Great Course
Great layout and very challenging. Well worth the drive from northern Virginia.
Great clubhouse and relaxing to sit outside and hang out for a bit.
10/19/16
Pro shop staff and starter very friendly, even fellow golfers on the course seemed friendly, the course is challenging due to the Par 5's, but that is to be expected. The greens do require more of a precision shot. I think overall if you want to up your game, this is a course that can help you. I had to leave early and missed the last 4 holes because had to return home to care for our Shiz Shu. I was not disappointed because I like playing different courses.
very nice golf course
nice view challenge each hole nice green and tee box and fairway i wish to play again soon..
First time on the course!
I ride my motorcycle past this course a lot and saw a few holes from the road which looked nice. I booked a round and got paired with 3 other golfers that had never played the course. Note: if you haven't played this course, there are several holes where the fairway runs out and you will need to know the distance to hit your drives, etc. We went off on the back nine and I shot par on the 10th hole, bogey on the 11th and par on the 12th. I was thinking this isn't a tough course, lol.
But the course has narrow fairways and you need to keep it in play or it will be tough to make par or even bogey. I quickly realized that after the 13th hole. I played from the yellow tees which were challenging but the greens are very tricky to putt. Course was in great shape and very nice layout.
The clubhouse staff were friendly and my round was finished in 4:30 hours but this was a Tuesday starting at 1:00 PM. Will probably return on a weekend to see the pace of play. Also there was lots of wildlife. Saw several deer very close to my cart and 2 hawks.
ok It,s hard ... but so much fun
The course is in such good shape considering what a hot summer it was. Happened to meet the greenskeeper on one hole. A very nice young man, took time to say hello and ask how my round was going. The greens are very large, with some huge slopes and breaks. Many holes have tight chipping areas, testing your ability to make clean ball contact. Dont be afraid to move up a set of tees. It will still test you plenty.
I play a lot of golf in The frederick ares which has many very nice courses. I pick PB Dye as the best. Go Play !!!
Always a good experience
Course is in great shape although the greens were not as fast as I had remembered - not sure if this is by design because they are normally extremely fast and difficult.
Overall would recommend anyone to play the course as the scenery is nice and the layout and conditions are worth the trip.
Rainy day round
Course held up good with steady rain falling, but, Mother Nature would eventually win. Obtaining a rain check through golf now was incredibly easy.
Good day
Great course with it being in pretty good condition especially for this time of year. Wish I played better, but not courses fault I can hit a straight drive.
Overrated
Too many blind shots and pin placements on edges of hills if you have no prior knowledge of this course you're in for a fun around. Need to know the limited Landing areas and Hazards that are not present from any tea shot. Course was in fine condition butt I prefer a less gimmicky course

Top ten public course!
The course is in wonderful shape. Very well maintained and a fun course to play.

Don't die on PB
I played here a couple times and the last time was actually towards the fall. I will tell you it is one of the prettiest places to play with the foliage emanating in the backdrop. There were "bright red" trees peaking out and made for an amazing view.
The first hole can get you if you don't listen to the starter. They give you the correct aim point which helps a lot. the fairways seems to slope one way or another.
The course if truly fun to play on and no better two finishing holes #9 & #18. Absolutely breath taking. Coming into #9 green is a real challenge as you have a narrow throat to come into. Green side bunkers await your arrival and if you hit it thin your ball will become a scuba ball in the green side water.
The greens are pretty fast which is enjoyable to putt on. Go out and enjoy this course. It will have you coming back for more.
Need to better manage their course!!!
Played today with my son, figured it would be busy and slow since the holiday. He was even and I was 1 up through 4, then while setting for our second shot on 5, a ball came within a few feet of the group while we were waiting to hit our second shots. No big deal, then another, and another. No fore, and no one came to say sorry…
Didn’t say anything, let it go then when they came to hit their second shots they never said a word, but I told them where their ball was since they couldn’t find it. Next two holes, while teeing off on a par three a ball bounces off the cart onto the tee box while someone was over their ball – again no fore nothing.
This time, they had to park beside us since the two holes were close and I said guys it’s a tight day, holiday and it’s slow. Nothing, not a word or sorry…
Next hole, I was further down because of the drive, but my son said they hit again and almost hit one of the twosome we were joined with, when I asked he said yes they hit two balls. While on 11, a long par 5, we saw two behind us watching because there was 4 on the green, 4 in the fairway and they were on the tee. I looked back and they were gone, a minute later here comes a ball that lands right next to me while I was waiting for the green to clear, and another, then another.
I picked up their balls and drove back to speak with the group and called the club house to complain. While on 12 someone came out, not sure what he said, but it didn’t happen again. The guy said I am sorry come to the clubhouse when you finish and I’ll give you a round on me (he understands yadayada.)
We finished the round and went to see the guy. When I walk in I said sorry for the challenges, but after 4 times that’s ridiculous. He gave me a $35 coupon, not a round and everyone around him look at my son and I as we were some form of criminals.
So after that I got $17.50 for me and $17.50 for my son to return. I do not know what was more of an insult, almost getting hit 4 times or this guy thinking somehow $17.50 made up for it.
I vote with my feet, there are many good courses in this area for the same price or less and they are managed….

