Thank you to the men and women who protect us everyday. You deserve the best!
Great conditions and friendly staff
Once the new club house has opened and the practice facility opens back up this will be a top public course in the area.
Pay too much for cart
I and my friends have to pay $91 each for a round (of course weekend) at a federal course. The receipt said riding itself costs $18/person/round. It means each cart they earn $36 OMG. I love walking, but the course gives me no chance because it is too hilly and the distances between holes are far. The course should share with the players, instead of charging too much.
Everything else is good, except closing green practice and driving range. The proshop is under construction so we start at 5, finish at 4. That changes your game a lot. And the fairways are unnecessarily narrow. I gave not high * because of the value we pay for.
Great time in West Point
It is a course that is fun to play with lot of hills and bunkers, along with large greens that are very hard to read. The course was in excellent condition and the staff was very friendly. The club house is under construction right now, so if you just want to have a great game without spending time at the bar after game, this is the place to go (you can find several places to eat/drink after game nearby). We will definitely go back here and have more fun !
Best Public Course in NY after Bethpage Black
I have been driving across the country, playing the best courses along the way, as rated by Golf Digest. According to Golf Digest, the best public course in NY is Bethpage Black, followed by Atunyote at the Turning Stone Resort. West Point is not ranked at all. Well, I'm sorry Golf Digest, but you just do not have a clue what you are talking about. West Point is far, far, far superior to Atunyote. The West Point fairways are perfect; the greens are serious, the elevation changes are daunting, and the lay-out is exciting. Unfortunately, Golf Digest puts way too much emphasis on the clubhouse. The West Point Club house is under constructions but the ski lodge is a cozy, homey and somewhat rundown temporary affair that provides great food at reasonable prices, but do not expect table service. (They are building a new club house) The course might be too short for the professionals, but for ordinary folk, 6,000 yards from the tips on this course is plenty. I normally like 6300 yards, but played from 5800 at West Point and I did not reach any par 5 in two strokes. Who knows: you might find yourself playing with a general.
One big drawback was the beverage cart service. Packed course but the beverage cart sighting was very sporadic, if not nonexistent. There was a place to purchase hotdogs and beer on hole 11, though the girls working it seemed to be preoccupied on their phones than selling us anything. They seemed bored to say the least. Oh well their loss on sales and a tip.
To leave on a more positive not, great course.
Pleasantly surprised
This course is in better shape today than at any point in the last 10+ years. Greens rolled true, all green side areas (fringe, primary rough) were in great shape.
Great course!
A great challenge….don’t let the yardage fool you!
Great course in transition
It looks like they have a temporary clubhouse.
The course was in OK shape, but the staff were great and extremely accommodating.
The West Point Golf Course is a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley
This course is in incredible shape. Their greens are one of the best I have ever played on and lightning fast. The condition of the course is phenomenal, and my pals and I were not disappointed. The only drawback is there was no beverage cart and the food place located on the back 9, was pretty lacking for the prestige of this course. They made up for this in the lodge where our meals were mouthwatering.
ALL and ALL, A FANTASTIC COURSE AND WELL WORTH THE DRIVE!!!
