Greens look good... But that's about it
The greens were looking, and rolling good. Looks like they have done a lot of work getting them smoothed out and ready for spring. They are filling in nicely!
But the fairway... Holy crabgrass lol. Some of the fairways didn't even look like they've been cut in awhile. You could barely tell the difference between the fairway and the rough. What's worse is that even if you were in the middle of the fairway, you might still need to hit out of a thick patch of crab, or a bare lie. Not sure what happened, but they need a little work!
Other than that, it's not a bad course got the money. But you will get what you pay for.
Wide open course
A good little course. Wide open. The greens have been aerated, but I feel like they could make them a little smoother by adding some sand to the holes on the green . Putting was difficult. They need to control The dandelion better.
Beware, fairways are horrible shape right now.
Just a heads up for those of you looking to play Royal Meadows. The fairways on both the front and back nine are currently in horrible shape, i.e., dirt condition. You are not even allowed to drive in the fairways on the front nine. I really think Royal Meadows should post these conditions on their webpage or something because it definitely is not worth paying full price to play here at the moment.
Note: Royal Meadows is typically is very nice course and fun to play, but I will not be returning until next season once the fairways have recovered and are fully repaired. But not worth it at the moment.
Bad but getting better
I have played here before and had a good experience. I wish i would have known they were upgrading the fairways to a different grass i would have played somewhere else. But all that said it was not terrible but i can see it getting better
Nice place to play
The staff was great. They let us know that they were re-sending the front nine and that's why it looked so bad. It was my first time playing the course and I would play it again! It nice and forgiving, some courses have a lot of tall grass ruffs not this place nice and open! Great time we had a blast!
Worst experience of year.
Course had completely lost their bent grass fairwarys. Literally no live grass other than clumps of weeds in fairways. We're the fourth group off in morning. First two groups playing a scramble. Played front in hour and a half. Back nine took three hours due to slow play of first two groups on course. No marshalls on course. Miserable.
This course is in terrible condition.
My advice is play somewhere else. There is no grass in the fairways and the greens are really rough. This is the worst course in the city but at least they charge the full rate lol!
Course is in real bad condition
It's under major repair. Winter rules are in effect. There was standing water all over the fairways and many bare spots/mud holes on the fairway and around the green
this course is in sad shape
this course is in sorry shape!!!!! I can understand redoing fairways but there are no fairways here just dirt. Of course they say nothing about the fairways until after your showup to play. the greens were not much better needing cut but rolled also. the greens were so lumpy it felt like winter. Avoid this place as it isn't worth $10 to play
No grass on fairways
Great staff. Friendly people. The problem is that the course is in really bad shape. maybe the weather or its diseased. The fairways are dirt and crabgrass. It was tough. We expected more from the reviews we received. We'll try it again next year. We attached a picture of the 18th fairway. Most of the course was like that.
Awful
Greens look like they have never been rolled, they are dead and bumpy and long. The fairways are mostly dirt, and where there is grass, it doesn't look like a fairway at all. We played a twilight tee time and at the end of our 9 holes on hole 9 at 8:40, a worker came out while we were driving up to our tee shots in the fairway and he told us the course was closed and that we were done. He then continued to go up to the green we were going at and took the flag out. I've never experienced such behavior in all of my years golfing, and the course was one of the worse maintained courses I have played in years.
Goat ranch
This course is in Terrible condition. Fairways are burned out filled with weeds. Greens have not been rolled smooth in a long while. Bunkers are mostly dirt. Saw the drink cart once in 18 holes.
Nice afternoon
Fun layout..Couple of things..Why are the tee boxes so hard, with all the rain, putting a tee in the ground is like hammering into concrete..and speed up the greens a little...but enjoy the course..Their can never be enough emphasis on speed of play..need marshall's on course
Good Value
I really like the redesign of this course. It's not super long, even from the tips. But the greens are usually rolling pretty good and there are a few places you can get in trouble off the tee. There are good tee time deals if you look for them as well. I think it's a good value and always enjoy my rounds there.
RoyalReview
Pretty good course, really Bakke up for a bit though.
A Round at Royal Meadows
Greated by friendly staff. The fairways were in great shape. The greens were sandy due to the recent areation. The green undulation did create some challenges. Due to the yardage, this course would be a great challenge for the older average golfer. I had an enjoyable round and will play there again.
Used to be my favorite easy course
Wow has this place gone downhill. Used to be one of my favorite places to play. Close to work, open layout and easy for the mid to high handicappers. We played there yesterday and it was in terrible shape. At a time of year when other courses are I top shape greening up nicely there wasn't a spec of live grass in any tee box. Some if them had so much sand spread on the it was like teeing in a bunker. So bad I refused to tee off on two of them and used the grass to the side. Some were so chewed up with divots over the entire box so bad there was no place to stand where your foot was not in a divot.
The fairways were so spotty it was easy to hit a drive and be hitting off bare dirt or crabgrass. The rough was also extremely spotty and clumpy. You ball a lot of times would come to rest in a bare spot with a clump of grass behind and in front of so you could not even make decent contact. It got so bad we decided to just do lift and place.
The dandelions are out of control as well.
There was one Marshall but we saw him only one time. A group of four were allowed to play with one set of clubs for the entire group. It was teenagers who drove right up to the green and sand trap on a par three. Unfortunately we never saw a Marshall to let them know.
Fun day out.
A great day on the course. It was busy but we never had to wait too long to hit or tee off. A good pave for rhe day. Overall course conditions were very good, green in great shape running faat.
Royal Meadows
I played Royal Meadows yesterday. I had never played there before. The pace of play was a little slow and their was not a lot of difficulty on this course. It would be a good course for the locals to work on their game to prepare for a more challenging course later.
Great Course-Slow Play
Played 18 with 3 buddies on what was probably one of nicest Saturdays of the year. I had never played Royal Meadows and I enjoy trying out new courses. The course was very well kept and the staff was friendly. It seemed like they may have overbooked because we were backed up from the first tee box on. Other than the slow pace of play, I had no complaints. I plan to play here again, hopefully on a less crowded day.
