Do not play here
I had reservations about coming back here after last year but a friend talked me into it. Very cheap but you get what you pay for.
5.5 hr round. They send people off in 10 min increments. Multiple holes had four 4somes waiting.
The course condition is dismal. Very wet. Little grass. Sand is dirt. Not good. Greens were solid although some of the pin placements were insane (on a downward sloping steep hill off green).
Would not go back even if for free. Too many other good bc courses around to play.
Upset
We got pushed back 30 minutes for a few delay and then got called in after hole 14 for sundown- there was plenty sun left to finish. I didn’t even ask about a rain check or some compensation because I knew I wouldn’t even want to come back.
I really enjoy playing this course. Very basic straight layout for the most part. Course is used quite a bit. Tee boxes are beat up. But I do enjoy playing here. Staff is very friendly and are very accommodating. I feel the price to play 18 with a cart is a little to expensive. But I choose to play here due to the close proximity to where I reside and how easy it is to get there.
Course improving
Norwood has put a lot of work into improving this course and it’s in much better condition than past years
Terrible place to golf
This course is in such poor condition. I remember playing only a year and a few months ago, and it was a lot of fun and not nearly as poor of an experience as I had today. There has been so much damage that has not been tended to and it shows. Almost makes you wonder if the grounds crew are volunteers, and if they’re not, they have the worlds greatest job. I’d go as far as to say this place is damaged beyond repair, and wouldn’t be surprised to see them close within a year without some serious time and money spent on improving the conditions. Fairways are bad, greens are okay at best, tee boxes are poor. Staff is nice, and doing the best they can with what they have, but a smile and a wave isn’t enough to justify spending $50 to play at this place.
Starter was quite rude
Asked for senior rate that was posted online and was told it didn’t exist. I was told everyone paid the same price
Fairways in rough shape
Greens not quite as bad but some came close
Current condition
The course has been flooded several times this year due to the excessive rainfall. Norwood Country Club is built on a swamp. Therefore, it floods, and frequently this summer. The Fairways are junk, the greens are all they have left as they succumb to crabgrass. It doesn't appear they are putting any effort at all into restoration and doing as much as they can before the seasonal change. After today, I wouldn't be surprised if N.C C. got sold to developers this winter.
Avoid
Gave this course a first time try. Flat, easy to walk, and that's the end of the positives.
Fairways - little if any grass. Heavy equipment tire marks on several holes. Mostly mud and caked ground. No roll, balls plugging in the middle of the "fairway". Open sprinkler heads in the greens. Sand traps not maintained and basically gravel. Left after 9. Pace of play awful. Ranger tried to do a good job pairing people up and keeping the flow going - not successful. Not to return.
Not Bad at all
I had to see for myself, the course was closed for 4 weeks due to the flood. They are giving out discounted rates as they work very hard on the fairways of holes that were flooded. The greens are awesome, tee boxes level and overall not too bad at all. Loved the staff, and the cold beer afterwards.
