Excellent greens, fairways, tees and course. Major improvements constantly happening.
I started playing Crystal Lake about 6-7 years ago. At that point it was in need of a lot of work. I have eye witnessed that work being done over the last several years. It had a long way to go, and besides the construction between holes 8 and 9 it has come that long way. The greens are how they should be and are very well kept. As good as any I’ve played on in North America. Fairways are always great and being kept up and the tee boxes are some of the flattest and fairest for a good setup line at your target. In the clubhouse I always found the staff friendly and this year the hotdogs were outstanding. I also like the fact that they have a good fleet of new Club cars. I have been very impressed with the amount of high quality improvements. It would be nice to see at least some sort of area where are you could go and hit a few balls. Even if it was into a net. Besides that I really enjoy playing at Crystal Lake. I’m excited to see just how good it will be in a few years from now when all the construction is done ! Major Kudos to greens keeper there if it’s the same guy that has been around the last few years.
Love the Course
I really enjoy playing Crystal Lake. The course is in great shape, the greens are well maintained and fast, and the course is very walkable. Couldn't ask for a better experience. The clubhouse isn't much to look at and it usually full of loud and drunk patrons but if you're there for Golf this is one of the best courses in the surrounding area.
Going to play it again next weekend.
Very nice well kept course.
Hot Dogs were great too
Beautiful course, slow pace, impossible greens
Well maintained course, very slow pace of play. The greens were impossible. It's conflicting for me to be writing this review because the course is very well maintained and the greens are beautiful, but they are incredibly quick and the slopes on them will take a ball well off the green even if barely moving. Sometimes even the uphill puts will stop short of the hole and roll back, past you, and off the green.
The course is always in great condition, including the greens. The layout can be challenging for all levels, but still fun for a high handicapper. The staff are player friendly and fun to interact with. And I’d highly recommend a round.
Affordable 18-Hole Course
Pretty course nestled in a planned unit development. New houses being constructed has caused some holes to be re-designed. If you are using a golf app don't get confused by hole 8. Golf Pad still shows it as a par 5 even though it was changed to a short par 4 last year. Well-maintained, friendly staff, and excellent value.
Playability
Generous fairways. Love the occasional dog legs for variety of play. Greens run true and fast. Downhill putts require exceptional care with regard to pace.
OK
Greens where in Great shape. Some of the truest Greens around. 9 Holes where in decent shape and where interesting. The other 9 where in varying conditions of need upkeep and work. If you want to beat it around this is a course for you. Course is definitely scoreable.
Great Greens course was in great shape .
Greens were in great shape and were pretty quick.
Front 9 was a bit slow but the back nine opened up and finished round in 4 hours 15 minutes. Make sure you have water in your bag as there is none on the course. It was a great value at the price. Got a hot deal on GolfNow fir 18 & cart for $44 . Will definitely play again
Tight approaches and a snails pace
Course was in good shape. Greens were terrific. Without water stations, and no beverage cart - playing on a super hot day requires lots of prep. The pace of play was horrible. Not sure if that is due to the tight tee times, or just bad golfers. Bring your accuracy, not much room around most greens to miss.
Don’t play if you want to relax and have a few drinks
Staff completely rude and they try to intimidate you. They don’t allow alcohol on the course at all and will confiscate your coolers or bags. They also will check your golf bags for alcohol before you tee off. Course itself is nice and well kept. Not worth playing if your trying to have a fun relaxing game, ranger will follow you around and stay with you to make sure your not drinking.
