Shaggy

Course needs some TLC. I hear it’s a new management group that has taken over a short time back. I hope they can do it but this course needs a lot of work. Everyone on the course was extremely nice. The layout of the course is very odd. Had to go back and forth to get to the next Tee box. Sometimes crossing in front of another holes Tee box. Greens are SLOW!!!!!! Shaggy. Good luck!!

New ownership- doing a good job.

Since the course is under new ownership I gave it a pretty fair rating. The course needs a little work, but the landscape and scenery is amazing. I'm confident that they are going to make this place look great.
The staff was super friendly. They even provided bags and ice for the beer we purchased there.
I can't wait to come back and play again.

Early Season

course conditions were very good considering it was mid april. greens are in good shape but very slow. this place is beautiful! old forest all around, creeks and hills. cart paths wind through the woods. very cool. it was a little hard to navigate from hole to hole. they are redoing some signs so that will make it better. great patio area for lunch and a beer. slowly becoming my favorite course. its very tricky. gotta hit it straight off the tee or you are done.

New owners check them out

Early spring so course not up to it's potential but still nice layout and good mixture of challenges. Booked on golf now and was great deal. NOTE****** This is under new ownership I seriously suggest you give them chance they are gutting the whole clubhouse and rehabbing it. it is a not for profit course that allows military/fire fighters /first responders and police officers to play at no charge I believe check them out

Signage

The course was recently bought by new management & it needs better signage throughout. The holes weren't marked correctly & I nearly skipped 2 holes because there were no course maps available. However, I will play it again as it's a very nicely laid-out course & the owner advised me she was going to be putting up new signage to designate holes, where to drive on cart paths, etc.

Long way from rehabing this course

New ownership is well intentioned. I've been playing this course for years. Previous owners and the hot summers destroyed this course for a couple years and it is going to take at least a couple years to straighten it out. If they keep the prices low it will get played -but the pace will be horrible. It's a tough layout for an average golfer. Their in season weekend rate of $41 will keep me from going back for several years. the men and women in uniform get a small discount - not free as suggested by a previous review. If it's not for profit (doubtful) then keep the prices down until the course is fixed. They hadn't even blown twigs off the greens which are the worst I've rolled this winter. Don't expect a miracle overnight at this course. This place used to have the best burgers in their bar - now they can't even keep enough hot dogs on the roller table. Avoid the hype about the new owner, who as I said is friendly and well intentioned but probably in over her head.

Senic course that needs work.

The staff was very friendly. The course can be fun for both high and low handicap golfers. The course needs work, sand traps, tee boxes, and signage.

Course is in process of rehab.

This course has seen its better days. I haven't played here for several years. It was closed for several months and no maintenance was performed in the downtime. While it is under new ownership, it is in need of LOTS of work in the fairways, tees and greens. I played on the HOT List pricing $10/18 holes and can't complain, but to pay regular price this course will really need to step up the general maintenance of the course. The new owner is very enthusiastic and hopefully can restore this to a quality course in the next few years.

This coarse is in a great location.

This coarse is a good one with the location and how quiet it is. The only challenge was this time of year there is leaves all over the fairway and greens.

I love the 12th hole, up hill par 3 and 14, dog leg right (Water or weeds?)

This course has great potential. It still needs some TLC but the new management is working hard to get it in shape. I really like the Veterans theme they are planning and can't wait to see how it turns out. We play Deer Creek about once a week and can see improvements each time. High Five on the existing repairs and am looking forward to the new signs :-). FYI I love the 12th hole, up hill par 3.
Keep up the good work.
A proud Veteran

Cargo's and Cutoffs

By the looks of other golfers this is a place where people go to learn and wack'em around. No structure or marshall to push play. Came up on a 6 some with little to no experience who started an hour plus in front of us and we caught them on the 3rd hole.

With a little TLC this place could be very nice!

Not a bad course, but needs work

Deer Creek has some interesting holes, including some elevated tees and greens, but overall the course is just ok. The tee-boxes were terrible, just weedpatches. The fairways were pretty good in terms of the quality of lie you get if you put it in the fairway. The greens were in good shape overall, though there were some rough patches on some greens. Very shaggy greens that needed mowing when we went, but generally well manicured and consistent. The course layout is odd and poorly marked, and the cart-paths were as strangely designed as I've ever seen, often requiring you to walk 30+ yards from the green, back up the fairway, to get to your cart. Fairly inexpensive and pace of play was good on a weekend. Just ok. Course needs some work; under new ownership so hopefully it will improve. It is a fine course for an average or beginning golfer, and a good value.

