16th Hole from the teebox Photo submitted by djapes on 04/02/2015
Funky, funky, funky
If you've never played this course before make sure you don't have any suicidal tendencies or fatalistic thoughts before stepping on the 1st tee. It looks beautiful from the clubhouse. Your expectations are high, the opening hole is nondescript, you get to the 2nd tee box THEN the layout gets really funky. Lots of extreme elevation changes (not for the better), blind tee shots and all the approach shots are uphill...many of them extremely uphill. Bentgrass fairways are very nice but the fescue rough is brutal. The greens are bentgrass as well. They look great but are very slow (9-10 on the stemp) and grainy. The fescue rough surrounds each green and unless you have Michelson ability with your wedges count on a bogey or double bogey if you miss the dance floor. Be sure to follow the directional signs from green to next tee or you'll get lost and never heard from again. The 9th and 18th hole were certainly designed by someone that had a intense argument with their spouse prior to putting these two disasters on paper. Two of the worst designed holes I've played in my 55 years of playing this great sport. We found this track to be a 5 hour headache. Do yourself a favor....go out to Reems Creek, have lunch on the veranda, enjoy the beautiful mountain views, leave a big tip for your server then go home with your mental facilities still in tact. The staff is great, very nice and helpful. Enjoy your lunch!!!
Staff ruined our experience
Course was in great shape, but the staff from start to finish constantly rushed and talked to us like we’re 10 year olds. Every person (8) in our group had the worst experience with golf course staff. The starter will harass you about pace of play before you even tee off so be prepared.
Awesome layout and stunning views with tons of potential to be a golf experience to write home about!
Awesome layout with and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Each hole has tons of character and reminded me of Gleneagles Kings Course in Scotland. Lots of doglegs and elevation changes kept things interesting. The course is under new ownership and from we could see they are doing a fantastic job getting back in good shape. Once the course has some time to come back to shape it will be truly stunning. Don't listen to the reviews complaining about the course condition, just roll the ball and keep it in the fairway and you'll be fine! Our group had golfers from NY and PA and we thoroughly enjoyed our day here.
Everyone on staff was super friendly and welcoming, from the owners to the starter. We enjoyed learning a bit about the course's recent history and future plans. Reems Creek also had the best COVID protocols of any course I've played in 2020, everyone was in masks (our bartender washed her hands AND put gloves on before mixing an excellent margarita at the turn). The clubhouse is gorgeous and newly renovated. The $50 to ride 18 was more than reasonable...the day before we played here we paid $150 to play the Omni Grove Park Inn and would play Reems Creek 10 times over before going back to the Omni and their less-than-friendly staff.
I'd definitely recommend playing up a set of tees as the course plays longer with many approach shots drastically uphill. I played college golf and play 5-6 days a week and still needed to move up a set on the back, swallow your pride and move up!
Renovated course is fabulous!
Reems Creek GC has undergone a transformation to write home about. Caring owners Summer & Pam have added "wows" to so many areas of this course! Clubhouse-Wow! All new interior(& roof) w/style, comfort, large screen tvs, all w/the customer in mind. Renovated patio has great views of the manicured fairways & surrounding mountains-wow! And the course--great variety!...14 of 18 holes either have multi-tiered greens, or elevation changes, so it's a new challenge every day! Greens & fairways are great; they have added new tees & are reseeding existing tees; Added new GPS on all carts, added New flags on greens that show Red=front, White=middle & Yellow=back pin locations....all to enhance the golfer's experience...Wow! This is mountain golf as it should be! Put this course on your "Must Play" list now!!
The New Reems Creek is Amazing!
I had low expectations coming to Reems Creek today. I expected GPS on carts, and the same poorly maintained golf course. Lipstick on a pig. Boy was I surprised! The new owners have sunk HUGE $$ into the course, the clubhouse, and the carts, and they are on site nurturing the customer experience to the max.
The old Reems Creek is dead. The awful, washed out, steep faced bunkers are being filled in and re-sodded, and new flat bunkers that actually make sense have replaced them. The fairways are now mowed in a cross hatched pattern that allow the golfer to perfectly visualize the target area. The greens are smooth and consistent. I'd like them a little bit faster, but they are great to play on as they are.
The layout is challenging for the first time through the course. But it's plenty of golf course to hold your interest and make you want to have another crack at it.
You won't recognize the clubhouse. It's gone from "1985 neglected and beat" motif to a 2020 space that is inviting and warm. Big screen TV's and double sided fireplace. Have a beer, sit down, and enjoy the views.
Want something at the turn? They have a staffer on #9 tee waiting to take your order (on busy days) to make sure that what you want is ready when you tee off on #10!!! This place is amazing.
Want to play golf for $20 including a cart, free beer and a hot dog? Then this isn't your place. You can't invest this much capital and do free Golf Now Hot Deals. But the Reems Creek card for $69 gets me a free round of golf, and then $40 rounds with cart on weekdays and $48 on the weekends. Which is pricing I'm OK with given that it is now a really good golf experience.
The new owners are a God send. They have established 15 minute tee time spacing to maximize the experience and space out play. Plus a new Director of Golf coming on board in May who appears to be a solid teacher with great credentials. My only regret in writing this review is that more people will find out about this gem and make it tougher for me to get a tee time.
Beautiful views ! Beautiful course!
I fell in love with the views on this course, when I was visiting in April 2018. However, the course was not in the best shape.
Played it for the first time on Friday (5/1) after the new owners bought it and did extensive work on it. The course now matches the scenery! BEAUTIFUL!!
