Absolute Robbery
Had the chance to play the course for the first time as a visitor from the northeast. I thought the price was a little steep ($150/person), but it was a Saturday morning so I sucked it up. Having played the course now, I wouldn’t have paid half that. The pro shop, bar, range and snack shop are clearly where all the money goes. The course was in horrendous shape. Every single bunker on the course was washed out to the point that they were unplayable. My understanding is a storm rolled through a few days prior, but you would think a place like that could handle some rain better. Is it unplayable after every storm? And further, couldn’t they have mentioned that before I spent $150 to play? As if that wasn’t bad enough, the tee boxes were mangy and not well kept, and as we got to the last few holes the greens were entirely burnt out. In March! Hardly any grass on the final few greens. To top it off the signature island/peninsula par 3 17th bridge was broken, so carts had to go the long way around, backing up the course just before you were at its merciful finish. Will not be back and have already told friends visiting to find any other option.
South Course
I’m glad I found a hot deal for me on a Friday afternoon for under $60 here. Nice course but can’t see playing $100-$135 to play it which is often what they charge. Course maintenance needs to be better for them to charge that.
I’m sure once Spring gets here it will return to the course I really liked.
Definitely will be back for the right price.
Needs a lot of work and reduced prices.
My buddy and I play at least 2-3 times a week throughout the Houston area. We travel to all different tracks to get the best out of Houston golf. BlackHorse has always been on the top of the list because of the great course conditions and decent twilight rates.
Yesterday, we played the south course at 2:30. Holes 12-18 were in awful shape, almost un-puttable. I understand every course has ups and downs, but we paid $108 EACH to play something that shouldn’t have been over $50.
It’s disappointing that other courses in the HTX area will adjust rates as the course conditions change, but blackhorse seems to charge full rates regardless.
I will not be back until I see prices change or course conditions reflect $100 prices.
Greens need work
A beautiful course and it don't come cheap. Was a bit disappointed with some of the greens that was un puttable towards the last 4 holes.
Great layout and challenge
Played the south course and was delayed a bit for the frost. First time playing here and I have to say it is one of the most enjoyable layouts in Houston. The fairways are oak lined which sets up your shots very well. Greens were in great shape along with the fairways.
Any conditions complaint you see is focused around dense tree areas where they haven’t trimmed the limbs to get enough air flow and light so don’t let that shy you away.
Too many on the course
Not sure what happened, pace of play is normally good at this course. This particular round after 4hrs and 45 mins we were only able to get in 17 holes. Course was in good shape, greens were great for this time of year. Staff and amenities are always great.
Must play
Other than the weather being rainy for first 9 holes it was a good day of golf. Course in good shape, staff was great , well kept course all around!
Great and course but little bit expensive
Great and course but little bit expensive course. Some times it smells quite a lot due to bad sewage, especially on back 9 holes.
Put in a 5some and took 5 hours 20 min
Golf course is terribly unorganized. They have way too many people booked and mix in with tournaments. We were forced to play with a member and then paired with 2 others. 5 golfers is no good. It was terribly slow.
The Summer heat is Gone
Great course, unfurtunately there was a tournament going and the pace of play was slow...Almost 6 hours to the round. I wish next time GolNow will let us know about these events
