Cheap cost
Front nine is great. Back nine might as well not be there. Terrible condition and shape.
needs work
pretty setting but the course is in rough shape. Looks like they are trying to redo a couple of the holes
fun place to play
I enjoyed going to this course it has a lot of neat holes
Fun Day
Easy course, but construction on the back 9 made for some poorly playing holes.
golf a ski area
If you can golf for 21.00 or less is a ok deal. Greens are like a waffle. Back 9 is through the ski area. A lot better places at the same price close by. Many golfers play the front 9 twice, forgetting the terrible back 9.
Great Potential
The course has a lot of construction taking place. Numerous holes on the back 9 in very poor shape. All the greens are very rough, some caused by the cold winter and some from abuse. Great views and very hospitable staff.
Disapointed
Fairways are less than in fair condition. Some areas have track from snow grooming machines that have not been serviced. Greens are extremely bumpy. Redo of holes 12 and 13 is poor with nothing but wasteland between tee and green on 12.
Course in desparate need of seeding.
Overall Solid, but nothing flashy
Played a quick 9 hole round on a Sunday morning. Their back 9 was closed at the time for ski resort improvements. Overall the course is in decent shape. The greens are down a step from nicer courses, and its difficulty isn't that high either, but for a beginner, intermediate, or someone looking to add another round to their week at a decent price, I would recommend Afton. Maybe not first, but I'll be back.
Would Play Here Again
I played the front 9 as a single on a weekday afternoon and finished in about 1.5 hours, which included playing 2 tee shots all the way to the hole. The course is very nicely maintained and is in a beautiful location near Afton Alps ski area. Only the front 9 was open so my comments are based on that. This couse is geared to the mid-high handicapper. After an interesting opening hole near the ski lift most holes are pretty wide open. There is enough challenge (doglegs, water) to keep it interesting. Only complaint is that many of the greens were pretty small. I'd recommend this as a good course to work on your game.
Family Friendly course. Great customer service. Great views on the back nine.
I love this course and play it whenever I get a chance. Great customer service, as always, and some challenging holes too!
Very nice front 9. Great value.
Found a super $14 deal, 18 holes with cart, to try Afton for the 1st time. The front 9 was fairly flat, open, well manicured and fun to play. I was impressed. The back 9 is super hilly and challenging with some very unusual holes; it felt like it was crammed onto the ski slopes to try to make another 9 holes. I didn't care for the back 9 at all. For $14 though it was still a super value; I'd play there again, especially the front 9.
tough course
The back nine was incredible. I would return anytime.
Fun and affordable...what more could you want?
The rains have made this course the lushest I have seen it! It played all of its length because the fairways were still pretty soft, but the greens held really well.
The front nine is pretty basic and let's you air it out a little to get your game loosened for the back nine. The back nine has you going through the ski runs and is as challenging (holes 11-18) as any nine you will find. Hole 10 is like an anomaly for the rest of the nine. It is a fun course and the price is right!
This course has great views and challenges
This course is very well taken care of and kept very clean.
unusual to say the least
Afton Alps really short original 9 (now the back 9) was built on a working ski resort & its holes play down & across existing ski runs & under permanent lift wires...it's a funky 9 to say the least...a cheat sheet is available in the shop & is a definite must-have...do what it says & you'll have fun...I think you have about 15 yards beyond the layup # but you will struggle if you don't hit it the recommended distance... the front 9 is longer (but still short) & much more conventional, but it is built on rolling ground that dips & turns enough to make it no pushover...I first played Oct 8th on a howling day & with the grass desicated from lack of rain...the fairways & greens were firm-n-fast & my initial impression (especially after struggling through the back 9) was that this is not a course for someone who goes ballistic if he doesn't get the results he thinks his shots deserve...I dragged a friend kicking & screaming to play on the 22nd, & in the interim enough rain had fallen to perk up the grass & make the greens more managable...he loved the fact that he could hit so many wedges into greens & was cool-headed enough to see the charm & challenge of the back 9...the lift chairs & snow makers were deployed by then, adding to its distinctiveness...Afton Alps is a must-play for its uniqueness but I wouldn't pay full price to check it out...yea GolfNow!
Something different
Front Nine fun and easy, back nine has a lot of confusing blind shots. Get a cheat sheet from the club house. They forgot to give me one.