Reems Creek is a challenging course with numerous blind tee offs. The new carts not only work fantastic on the hilly course, but are also equipped with GPS that assists greatly with distances and other carts on course. The cart paths have also been greatly improved.
The greens and the fairways are GREEN and well manicured. The bunkers are a work in progress. The greenskeepers are friendly and appear to have great pride In the course.
The new owners have also revamped the club house on both the interior and exterior. While in the pass , this was not a facility with a very good 19th hole to enjoy after a round.
Now I am excited to hang with friends, get a drink and/or have something to eat when done golfing . (Of course after the CV-19 restrictions are lifted)
I recommend this course highly! It is one of the best public courses in the area , although it has many of the great traits of a private course.
New owner making great changes
New owner, dedicated to making the golf course the best, can’t wait to see the changes.
New owners, we'll see how it goes...
Course is fun, a little hilly at times. Driving range is convenient but a little cramped. the course is under new ownership which has already began making substantial changes, some for the better and then some not.
Should give a little time for them to get their feet under before judging too harshly, but hoping they will see that adding more barriers to the game of golf isnt going to help it grow. Would rather see a focus on enforcing pace of play or better course conditions than making sure no one has an untucked shirt, golf cart in the parking lot, etc.
All in all a fun course that will be interesting to see how it progresses moving forward,
Challenging layout
Have played this course numerous times over the last 10 years, and still find it challenging. Plenty of elevated tees/greens and doglegs requiring layups and we'll thought out club selection. Lots of undulations in the greens which are usually in good shape and roll true. Sand traps could be improved upon and some cart paths are in need of repair but the layout and views more than makeup for condition. Course is understaffed but employees are always friendly.
Good value for the money
This was my first time playing Reems Creek, even though my parents have lived close to here for over 20 years. It was a very positive experience for me, for two reasons. First, the greens, for the most part, are in fantastic shape, and they are bent grass. I love bent grass greens. Sure, there are some tee boxes and other areas of the course that need some work, but for $28 on a weekday afternoon I cannot complain. Pace of play was not an issue for me, because there really wasn't anyone on the course. There were a couple of golfers ahead of me, but they didn't hold me up at all.
I was warned about the bunkers not being playable, but I hit out of a couple of them without any issues. Sure, remove the rocks and pebbles around your ball and play your short. No big deal.
I will say as a first time player of this course that you will need to bring your own GPS map of the course, as half the holes I was standing on the tee box thinking, "ok, where do I hit it?" So course familiarization is a must. But for me, having a wide open course is a major plus for me, in helping me enjoy my round.
For those of you who need a cart girl, and all of that other non-essential non-golf related BS, go somewhere else. This is a no frills golf course. I had a great time figuring this course out, and I will be back.
Not bad
Course was really wet but it did rain a ton the day before. I just don’t understand why the course was not cart path only, also had to cut 3 holes bc tee times weren’t spread out. Greens were really good, fairways and tee boxes we’re ok. Bunkers are biggest complaint here they don’t have sand and are never raked
Great day!
Thank you! Had a great day on the beautifully contoured course and outstandingly maintained fairways and greens. Loved it! The views are great! Clubhouse was efficient and got me out on this challenging course with beautiful vistas. Love love...
Lots of elevation changes.
Visiting from flat Florida, this was a nice change of pace.
Could be a nice course
Read good reviews so while in the area, I gave it a shot. The place is definitely in need of some improvements. Either that, or the weather has just been awful so they can't keep up with maintenance.
It was Monday morning at 11:00 so it's hard to know how how it would during a very busy time (it wasn't too busy at all). The club house seemed fine. Not a great deal of golf gear so bring what you need (they didn't have a med-large glove I was hoping to buy). Range balls were a collection you'd find at a muni and the range is relatively small (sign asks for irons only).
The tee boxes were not in good shape, with lots of bare spots on the box and lots of high grass on the edges of the box. The fairways were good for the most part and the greens were also good, although they were soft and slow. The bunkers were in terrible shape. Most were washed out and unraked. Apparently they had some serious rain (according to one of the folks I played with) so they hadn't done any real maintenance to deal with that.
The course has a lot of elevation changes, some blind shots and strategically places hazards/bunkers. Nothing too tricky but if you can get a yardage book (I didn't) or can get paired up with someone with knowledge, you'd be better off.
I'll likely try it again if I'm staying in the area but I'd hope they've done some work on the place. It has great potential. Would only recommend if they've had an opportunity to do some work on the place.
Thanks for your comments. We are the new owners as of January 2020 and we will be upgrading the course...please try us again.
A great all around experience!
Course conditions were good. Pace of play was a little slower than I like, but it may have been because of the mountains terrain.
The staff was extremely accommodating. I would definitely recommend this course if you are in the area and looking for a fun,, scenic and affordable round of golf.
A great little polarizing gem
First, I fall into the group who really like this course; Fun and pretty fair selection of holes and distances.
Having said that I can understand why a number of players complain about it - the elevation changes, with lots of uphill approaches, and blind shots can throw off a lot of GIR golfers. Since I rarely hit a GIR, lol, the annoyance of coming up short due to elevated green was lessened, A yardage book, with hole illustration, is definitely your friend first few times you play. Course was a little soggy in spots and greens seemed well-tended but are by no means fast.
Staff, particularly the young lady handling check-in, was friendly and helpful.
All in all, a really nice, reasonably placed, track to grab a round of golf.
Glad to hear the course holds to a strong pace of play policy. That's a positive, not a negative in my play book.
