Could be on my Rotation.
I was greeted immediately by that staff with the golf cart. He was extremely pleasant and gave me directions to the chipping and putting area (no driving range available). The gentleman behind the counter in the pro shop could learn from the man who helped me outside.
The course:
The greens are fantastic. Extremely fast, however, they rolled true and that is what you want as an average golfer.
The fairways are in terrible shape. Our group agreed to allow movement of 6" to place on grass if the ball landed where the "fairway" was suppose to be.
The rough area was not unbearable as several good recovery shots were made out of these conditions.
The layout (6300 yards from the white tee's) is fun to play as you have to place the ball. The hard dog legs did not require a 250+ yard drive to make the green reachable for the 2nd shot.
This could be an awesome course if the fairways and tee boxes were aerated and over sown with a winter rye grass until the Bermuda grew in.
I'll probably play the course in late summer to see if the fairways improve. Unfortunately, at this time, I can not recommend Larkhaven.
OK Round
Greens were in really good shape. Fairways needed some serious work. Overall ok for the price. Wasn't mad considering the rate.
Larkhaven Golf Club
This was my first visit to Larkhaven in several years, and will probably be my last for several more. First, the check-in and snack bar staff were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to overcome the course conditions. The layout of Larkhaven isn't bad at all. There are a wide variety of holes, from long flat par 5's to 90° dogleg par 4's to long downhill par 3's over water. No two holes are the same, and there's even a semi-biarritz green on #2. The first hole isn't the best starting hole, as it's peculiar design makes for an interesting start to the round. The course conditions were the real downer for me, however. I know we haven't had much rain lately, but the course didn't look like it had had any water in months. Fairways and tees were part grass, part dirt. The greens were absolute concrete. Wedges and pitch shots would land on the first third of most greens and roll all the way off the back or sides. Greenside bunkers were mostly sand, but fairway bunkers were more dirt than sand. Can not recommend this course until conditions improve drastically.
Tee time? What tee time
These people need to better manage their tee times I shouldn't have to wait 45 minutes to tee off when I set a tee time. Also they should better plan out there days around "tournaments". I did not appreciate being told oh I know it's your tee time but there are 2 groups of 4 walkers ahead of you waiting to tee off. The course was in poor shape and the design was poor.
Course needs work.
Greens were in average condition, but fairways were terrible, burnt up grass and sand mostly. Ranger didn't do anything for pace of play, took over 5hrs for 18. Probably won't go back until I know the grass has received work.
Bad
Course was in terrible condition but I'm sure it's in great shape in the spring fairways were straw
Unforgiving greens
We played behind a group of 5 and asked about if that was allowed in the pro shop at the turn, and the answer was no. That said nothing was done. Greens were impossible so fast you had trouble on putts of any length. One of my playing partners hit a wedge into the center of 18 green it rolled off into the water. If you hit good shots you are penalized. One thing that this course was missing was a clowns mouth and windmills for the greens. They advertise green fairways year round, guess brown is the new green. The layout is confusing to figure ouut.
Always Packed
Larkhaven crams a crazy amount of golfers in per day and makes little attempt to get them through the course in a timely manner. We had a 11:44 tee time and did not finish golfing until 5:30. Had to wait for every tee shot, second shot, and backed up at the next tee box. The workers will brag about their greens which are in good condition they just play extremely fast and make for a difficult day of putting. We will not be returning, I would rather pay $10 more and play a course where people know how to keep it moving!
Friendly course
Great atmosphere and course layout. Pretty busy day, but pace of play was very good.
not great
Starter let two groups go ahead of us until we realized what happened. Play was slow and course was in miserable shape compared to what a 4 star review typically consists of.
Great shape
Over seeded rye fairways were perfectly conditioned. Greens in great shape but a little on the slow side of pace for my liking... Was nice to play a green course after playing dormant Bermuda fairways all winter. Was $28 to ride 18 on a Friday before 9am... What a great deal...
traditional course
Very nice green complexes. Players can expect great lies especially around the greens. Golf course in great shape. Some tight tree lined holes that allow for some challenging tee shots. A fun traditional type course that is very enjoyable to play.
Great shape
The course is great shape with overseeded fairways. The greens are good. The best-conditioned course in the Charlotte area this time of the year.
Great Winter Course For Price
Great Value, Greens Medium speed but roll true, Very Tight Fairways, Great ball striker course.
Only bad thing, no range, I like to warm up for an hour before I play, but that is the only reason its not 5 stars. Will play here 3-4 times a month.
the fairways are green and in real good shape just like the greens
was in great shape eventhough we had to waite out the frozen ground we had a ice storm the day before but had a good time played poorly but found 2 new golf buds
