Solid
On a perfect bright sunny day it was difficult. To locate the ball even when in the fairway,
Leaves glistening so everything looked like a ball.
Off the fairway the rough was a little much.. how about a first cut before the high rough. Just a suggestion.
But everything else was top notch.
Rutgers never disappoints
Rutgers GC is holding up well
Did my graduate work at Rutgers in the 80s and played here a lot. Had a day off so I decided to play the old course. Much the way I remember it except my approach shots are starting 25+ yards further back. The course is short by modern standards but you need to play strategically and not just bomb it. There is a lot more movement to the greens than I remember. 3-putts are a real possibility if your ball ends up on the wrong side of the hole. Conditions were better than most with the bunkers being in stand-out condition.
Rutgers GC 05Oct23
I did my undergrad and graduate studies at Rutgers and played it a lot as a student. I couldn't remember the last time I teed it up here so I booked a tee-time through GolfNow. I'm glad I did. Its been 40 years since my school days but Rutgers GC has withstood the test of time. I may not be able to drive the 1st green anymore but there is still plenty of challenge to go around, especially if you spray it here. Most holes are pretty gettable even with a fairway metal off the tee. That hardly diminished the fun or enjoyment of playing here again. The greens were running fast and true. I was reminded about some of the server slopes on the greens by being on the wrong side of the hole. Still having to go to school here but lots of fun! I will have to make it a point to play here more often.
As expected
Conditions at Rutgers are always good.
Bunkers can use a little work. Packed down hard sand in many.
Pace of play was not great. Our 4 some behind 4 walkers.. 4.30 to play 18
Great course!
I felt the course was in great shape. It would be nice if people would repair their ball marks on the greens though
Nice track
The course is in great shape from tee boxes to greens which were perfect to putt. As usual pace of play is something the course emphasizes and with cart it's a max of 4 hours. In addition to course there is a nice practice area with a chipping green with bunker as wel, separate putting green and a driving range. It represents great value, is s fun fair course, nice variety of holes, keep the ball in the fairways and you can score.
Great course, good rate.
I like this course layout. The greens were all excellent. The 10 tee box was mostly dirt but that sometimes happens. Overall, this course is among my favorites.
Great facility! VERY (too?) big emphasis on pace
Overall, really enjoyed the visit here, despite it being cut short by incoming storms.
As someone who often plays with new golfers, I look for beginner-friendly facilities. Layout-wise, this fits the bill! Good challenges with strategic decisions, stream layups, sand, etc. - but still lots of space to work with, and forgiveness for topped drives, for the most part,
I also greatly support and admire places that emphasize pace of play. Still, the methods here might be just a little high-pressure, especially if there are relatively new golfers in the group – on a course whose layout is welcoming to beginners. Perhaps requiring a trailing group to play through may be a better "first step" than warning a group that they'll be forced to rush or skip holes, particularly on a brutally hot/humid day. It's done politely, but perhaps there's a better compromise to be found.
Overall, great facility, will probably be back.