Very slow play, no help from management
I came in with high expectations based on other reviews and word of mouth, but then my early afternoon round on a Saturday took 5 hours and 15 minutes. It was awful. We were waiting on every hole. I don't know if it was because they pack the tee sheet, because there were slow golfers, because the course features a stupid number of blind shots, or all of the above, but the staff did not seem interested in speeding up the round. We finally flagged down a ranger around the 6th hole, and he told us he would try to speed things up. We saw him again on 9, and he told us he had identified the slow group, but was at the end of his 8-hour day and was going home. I don't expect this particular ranger to work overtime, but I do expect a course that apparently prides itself on presenting a good experience to have rangers on the course through the evening, especially on a weekend. The ranger also informed us that he had not asked the slow group to skip a hole. I can't understand why he didn't do this. Perhaps he didn't want to anger the group, but in doing so he angered the many groups that followed. 18 holes should rarely take 4 hours and 30 minutes, and it should NEVER take over 5 hours.
One final note, it was 90-plus degrees and half the water coolers stationed around the course were empty by 2:30. As it was apparently a crowded day, course management should have been more attentive to this.
I will take my business to other courses in the area, like Worthington Manor and Whiskey Creek. At least Worthington Manor's rangers bring extra water to you on hot days.
Update: I have emailed the golf course twice, as per their comment above requesting me to, but they have not responded. I would love to have posted an update that the course's management apologized and told me my experience was an aberration. Unfortunately, this only reinforces my belief that P.B. Dye is very poorly run.

Great Experience
I've long wanted to sample PB Dye course in Maryland, but not until this week did I get the chance. And oh was it worth it. The people, from the bag drop to the pro shop to on course, were outstanding, helpful and made experience good. The course was challenging, fun, and who can not remember the hundreds of railroad ties that make the course unique.
The course provides numerous challenges, and the green complexes are of utmost challenge. Undulations abound, so hit to correct segment of green. The fairways are ample, and if you play the correct tees for your game it will be a great day!
Definately should not miss. Fun, playable, challenging and a great playable course.
arbyoliver - Thank you for a perfect 5 star rating! We appreciate you taking the time to write about your experience with us! Come back and see us again soon!
Fairways and tees in great shape, greens could be better
The fairways and tee boxes were in great shape and everything around the course was well maintained. However, many of the greens were not quite up to that standard, as they were uneven and the roll was not true. Many unexpected bumps on many putts. Some had clearly been damaged and you could see the attempts to repair.
Another thing I want to complain about is that when we played it was cart path only. It had rained for an hour or so the night before, the first significant rain for many days. On the day we played the sun was shining from the morning and the course was completely dry when we started just after 12 PM. I can understand they want to protect the golf course when it's wet, but that was not the case as far as I could see. There were very few people playing so I can't imagine that a 90 degree rule would have ruined the fairways. This is a very difficult course to play cart path only, especially with the heat index above a 100, so when a thunderstorm moved in as we were playing the back nine, for the first time I can remember we are actually glad to have to stop. This ruined an otherwise great experience.
Bjorn7660584 - Thank you for the 4 star rating! We hope to see you again on the course soon!
Course was in good shape, group in front of us was slow
The course was in good shape and fun to play. Good setup. Group in front of us was very slow, but the Marshall came out and pushed them.
jdtepper90 - Thank you so much for the 5 star review! Come back and see us again soon!
Very well kept for this weather
I've seen a lot of burned out greens and fairways in recent weeks but PB Dye was well manicured and very lush. Greens rolled true and consistent. Everything was tended to. Heard they had a tourney the next day but if the course is that pristine all the time I'll definitely return. Great layout and def a challenging golf course. Played from the tips (first time in a long time) and got the full experience.
Wow! Thank you very much for the 5 star review! We hope to see you back soon!
A Great Challenge!!
If you like to play a challenging courses, then this the course. There are many blind shots along with forced carry shots. The course was in great shape the fairways just perfect. The greens rolled nice..
Thanks for the review! We're glad to hear you found our course to be in great shape and that you got a challenge out of it! Thanks for playing, come back soon!
Terrible shape
This course used to be in excellent condition but no longer. From Greens to rough, it is not taken care of. Most municipal courses are better kept. Terrible shame since the layout is excellent and it used to be phenomenal.
We're sorry that you feel our course has gone downhill, John. We appreciate your feedback as we are constantly working toward improving our course. Please send us an email to pbdyegolf@outlook.com if you would like to further discuss your experience.
Challenging course
PB Dye has a variety of interesting holes. one uses nearly every club in the bag. You have to work the ball 2 ways off the tee. Par 5s are reachable with good shots. It's one of the better upscale daily fee courses in the greater DC area.
Thanks for the review! We are glad our course could provide you with a bit of a challenge! Please come back and play with us again soon!
