Great local 9 hole course
Been playing here for years. Hopefully the “eminent domain” issue is resloved and stays as is
Ranger stalks you at every hole - very spooky dude.
I’ve never played at a Golf course where the Ranger is constantly disturbing your game. This is the most horrible experience in my 17 years of Golf tenure.
I Love this place
Peninsula is a fun place to play 9 holes. It is easy to make a reservation, it is a full-size 9-hole course, it is not full of serious golfers who frown at playing with us hackers, etc. The staff is friendly, the course is kept very nicely, and I always get paired with people that are fun to share the round with.
Penn
This year they took away the cart included feature. It’s a bit more costly now but well worth it.
Rainout
Played 1 hole and got rained out found out that golf now doesn’t refund hot deals after starting the round so….I’m done with golf now…forever
Bottom line: If you're local and looking for an inexpensive, no frills, short track to play 9, this is your place.
TLDR: Peninsula is great for what it is.
Layout: The layout is not overly complex, but they do a good job routing the holes given the space constraints. Green to teebox is tight, as the holes are relatively on top of each other. The fairways are tree lined providing some protection from errant shots. There is no water on the course, which is ironic given it's name. Your biggest challenge is off the tee. The course is too short for driver on several tees if you drive 260+. My playing partner and I ended up blocked out on our approach a few times for mildly offline tee shots. We did get to use a fair number of clubs in the bag, so that was fun. If you're long, there is a risk/reward element. Without water, the biggest risk is again being blocked out by errant shots. Also, greens are guarded by bunkers that aren't overly intimidating, but the poor sand quality limits your options, thus they're a worthy foe.
Condition: As mentioned, the bunkers were caky (not great). The fairways were tightly mowed and healthy. Divot repair was top notch. The rough was pretty much a non-factor unless your ball nestled into an odd crevice. The greens roll true with a fair amount of break and were a lot of fun. They run moderate-to-slow.
Amenities: The carts are older and not great (no GPS, not electric, very dated). The pro shop barely has the essentials, but if you forgot balls, or tees (which I did forget), they have you covered. Golf charges are credit/debit card only, and the pro shop is cash only, which is odd. There are some tables to sit. I didn't investigate the food/drink scene, but you it doesn't seem like a place you'd want to hang out for too long after your round.
Summary: If you're nearby, looking for a fun round, and don't want to break the bank, this is a good track. If you have more budget, prefer a more challenging/scenic course, or want a place that has excellent amenities, loko elsewhere. The course itself is gettable, fair, and right in front of you. I had several birdie looks on my 9. I only converted one, but I digress.