Once a Great Jewel on the Decline

It is difficult to write a review on this course. Deer Creek used to be a really great place but it is operating on a shoestring now. The pool and tennis courts are not in operation and the golf course is really in rough shape. The clubhouse restroom reaked of raw sewage was just part of the poor quality.

There are missing signs on some of the holes. Arrows and numbers are spray painted on the cart paths to guide you in the right direction. Greens are half gone on some of the holes. Sandtraps have overgrowth or standing water. Fairways are decent but considering the great weather and the condition of other courses they are subpar.

I really like the layout of the course. Many of the holes are challenges and some of the pin placements make it tough. Many narrow fairways as well. It only cost 7.00 to play so that makes it hard to complain based on the price and I am not.

Deer Creek used to be a great place and could be again in the future but the lack of funds makes it a subpar course. Sugar Creek is up the road and is having the same difficulty. I want them to succeed but the only way I would return is with the great Hot Deal price.

This course was once a hidden treasure. New Management is working to revive the course by honoring military & first responders, with special discounts.

Currently, the driving range is closed, so your warmup will most likely have to be on the first tee. There's also no practice putting area. Once you find the first tee, you'll find this slightly hilly course has a difficult layout and finding your way from hole to hole might be callenging the first few times you play this course. There's a lack of signage pointing you to the next hole. I'm a civilian, who's played a few times out there recently with a veteran and he helped me to understand that, once you have completed your objective (reaching the last green), you're on to your next target (the next green). Military and first responders don't want to have to use tactics to get to the next hole; they just prefer signs; they just want to play golf!

You'll want to keep your ball in the fairways, which is do-able with plenty of open landing areas, but there are lots of trees, ponds, creeks and thick rough areas, where you can definitely get into trouble. If you slice or hook, just make sure you have plenty of balls in your bag. The wide fairways are in good shape but the greens are slow, which will most likely add to your score. Also, make sure you leave some snacks in your car, as there is little food to purchase in the clubhouse right now, but a hotdog just might hit the spot when you head back to the clubhouse from Hole #9 before you head out to #10.

I think the club, under this new management, has the right idea, to honor all military and first responders, who are the reason we golfers can enjoy the freedoms we do in this great country, USA! Whether we are having a good (or not so good) day on the golf course, I think if these military and first responders congregate at any one place, such as Deer Creek GC (who is trying to attract them to their course to honor them), there is always a sense of comradarie between them, no matter which branch they currently serve or have served. Being an avid golfer, playing 20 years now, I've played on military bases as a female civilian with SEALS, Chief-of-the-boat, Colonels, and other servicemen, but there's just that something in the air when these special forces are around. Deer Creek GC has a ways to go to improve the appearance of their course, playing conditions and clubhouse, but they definitely have the right idea. I hope you will show your support to this golf course, by bringing out one of these special people for a game of golf. I'm sure they all know the Rules of Engagement yet I believe this Game of Ettiquette will be a challenge for any special forces or civilians, who want to spend four hours doing maneuvers at Deer Creek GC!

For me, personally? My game isn't as good as it once was, but I'm going to enjoy just about any course I play, when I take the time to play golf. It's been a little more lately, and I usually play ok from the white tees, driving the ball 220-240. I'm constantly working on my game, like everyone else. GHIN Handicap use to be 12, but not playing enough, caused it to climb up there a bit. I hate that! But I especially enjoy the good shots! Aren't they wonderful? Makes it worth coming back, Ha! I find it easy to get over the not-so-good ones, I guess because I have some pretty solid mechanics that I fall back on alot. I'll leave you with a thought that helps me. When you step onto that first tee. Just REMEMBER! "Every shot is going to be a GREAT SHOT...except when it isn't. HaHa! Then you just say....Oh Well...The next one is going to be a GREAT SHOT!"

And REMEMBER one more thing! We're NOT Pros! We're just normal, every day civilians and...oh yeah...that other group of "very special people"!

About GOLFNOW.com.........I booked 2 tee times through GOLFNOW.com which is quite convenient (as long as you remember login and password...lol) and when we got to the course, they pulled up my name, we signed for the cart and we drove off into the sunset...oh I mean to the first tee box. What I love about GOLFNOW.com is that I can book a teetime any hour of the day or nite. I can see all the tee times that are available for a particular course, which gives me a lot of flexibility in scheduling my tee times. I know there are some courses that do not participate with GOLFNOW.com. They are missing the boat! I don't understand why EVERY public golf course does not use GOLFNOW.com to book tee times for golfers wanting to play their courses. It speeds up their point of sale process, which means their counter person can focus on other areas in the pro shop. Plus I rarely book any tee times that I can't find in GOLFNOW.com It's just too easy for me to go there when booking my tee times. Just saying!
