Fun course but some gripes
Overall an ok course. Tee boxes are really hard, I don't think they water them much. Was hard to get a tee in the ground. Fairways were either too dry or too soggy. They don't always bag the rough so there are grass clippings which make finding a ball hard. Club house needs some serious updating.
Hidden Gem has been discovered
I have played this course many times over the last decade. I always loved it because it did not have a big crowd, play was usually fast. Lately, it has been slower play, sometimes waiting 5-10 minutes for the group ahead to finish before I can tee off or hit my second/third shots. I used to be able to finish this course in about 4 hours but lately it has been 5 hours for 18 holes. The rough is almost impossible to find your ball. I lost at least 10 balls to the rough this last time
Very good golf
Great golf course that supports many handicaps, It is full of life and nature and a greatly maintained course.
Hodge Park
Enjoyed our round but the course holds a lot of water and we were restricted to cart paths only. I understand it was needed due to wet conditions but it made the round drag on forever. There also is a lot of ground under repair with new water mains going in, made for extra muddy conditions on at least 3 holes for me. Looking forward to seeing the improvements.
Mother's Day Round with my wife
Took my wife out for a round of golf for an early Mother's Day "gift". A bit windy but were partnered with a great couple of guys and the course was in great shape.
Starter an Embarrassment
My brother and I were in town from Michigan. We had played the course before, but were just going to hit the driving range because we didn’t make a tee time. I asked if there was room to play 9, and the pro shop said we could get right out. The starter was a jerk prior to teeing off, but whatever, didn’t think we would have to see him again. The course was wet, so it was cart path only. On the second hole, my brother pulled his drive to the far side of the first hole. I ended up crossing a small patch of rough, that wasn’t wet, and drove down cart path on 1 so he could play his shot. The starter drove all the way out to yell at us, about cart path only, even though I was on the cart path for 99% of the time. While he was being a jerk to us, we were on the cart path, he was parked on the grass, all the while other carts weren’t sticking to the cart path. There are “rules”, and there is common sense, which this guy had 0 of. So, we picked up, grabbed our refund, and the course lost out on hundreds of dollars from us ( additional merchandise, plus scheduled tee times for Friday-Saturday). I reiterate, where I left the path was the rough, at the most narrowest point to get to the corresponding cart path, and the cart didn’t even leave tire tracks. Needless to say, my family and I will never go back, but the guy in the shop was very pleasant and offered a full refund. Starter was an incredible jerk though. And I state “jerk” cause GolfNow will not allow for profanity
Pace of play
Would have been nice at time of arranging tee time to have been informed of the scheduled league play and its impact on our pace of play. Also the construction work underway on the course. . .
Early Spring 2021
The fairways are all zoysia, great in late spring but not so much early spring with al the wet weather. I was aiming for the rough as it had grass you kid hit off of. I love the course layout but I tend to lose more balls at this course compared to others. They are missing water coolers and ball washers due to the virus of 2020. I brought my own towel and spray bottle to keep my balls and clubs clean.
