Hidden Gem in North Shore
First time playing Ould Newbury Golf Club and the course did not disappoint. Great layout and it is a lot more challenging then the yardage/scorecard looks. Elevated greens, sharp doglegs, and tricky greens make ONGC a hidden gem on the North Shore. #6 was a great looking hole hitting over the marsh. Was excited to play it today and will definitely come back, course was in great shape!
Beware the Livingsocial deal!
They only honor the Livingsocial deal with a limited number of tee times each day and you can't get a Golf Now teetime, you get the mulligan message instead! I've played over 1200 different golf courses and never had one that wouldn't honor a special deal without telling you in advance before you purchased it! This is outrageous!
Oulde Newbury Great course
A small Membership but open to the Public Course, friendly staff willing to offer help and recommendations. Course was the best I played all season. Definitely worth traveling to but make sure you hae a Tee time.
Fun golf course
This was a fun 9 hole course...stay alert to golf balls as the fairways are all running into each other...long narrow and hilly! excellent value!
A Very Well Maintained 9 Holer
Ould Newbury has changed with the times. A decade ago it was a busy, fully subscribed private club. Not in these new economic times, it is a quieter course that welcomes the public with good rates. My friend and I meet there occasionally, as it is 15 minutes away from both of us. It is always well kept, but as it is built on the edge of the marsh, it can be pretty wet after heavy rains and very buggy at twilight or on non-windy days. You start on top of a hill on the first tee, with busy Rt. 1 on the right and come up that same hill on the second and ninth holes. There are some unique design features with all of the hills. The fifth just keeps on going up to a green perched atop a steep hill. The 8th green is mounted on a stark knoll and pitches dramatically from back to front. The 9th is a 200 yard uphill par 3, that no one hits in regulation. There is the famous tree in the center of the fairway that affects your ball flight. The clubhouse looks like it has not changed much in 50 years. It appears they have preserved a time capsule from golf back in the persimmon and balata days. The staff are all quite friendly and they do their best to make daily fee payers feel welcomed. The membership seems tolerate us as a forced necessity during this down time. If you are on the upper North Shore and want to play a 2 hour 9 on a quality course for short money, Ould Newbury will serve you better than all of the others.
A very good test of golf
It is not a long course but most greens are elevated. It is imperative that your approach shots are the correct distance. Greens are fast.
Friendly staff
Course is one of the better 9 hole courses in the area and it in pretty good shape..... A few long par 4's and the 9th hole is a monster 210yd uphill par 3...... Small greens roll nicely and have alot of character.... Ill play it again!
More challenging than would expect from 9 hole course. Very good conditions, especially the greens.
Excellent 9 hole layout, with a good mixture of length and shot making opportunities. Greens were in excellent condition and very challenging. Pretty course with lots of elevation changes makes renting a cart a smart move.
Challenging 9 holer. Bring your bug spray.
Lots of elevation changes. Sometimes a couple of clubs worth of elevation. Kept wanting a breeze to help control the mosquitios.I will definately be back.
Good 9 hole course. speed of play can be an issue. challenging but fair layout.
very well maintained course with tough greens. a bit of cross-fire on a few holes/tee boxes but not a huge issue. speed of play can be an issue particularly if you're making the turn to complete 18 holes. 1st timers will struggle with understanding distances and driving strategy on blind/partially blind tee shots.
well maintained nine hole track
great nine hole course, excellent condition. many raised greens keep the course challenging.
That's on LivingSocial, not the golf course. Don't blame the golf course for not having details that LivingSocial posted. Also if you did not see tee times online then pick the phone up, do a little leg work, instead of giving a solid golf course a one star.
They honored my deal and had no issue at the course. YOU NEED TO CALL THE COURSE DIRECTLY for a tee time, not go through Golfnow or Golf18. Be proactive and don't slam a course with a bad review. They were very accommodating and helpful.
