Poor Tee Time Management

I am not one to complain but I have to bring this to the general manager at the Woodlands attention. I had a 7:24 AM tee time (Saturday 7/29/23) where I arrive at my normal one hour prior to going out. As soon as I was completed with my warm up I drove my cart over to the starter who looked extremely confused and stressed. I informed him of my 7:24 AM tee time and he asked me to go head over to the first tee box. There was a group of three standing around looking even more confused as well as another gentleman who had the same tee time as I did. The group of three that was waiting was late and they had a fourth player that was late as well so they opted to continue without him. By this time it was already close to 7:30 AM. I figured, getting out a little late isn't so bad. As soon as the group in front was out and close to the green a golf cart of two other gentlemen pulled up followed by the starter. The starter asked me for my name and tee time again, then told me that I had been moved to 7:48 AM ... 24 minutes beyond my original tee time which in my opinion is unacceptable. The whole point of getting out early was to avoid the excessive heat expected later that morning and afternoon. I would think for $92 to ride the management could be a little more efficient with getting the groups out on time. I understand there are occasions when this may not happen but in any case there was no point in punishing me where they could've made the group that was behind us wait instead of pushing them in front of us.
I have to say though, the gentleman in the clubhouse was very apologetic and offered me other options to go out on the back side first and then eventually get paired up on the front. However, I opted out because no matter what I would've went out later than planned and then right in the middle of the excessive heat. I would hope in order to maintain integrity the Woodlands management would work proactively to ensure groups get out on time consistently. I'm not looking for compensation or any further apologies. I just want management to be aware that this type of behavior is unacceptable. Happy golfing!

Difficult?Unfair pin placements

The course is in really good condition and is challenging. The tee to green it is a great test but when you now get on the green it's a different story. The pin placements are pretty much unfair. Most of them were tucked on slippery downslopes that made it impossible to get close even with a good lag.others were placed on domes .For the mid to even upper single handicap golfer it makes for a very frustrating day. I now see why most people prefer to play Diamond Ridge

Good Course, Tough Layout

I played The Woodlands for the first time and was impressed with the condition of the course. Aside from some ball marks not being repaired by players, the greens were in great shape, as were the fairways and tee boxes. The rough was long and challenging to get out of at times.

Nearly every hole has elevation change and bends that allow for both creative shot-making and challenging approaches.

The only negative to the course layout was pin placement on several holes that bordered on unfair to the intermediate or even advanced amateur golfer. Many, particularly on the back nine, were placed in positions where long putts were extremely difficult to get close despite good approach shots.

If you are playing here, beware that there is not a lot of service on the course. We played on a day that reached 90 degrees by 10 a.m., but the turn house was closed – the ninth hole is not near the clubhouse – and the snack cart did not reach us until the 13th hole. There was also not water available on the course for players. Make sure to plan for this if you're playing in the heat or at a time you'd expect to get a snack.

Diamond Ridge

Course is pretty average. Not bad, but it won't impress either. Diamond Ridge / Woodlands has one of the best clubhouses / restaurant setups however. It's roomy and offers a lot of good food. Pace of play here has been pretty mediocre. I typically encounter a 5 hour round. Will still go back from time to time, but Woodlands is the better option.

1st time was not a good time

On Thursday, June 3, with a Tee time of 4:00 pm, me and three other friends checked in around 3:40 due to the rain that was on the way. When we got to the counter, the young lady was very friendly and helpful. We wanted to play but we were fully aware there was no way we could complete a round of golf. We asked could we get a rain check for at least 9 holes because of the rain. We were told yes.

We were on the 7th hole when it started to rain. I wanted to stop by my friends wanted to complete 9 holes based on what we were told, about getting a rain check after playing 9 holes.

On the ninth hole, it got very dark and started lighting and raining very hard, so we heading to the clubhouse. At the counter was a young man who said he was the other manager. We told him was said at the counter while checking in. He told us, Woodlands do not honor rain checks for golfers during twilight start times. We paid $42 to play and I believe this was the most unfair ruling I experienced since playing golf.

I believe the Woodlands could have done a much better job, dealing with a situation like this.

Respectfully,

Gary Stubbs

Been A While Since I've Played...

I play a lot of the Baltimore County courses, but never seem to play Diamond Ridge. I did this week...and I was surprised what good shape the course was in. The fairways were in great shape, as were the greens which were very fast. The rough was long and lush, so added strokes to the hole if you didn't hit the fairway. The course was dry and firm from the lack of rain, so the upside of that was a lot of roll. I don't know what they are doing with #17, but all the tees were on the forward box. I use to walk this course, but can't any longer because there are just too many ups and downs, especially on the front 9. It's definitely a challenge to walk--especially for we older folks. This is a good challenge with a nice blend of risk-reward holes. They have a nice snack bar with a great BLT!!

Overpriced

Fairways were terrible. Muddy, no grass on a lot of them , couldn't find your ball in first cut of rough even if you knew where it went in. Rough very high, for your average golfer, this was a RIP OFF. $54.00???...for an unkept marshland?? I won't play there again, nor will I reccomend the Woodlands to anyone. Greens had crabgrass running through them. The staff is probably rating thos course in the 4 level. Very poor course and conditions. Totally disgusted.

Tough course; POOR conditions (a shame!)

Tough layout with tough greens. A good challenge - bring your A game (or at least your B+ game). Sadly, the course is in terrible condition, though the greens were in decent shape. A real shame, as in years past, it seemed always to be in perfect condition.

