Probably should bring.your own grass.
Course is in such a bad state with terrible fairways, sand greens, and artificial mats on one of the tee boxes, I wouldn't recommend going here for any more than 20$.
Dont bother
Please dont let the location and affordability of this golf course convince you to play. The pace of plays the worst I've seen ever in my life . The T-sheet was supposedly wide-open on the golf now app for that Monday I show up 30 minutes before my tee time to find out I have been paired but I could go early if I wanted to so I went early first two holes were great then I got behind three singles they were not made to play together and an entire golf outing in front of them.
Fairways/Tee Boxes = Rough Shape
I grew up playing Lochmere, and it’ll always have a soft spot for me, but I played it for the first time in quite a while this weekend and the tee boxes/fairways were in REALLY bad shape. I probably won’t play it again this season unless I hear that it’s dramatically improved.
Staff was great as always, the price was reasonable and I still had a great time…but the course conditions were disappointing.
Don't Play Here After It Rains
The course is completely flat and much water runs through it, so the drainage is terrible...standing water, soggy fairways, and with the grass still dormant, fairways were a mess and had no role. The greens were is good shape however, and the sand bunkers had been freshly raked smooth. Once the course has a chance to dry out, it should play better.
Waste of money
I cannot recommend this course. It is always a soggy mess, which is a shame because it’s in a great location. I’ve played there 3 times, always wet, cartpath-only, and I wouldn’t consider the staff very friendly.
Yesterday, we enjoyed our cart dying on us on number 14, which made it even more frustrating. We had to wait 15 min to get a new cart.
There are much better choices in the area.
Picturesque
Lochmere is a very picturesque golf course. I live all the challenging water features. It's a great location and a great value.
Good value
I like Lochmere. Challenging but not overly difficult. Course is in low lying area, so had to do cart path only, despite no rain for several days. Greens in great shape.
Wet course
After heavy overnight rain, the course was very wet, and, of course, cart path only. When I arrived at the course the other players either had already teed off, or had not yet arrived. I was given the option to wait for the other players, or just go out by myself as the course was almost empty. I went out by myself and finished in under 3 hours. It was very nice to be given this option. Thanks
Wet field condition even after several sunny days.
I like to play the Lochmere golf because it's a nice little golf not too far from our house in Apex. The winter condition are pretty tough at this course since there it's drains very poorly. Although the greens where nice, the fairways are in rough shape and muddy in many location. I recommend walking this course. If you take a golf cart, make sure you have a partner to share it with otherwise they will try to force you to share your cart with a stranger that plays on your tee-time... I complained and they let me drive my cart alone last week but that was a big surprise that they would even consider forcing me to share a kart with a stranger with COVID still around.
Forcing singles to share carts with strangers is irresponsible
Hated that I had to give up my cart and share another person's. Covid is still raging and to put together 2 unknown in close proximity for several hours ( 5 hours actually) is irresponsible. Pace of play was really slow due unusually higher number of walkers - who probably decided against the cart option for the same reason. It does not make sense as there were a huge number of carts available. This is a show stopper for me. I never want to share cart again and there never will play at Lochmere again.
Sharing carts with strangers ???
Was there today. Hated that I had to give up my cart and share another person's. Wet, and fairways/tee boxes poor condition
Very wet, had a cartpath only rule for the cart. Poor fairways and tee box conditions, nice greens is the best I can say. Won’t play here again unless drastic improvements are made
Wear waterproof shoes within 3 days after it rains
Great layout and range. Course doesn't drain well and fairways can be soaked days after it rains.
Unprofessional staff
Overall everything was fine. It was stacked up when we got there. It was cart path only so the pace of play was slow. We drove the cart down to the starter and handed him our receipt. He let us know it would be a few minutes before we teed off and suggested we practice putting or chipping in the practice area behind us. We turned the cart around and drove back to the practice area, pulling the cart off the path to let others go by. The area was dry where I parked. A few minutes later the ranger drove up YELLING “cart path only” and got in our cart and moved it. I apologized and told him I forgot. He kept running his mouth, I apologized again. As he drove off he yelled all four tires on the path from now on with a serious attitude. All he needed to say was “sir, its cart path only today, please keep all four tires on the path” when I apologized he should have said. It’s fine, enjoy your round. Here’s the irony...when we got to the first green...the starter drove up to the guy they paired us with and told him to take a few clubs with him when he’s walking out to his ball so that he doesn’t have to go back to the cart for a different one. He then turned his cart around in the wet fairway near the apron on the first green. Hilarious!
Course is a soggy mess
This is a course with great potential if they can ever find a way to redo the drainage. Fairways are incapable of drying out after even the slightest rainstorms. It has been a soggy mess for years and that ruins what can be a fun round of golf every time.
