American golf should let this course go
Continuous predictable slow rounds due
to two reasons that ruin golf for anyone that plays here especially on weekends.first is the golfers that play there play like they are on tv.
They don't know how to keep the pace moving. Second there is no one aka a ranger
To move the slow groups and there are always multiple groups with entire holes open in front of them while the rest of course has three groups on a hole. Go to NJ better conditions better value. No contingent of clueless players like at latourette with no rangers.
A bit far, but worth the effort to get to
One of the nicer NY public courses. Worth the trip.
14 people teed off within 5 minutes of my tee time
I went to this course, which does not offer a 9 hole rate when it’s close to sundown (which is already irksome) but my buddy and I play fast and can get a smooth 18 done in 2 and a half hours, sometimes faster.
Well, we booked a tee time for 4:30, the tee times at the course are 9 minutes apart. We arrived in the tee box at 4:27 and proceeded to watch a foursome of walkers, then a threesome, then another foursome, then a second threesome all tee off before us, creating a massive traffic jam on the course. We teed off finally at 4:45. When we asked about how or why this is was happening we were ignored. The front 9 proceeded to take 2 hours and 45 minutes, no rangers out to maintain pace of play. We were left with 35 minutes until sunset. Luckily, the back 9 was open and we got to about 16, and as we were walking to the tee box we were told to come in. I asked if we could finish the 140 yard par 3 as he checked the back 9 for other golfers and he responded no and lectured us about the time the carts were supposed to come in.
I asked for a rain check for at least 9, and was dismissed. Even after explaining the delays we encountered due to their irresponsible scheduling and booking.
This course is so poorly kept. There are divots everywhere. The tee boxes are garbage, basically dirt. The rough is thick and uneven, barely cut. They charge full price during aeration and there is never a cart girl, ever. They charge more than all the other courses in the Staten Island/NJ/Brooklyn area and do NOTHING to enhance the experience or maintain the course. It is effectively throwing money down the drain. Most of the times there’s more dirt and rock around the rough areas than there is grass. What are we paying for?!
Have been playing this course for over 30 years as it’s my local course. If they would spend any money at all on upkeep and enhancements it could truly be a gem. Also please enforce a dress code. Tank tops and gym shorts just horrible
Course Desperately In Need of Care & Repair
Fairways are burnt mostly due to little rain and lack of watering. Tee boxes were mostly bare from overplay and course management’s failure to properly maintain. Some sand traps were literally small ponds and strewn with actual geese and geese droppings. Many of the cart paths were missing large pieces of asphalt. Course management needs to get on the ball. This was once a wonderfully maintained course. Definitely not worth the $55 to $70 greens fee being charged.
Used to be in great shape
Been going for a while, course needs major TLC. Cart paths are horrible, carts are bad, parking lot is terrible, course was decent but still also needs a lot of TLC. When we went T boxes and traps were swarming with cicada killers and had lots of wear and tear. Too many negatives for the price. Golf staff was great and considering it’s a public course I can’t give it a bad rating, just needs attention.
Overrun with sand hornets
This course used to be pretty good until it got overrun with sand hornets. Tee boxes and greens are destroyed and for the price they charge it shouldn’t have those issues
Overall, a good beginner course
First the bad: 1) tee boxes are in bad shop from overuse. 2) cicada killers are everywhere. 3) pace of play - no one to ‘govern’ the slow pokes. 4) practice range leaves little to be desired and no matts
The good: 1) greens were in pretty good shape 2) cart beverage person was actively doing rounds. 3) it’s still wide open
Too expensive for a bad course
The staff was nice and friendly (to be expected) but the course was not taken care of and multiple holes had too many wasps to not have a wasp issue. I understand that there are reasonable amounts of bugs and wildlife, that is what you get when you play a sport in the woods but to have to miss two tee offs because both the mens and womens tee boxes were infested with wasps is not the route to go. Roughly $75 for a round and only got to play a full 16 holes
4th July weekend
Not so packed course in good condition definitely a challenge
