Do not recommend
My family and I are newer golfers, more recently taking up the sport. We visited the Desoto country club a few times now never having any issues until today. We were on our 9th hole when our electric golf cart we’d rented died on us. It was about this time that one of the course staff members pulls up on his cart and says “we need to have a talk”. He went on to tell us that we’d been playing way too long and went over an apparent time limit, not mentioned anywhere beforehand. When we said it was because we’d been letting other golfers play through us, as we’re supposed to, he then said we’d been hitting too many balls. Enough to us equaling an 18 hole game. Definitely didn’t happen. Finally he tried blaming us for their golf cart battery going dead, when their carts are in poor shape. The lack of professionalism from this staff member and the degrading way he criticized his customers ensured we will never be returning there. I DO NOT recommend this course to anyone who is learning the game or who wants to enjoy the day with their family. Reading through the reviews, this isn’t the first time this has happened to people on this course I see. The other staff members were friendly, and the other golfers were good people, but this one individual ruins the course. Also, the straps that hold your golf clubs in the back of the carts come loose to where your clubs fall out. And the fairways are pretty rocky as well.
Underwhelmed
On the last hole one of the staff members interrupted our game to tell us we were taking to long. He continued to tell us we should only be hitting one ball of the tee box. I mean how is anyone supposed to learn if you can’t take extra shots? The driving range doesn’t compare to the real thing! We weren’t holding anyone else up from playing. We had a single person and a group of two catch us, we let both play through because we knew we were moving slow. This was in the middle of the day so I can’t imagine they were waiting on us so they could close. Then a man, claiming to be the owner, dressed in jeans and a pocket t-shirt, who is also the one who checks you in while smoking a cigarette, tells us we need to hurry up and leave. All because we argued our case with the other guy as to why it mattered if we took as long as we did. As for the course the greens were functional, the fairways were hard and dry, as if they were in desperate need of watering, and needed more grass, to many areas of just dirt and rock.
Will never play cottonwood again
This course was terrible. The fairways might as well be the rough, the bunkers were dirt patches with some grass trying to grow in them and the greens were impossible to put on.
ungolfable
This was the worst course I have ever been to in my whole entire life. Unputtable. Ungolfable. Old and deteriorated. Signs litter the club house which was locked during normal hours stating to call the greens keeper on his cell for service. The course should be shut down until they make the needed corrections. The fairways we're higher than most ruffs on any golf course. I played two holes of golf and lost six balls in the process. The crazy thing is is that I hit all the balls onto the fairway. That's whenever I gave up and wanted to get a refund. when I spoke to the manager he told me that the course had previously been shut down and they are trying to bring customers back after making renovations. The truth is is that they have got their work cut out for them. He told me they have been spending four years trying to revamp. Four years in my opinion is a long time. in any case dont waste your time. I would have given this No stars if the option was available.
Look like a cow pasture
Course should be closed. Having people pay for that is, there's not a bad enough word to use.
Green's unplayable grass 6 inches tall in fairways
Worst course in St. Louis area
I don't think i would even call this a golf course. Lost 3 balls in the fairway on the first 4 holes. If you like 4" high grass and dandelions in your fairway, this is your course.
Tough Sledding on the Rehab
I would first like to state that I hope the new owners make a go of it. The course is in really bad shape. The greens were so high that putting was not an option. The fairways' grass was so high that I lost 3 balls hitting right down the middle. The rough was....really rough!
This is a nine hole course that does have potential but under the current conditions, other courses are a much better value. If the new owners shape it up, I would be happy to go back and give it another try.
Course gets better every week!
Staff and new owners have improved the course and greens. Much better shape under the new owners.