Getting better, but greens did not impress

Played two rounds this week at DR - one on Sunday 3 days after reopening from the quarantine and one 5 days later. The fairways and rough were immaculate - thick rough and clean fairways. But the greens were surprisingly bad. The first round they were very long and very bumpy - every putt jumped and bounced off the club face and would not hold its line. By the second round they had cut them down a bit, but the greens were still very bumpy. They may have had a reason for why they were the way they were, but I would have expected the greens to be pristine after such a long layoff. Quite disappointing. Overall a good layout with a wide variety of shots. The staff were friendly, other than the starter who was quite grumpy, getting after us for not going immediately to the tee from the adjacent practice green when there was still 8 minutes left until our tee time. How were we supposed to know you wanted us to tee off early? All you had to do was let us know, not jump down our throats. Otherwise an enjoyable round and a great value at $33 walking.

Better-Than-Average Condition

It's been over a year since I've played Diamond Ridge. The fairways were in good condition, especially with the hot, dry weather we've had. There were some dry, hard pan areas but they were almost all off the fairway and in the rough and beyond. Greens were in excellent shape, and the bunkers were average--they need a little more sand. Pace of play was excellent--a little under 4 hours. The staff were all very nice and welcoming. And, the lunch afterwards was good, fast, and affordable. The only thing I want to complain about were the ground wasps...they were all over the place. These are the bees that generally do not sting, but they bore holes in the bunkers, greens, and the edges of the greens. They are annoying and they were on every hole. I don't understand why they can't spray for these things, but they have them every year and I should have remembered that! Won't play in July/August timeframe at either course in the future.

One of the best layouts in Maryland

I have played this course on multiple occasions, and it has always been in great shape. Even now in February, the greens were rolling true and faster than expected. They recently brought down the superintendent from Greystone and he has been doing a wonderful job getting the course into great condition. I can’t wait to see it in May.

Aside from condition, this course has an incredible layout. No two holes are similar and there are multiple ways to play each hole. Not to mention the elephants buried under almost every green.

Great course. Great staff. Definitely recommend

Beautiful conditions

Amazed at how well the course was taken care of for this time of year. Played a different course on Saturday and coming to Diamond Ridge yesterday was a complete difference. Greens and tee boxes were in GREAT shape - grass was lush, cut beautifully...pace was good...had to pair up with a twosome in front of us then slowed down due to foursome ahead. A single and twosome jumped in front of us without even saying anything - not a reflection on the course...just inconsiderate people.

Horrible

1. We weren't told greens were being aerated.

2. Fairways and tee boxes were in horrible shape.

3. Sand everywhere from tee box to green not traps just sand. Multiple tee boxes had an 80/20 sand to grass ratio

4. Cart paths were probably the worst I've seen. Huge pot holes or broken pavement.

5. You will be very angry paying peak price for this course.

Will never play this course again.

Walked

Challenging, varied layout

Course is always in great shape. The layout is varied and requires a number of shots. Many holes are doglegs requiring tee shot placement, some are tree lined requiring accuracy and others are grip it and rip it. Do yourself a favor and walk the course. You will enjoy it better.

One of the best affordable Muni courses around!

This used to be my "home" course, and I just went back for the first time since I moved. Still love this course. The facilities are excellent, and they serve both Diamond Ridge and Woodlands courses. The Woodlands course is significantly more expensive, but I think Diamond Ridge is the better course. The pro shop staff is always friendly, as are the starters, the marshals, and the kitchen staff, and the groundskeepers here are fantastic! They do a great job, and they are respectful of the golfers, which inexplicably isn't always the case. There's a large practice putting green and an enormous practice putting green, along with a driving range and a well bunkered chipping green between the driving range and #10 tee. The course is deceptively challenging. In recent years they have gotten rid of some trees and some natural growth areas that has made the course more accessible for most golfers. But it's still challenging. I would say the front 9 is tougher, but the back 9 has three consecutive holes that are as tough a 3-hole gauntlet as I've played (# 11,12,13). But birdies can be had on the back. There are plenty of water coolers on the course, and the clubhouse is nicer than most. The tees, roughs, bunkers, fairways, and greens are all in very good shape year to year. For those of you who prefer to walk, the front would be a tough walk, but the back isn't bad at all. The superintendent does a great job. It's a bit of a squirrely drive to get there, but it's worth the drive.

Great Value, Good Course

This was my first time playing Diamond Ridge, I had played The Woodlands a few years ago and I would have to say i enjoyed Diamond Ridge more. This course is a great value. We booked on the web site for just $39 on Sunday afternoon.
The course was in pretty good shape, everything was great, but the greens probably needed to be cut, they were pretty slow, but true. This course offers a good variety of holes, some nice par 5s (some reachable with well played drives), fun par 3s (length of the par 3s makes the course more interesting, no standard 150 yd. holes), and a few short par 4s. The variety of 3- par 3s, 3- par 4s, and 3- par 5, make the back nine fun.
There are a lot of bunkers that are well placed but the greens are fairly large and the fairways forgiving.
The pace of play was standard and we never found ourselves waiting more than a few minutes to hit, even though we had 3 walkers in front of us.
The practice/warm up areas are really nice too, with a large driving range, 2 putting greens, and a chipping green on the side.
The guy who was paired with my group told us the red stake with green tops marked environmental areas that provided a free drop, I guess to keep people out of them. I don't know if this is true but I will ask the starter when we go back.
The holes are fairly spread out so you never feel like there are too many people around or you are hurried. We did see at least 8 deer throughout our round.
Cart girl was friendly, but only came around twice during the round on a very hot and humid day.
I will definitely be back to play, our round was very enjoyable.
