lot of work to the course.
An interesting,challanging golf course
Rolling hills offer varied holes some quite challenging .Condition of the course is reasonably good. Staff is inviting and the clubhouse food service is friendly and more than adequate.
Just can't get it right...unfortunately
I'd love to be able to give a good review...staff was very friendly, and gave me a discount because they had just aerated the greens and said they were "super slow". Well, 15 out of 18 holes had standing water in the cup, the greens had standing water, and the grass was long enough to be a fairway. I didn't see one grounds keeping crew member doing anything to try to fix that.
Its obvious they're trying to keep the place profitable while putting as little into the maintenance as they can....so sad, its a decent layout (save for the power lines that run through the middle of the course)
Poorly Maintained.
The greens were aerated, so we expected them to be bad. But the fairways had no grass in places and had weeds throughout and appears as if it had not been mowed in a week.. Nice layout, too bad it is such bad shape.
decent challenge.
Par 3's are challenging from the tips. You can score low here but can also post a high number if you're spraying it.
Awful
This course is a disgrace. With all of the good courses in this area I see no reason to go back until they fix the course. Some of the worst fairways I have ever seen.
Somewhat long, soft greens, few players
We played here on a potential rainy weekday and saw no one all day in front or in back of us. The course was soft but still firm enough to play well. The holes here are either long and wide or they are short and narrow. There are 3 par 5's and 3 par 3's on the front. Most of the par 3's are relatively long, while the 5's are mostly shorter (470-520). Par 3's were tough (one was 211 from the white tees) and the par 4's were generally 400+ yards from the white. The staff was very accommodating and I am not sure why there were so few players out there. The greens are quite smooth and putt extremely well, and they will still hold a well struck iron. They mark very easily, so repair a few marks when you get to each green. The only negative were a few tee boxes which seemed invaded by weeds, and the fairways weren't all grass covered. All in all a nice course, with a challenging and interesting layout, which could probably use a bit more business to fund a little better maintenance.
Has potential
This course has potential but needs a lot of work. You will need a kidney belt to ride down the cart paths. The fairways are dry and patchy with weeds. There is no signage to direct you to the next hole which confirms a strange layout. The greens were fast but with many old divots. Power lines run through 65% of the course, not pretty!
Fantastic Greens!
Great price for golf course. Fairways have some dirt patches but for the most part were great. Long rough makes course challenging if you don't hit it straight. Greens were very soft but also quick. Overall fantastic experience.
Very nice golf course to play in
The first time playing in Mogomery village golf course but it was extremly empressive.
This course gives you more for your money
I had a great time at this course. The customer representative at the club house were very friendly and very helpful. I will go back there to play.
Ok, but not in great shape
Too pricey for what is offered. For a private/semi-private club, course should be in much better shape.
A review by a local amateur golfer
I live in Rockville, MD. I've been playing at most of local courses near this Montgomery Village golf course. I heard that this course used to be private. Now I know why this course is now open to public.
Summary: don't play here. You'd be better playing at nearby courses like Montgomery muni courses or Blue Mash.
1. Club house facilities are quite old. (The inn's food is good, though.)
2. Pro shop did not have my booking info, which should be transferred from Golfnow.com. Thus, I had to show my copy of booking record.
3. As other reviewers said, fairway conditions are poor. I think the grass on the fairways is different from others. No way to improve the fairway conditions. You cannot be better off even if you hit a good tee shot to the center of fairway, which is just an another rough area.
4. Greens are well-maintained, but slow. I don't know why. But, slower than other courses' well-maintained ones.
5. I hate this. Residents in Montgomery Village were freely accessed to the course. I met several residents who walked and ran along the cart path. A mom with four kids just chatted when I was ready to hit my second shot. No way to police them.
I bet I'll never return to this course even if I can play for free.
Just wonder what exactly you are suggesting the staff do, suck the water our of the cups with a straw? Twice a year a course needs to aerate greens, you just picked a bad time. That forces substandard conditions for a week or so., which includes growing out the greens. Besides it had obviously just rained , hard, so they obviously could not put mowers on the greens.
They were nice enough to warn you and to discount the round. If they had not aerated people would be complaining about the greens.
