great time here
Clubhouse is at the top of a hill (big hill) and even with a cart, you're going to get some exercise. The members are very nice, the staff is super, the view outstanding, and the course is well maintained with some serious rough and reasonably well protected greens-if you can't hit from a downhill or uphill lie, its going to be a longer day. Its not that easy to have a great round here, but its a swell time even if you don't
Challenging 9 hole course
Mike in the pro shop is very friendly and helpful when you arrive making for a great start to the day. Course was in beautiful shape and clear of fallen leaves which can be a problem this time of the year. Be warned, the course is rather hilly and would be a workout if you were walking. As much as I enjoy walking the courses I play I would suggest taking a cart for this course. While it may not be the longest course, it's length is made up by the lies that you will find yourself in due to it's hilly nature. Overall, a highly enjoyable round! Will definitely be back!
challenging 9 holes
Pretty significant elevation changes challenge you with angled lies and blind shots, but can reward well struck balls with extra roll if you can hit over the crests.
Friendly
Excellent day of golf. Pro Mike McBroom was awesome. I played with my young son(5) and Mike was great. Made him feel at home. Course in great shape. Greens always perfect. Will be back.
A course not to be toyed with!
I went out for a quick nine and it definitely cost me a couple strokes. If you have never played here the layout can be confusing. The starter gave me a little map but if was still tough to follow. The rough was rough and the greens rolled true. This winter killed most green in the area- they have the best greens I have played on this year. I was hoping it would be easy but it did have some challenges. A lot of blind shots and up and downs. The sand traps where not always in the best shape and people were not racking them but I was just for a quick nine so I had fun anyway- Great afternoon.
Leave the driver in the bag.
Not the longest 9 holes around but a great value. The overall course and greens were I great shape. Hit a little back up coming to the first hole, (we started on 5) but it cleared up after a few holes. Still managed for a twosome to pay 18 in under 3 hours. Never got to use the club house due to an after funeral gathering but oh well. Have been in there before and it was very nice. I'll be back to play again.
Nice 9 holes
Course is in very good shape, greens were fast(take a few puts on the practice green before heading out). I work nearby, the course was nice for an extended lunch break.
Great short course in Quincy
This is a great course to practice your game. It's not long but challenging the rough makes it a challenge.
If you tend to spray the ball the trees come into play.
The staff is great - down to earth and eager to help!
Furnace Brook
The course was very hilly and you needed to stay in the fairway in order to score. The greens were excellent. The people were very friendly and the cost was very reasonable. I will definitely be back.
Hidden gem worth finding.
Furnace Brook isn't perfect but for the pace of play, challenging layout, greens, friendly staff and members and value it's worth 5 stars. The yardage may be only 6,000 yards but it will challenge all types of golfers with the different lies, smaller greens and sometimes thick rough. If you want a perfectly manicured, wide open, full of par 5s course FB is not the place but you will get a solid round of golf, nice views and a nice spot to enjoy a post round beverage.
.Scenic, short 9 hole course well maintained with fast greens
This 9 hole course is higher and has more hills than any I have played. There are good views of the City of Boston and the harbor. The hills make it unusual to have a flat lie. The course is well maintained. The greens are in excellent condition and fast. Plan to spend some time on the practice green before the round. At the time we played there were no par 5 holes.(when the nearby school is in session they shorten their longest hole for school safety)
Decent 9 hole layout with many elevation changes; not easy to walk
Close to Boston. Fairly hilly; not easy to walk. Semi-private, 9 hole course. We were treated very well by the golf shop staff. A lot of blind shots. Course was in decent shape.
Decent , worth a visit .
Decent course , friendly people . Worth the money I paid for it . It was local also so it all worked out ..........................
Nice day on course
Really nice staff. Cart was clean. Course very well kept. We both enjoyed it and look forward to going back soon
Thia course is great for practice.
Descent course for the money, largest problem maintenance always going on during play?
Good Value
Nice course with challenging layout for such as short length.
I wouldn't want to walk 9 twice.
I liked the course. I thought that it was challenging with some blind tees and lots of topography to negotiate. The tee boxes could have been better identified but overall I thought that it was an interesting course and reasonably well maintained. The counter guy made a point of reviewing the course with us before we started as this was a first for both of us playing.
Good value
50yes 50years ago i caddied here it was then known for it's greens. They are still great ,i played in the middle of a heat wave so they were a little longer than normal but were still quick &true
Fairways & tees were in good shape.Short 9 holes but really worth playing.Found staff to be friendly
Great Value
It cost $16 for 9 with a cart. The course was pretty well maintained, they were mowing while I played, but didn't affect me very much. The staff and members were very friendly. Only complaint would be that I did not see many fairway markers on a few of the holes. Other than that a great buy.
Great value, nice setup!
I think this course is a little bit of a hidden jewel in Quincy. Hidden away off the beaten path it has nice views of the harbor and surrounding lands. The course is hilly and on the short side, but challenging enough with small greens and doglegs. If it were a 18 hole layout, I would have rated it a 4, but because there is not much variation between the tees for the front and back 9 it can be repetitive. As a 9 hole course, it is great and playable for high handicappers.
