Great Value!
The course was great! Staff was very friendly! The burger was great! Most importantly the golf was great, course was in good shape. Definitely will be going back for another round.
Historic location
Great track, has some length for big hitters, as well as targets for finesse. 5 sets of tees make it friendly to all.
Rumor is the course is getting a new clubhouse for next season!
The course is beautiful now, should be even prettier as fall arrives.
Wow
Course was in outstanding shape. Fairways were full and plush. The greens were rolling very true and at a good speed. New cart paths throughout the course now. No gravel on the back nine.
Revamped
The course was in great shape almost no clover to be found, the cart paths have been revamped and spared no costs with concrete replacing the crumbling asphalt. Which should show their dedication to preserving this course for years to come. Its not a long course but the back 9 is definetly more challenging than the front, it's great older course and has a beautiful layout!
Great time!
Had a great time. Plenty of grass.
Great vistas, variety of shots. Some holes were challenging some were easy. Back nine was quite hilly. New cart paths with plans for a new clubhouse which is needed. Loved it!
First time.
First time playing this course got a hot deal from golfnow tee time was at 136 got there closer to 236 and they honored the tee time and the price which was awesome! The front 9 had me in love with this golf course. Beautiful course loved everything about it... Then the back nine began. Soooo many hills and valleys making for rough lies... Granted my golf game already isn't great, but hitting on all angled slopes it seems like had my wrists hurting by the end of the round after repeatedly hitting ground. This isn't a complete knock on the golf course themselves as myself will take majority of the blame for my talent at golf. As for me though I prefer minimal chances at killing the ground having to hit either up a crazy high slope or down the same reverse angled slope it's tough. Long course though that I enjoyed a day out on. Far from lees summit so probably won't play too often will just stop at winterstone instead.
Staff and players at this course are very friendly. A few very challenging fairways. Greens aren't particularly undulating, but have some steep slope and were hard for me to read. Greens were quick, but not glass. Played twice now and first round was better than average score and second round (next day) was a terrible score for me.
Ex Springs
Great Layout, greens in excellent condition, well maintained, had a great time.
Surprisingly fun
Automatically assumed to this course to be like everything else in the town of Excelsior Springs ran down beat up and trashed butt I gotta be honest with you I really enjoyed playing there. Staff is super friendly, greens were fast and in some of the best shape I've seen all year on any course in the area. They are undergoing some Renovations which will make the course top notch in my opinion, new cart paths bridges and such. Fairways were wide clean and very few blind shots as long add you stayed in the short stuff. I fully intend on making this one of my regular courses.
Great Older Course
This is a great older course. Fairways appear to be zoysia and well maintained. Greens are in great shape. Course has 4 tee boxes for 'Play It Forward' utilization. Be aware the locker room and bathrooms are terrible. A little hard to find in older part of city.
Best shape
I've played this course for about 5 years or so. I didn't play there at all last year and also avoided the Smithville courses because of the flooding that damaged all of them. This course has rebounded and more. Every fairway and green were in great shape. The rough was thick and tough but without having clumps of mowed grass. I think all of the cart paths on the front 9 were newly paved and it looks like they're doing some work on the ones on the back 9. The front nine starts and finishes with par 5's which I think is fun. One quirk of the layout puts both par 3's on both sides back to back. I really like this course.
