Terrible conditions
There was no way to stop ball on the greens - even landing in front of green it still runs off. It is very clear that greens need water. Course layout is good, but conditions and pace of play makes me not want to play here again
Keeps Getting Better - Good Course for the Money
the course is a great value for what you pay and the conditions. It seems like the course conditions are continuing to improve. The biggest issue are there golf cart paths. So many potholes and tree root damage. Repave these and people will drive on the grass less and your golf cart maintenance costs will decrease exponentially.
Normandie
No sense putting a lot of money into a course that will be completely redesigned soon. But someone is cutting the fairways and greens and you sure cannot complain about the fees. And its a ten minute drive for most people in St Louis. Play history while you can.
This Course Builds Character
Me and my friends had low expectations coming into this round, but we could never have imagined what we experienced. Upon the view of the course from Olive Blvd, one of us claimed “should we just turn around and go play Ballwin?” Ballwin. This course was in such terrible condition, after a 30 minute haul there it made us think that turning around to drive another 40 minutes was worth it to play Ballwin. With unrewarding fairways and bunkers with no sand and full of water, a cart path that gives insight to what a level 6 earthquake would feel like, and unkempt tee boxes, this round was nothing less than miserable. With as many blind tee shots as there are, the audacity to leave the course in this condition is baffling, As we struggled to play the first 9, it took everything we had not to snap every club we own in half and light our bags on fire, and then jump in the fire. The only good takeaway from today is that we all overcame immense pain and frustration. I’d imagine playing this course is similar to what Marcus Luttrell experienced in the depths of the Middle East. The turmoil we experienced has definitely molded us into stronger, more resilient men. Needless to say, this course builds character.
We quit after 9 holes.
This course was in the worst condition I’ve ever seen a golf course. The teebox is like concrete. There are no fairways because it is the same as the rough. There is no sand in the bunkers. The greens were flat and well maintained but very slow. The staff were okay, but we didn’t have much of an interaction. The layout is very challenging on some occasions. We paid for 18 but only played nine.
Regrettable
Picked Normandie based on location and time available. Regretted it by the 5th hole. Already told friends I'll never go there again. Bad layout, bad conditions, and too much money.
No sand in sand traps, tee boxes that were so hard you couldn't put your tee in, and no water in ball washers.
Survey asked if this was my first time there. I'd like a box to check saying it was my LAST time there.
Old Girl needs a rest
I was a member at Normandie back when it was a private club so probably played 200 + rounds from 1972-1978. It has always been a superior layout and I wanted to play it one last time before they begin the renovation.
I didn't expect great conditions as we are in a drought in the area. Watering appears to be confined to greens (which were very good) I'm ok with recommending if one lowers their expectttations about conditioning, if for no other reason than the historical context.
Not in the best shape
To start off, the golf carts are awful. First one didn’t have a working parking brake. Switched carts after the first hole and the next cart was slower than if I walked. The 3rd one finally was better but the seat was all torn up.
The bunkers are completely filled with mud and water. The tee boxes are pretty much just dirt. The green on the other hand are actually really nice. The course had a bunch of chopped down trees on the sides so hope you don’t hit off any of the fairways.
Course played very long. Need another set off tee boxes up from the white but still behind the upfront tees.
All around bad
Was not granted a rain check on the back 9 due to daylight. Course is a mess, cart paths are even worse.
The price certainly reflected the quality. The greens were the only thing good about the upkeep of the course. Trees were down on every hole and wood chips and earth mover tracks were everywhere. The tee boxes were not marked and the cart paths were terribly maintained. The clubhouse is anything but one and the course is likely named after the beaches of Normandy as it appears a few grenades and bombs had went off on this course.
Ouch!
The worst course I have ever played on and I have played a lot of golf. First time on the course and was curious what it would be like to play on a course started in 1901. Big mistake! Even taking into consideration the time of year, the course was in terrible shape. Many muddy spots on the fairways, greens were not in repair, and massive potholes on the cart paths. Tee boxes were also brutal and not marked. Also too many blind shots with no way of seeing the group in front of you. I keep hearing renovations are on-going, but hopefully they don’t turn off too many golfers before that happens.
