Raleigh, North Carolina is at the heart of one of the centers of American higher education and at the nexus of one of the greatest three-way college rivalries in the nation. North Carolina State University is in Raleigh itself, the University of North Carolina is a bit to the northwest in Chapel Hill, and Duke University lies up the road in Durham. (Wake Forest University isn't far away, either.) University towns are great for food, drink, and fun. Universities also have some of the best golf courses around. Settle the rivalry with your own competition, playing courses on all three campuses. In Raleigh, play the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University, designed by Arnold Palmer. In Chapel Hill, check out the Tom Fazio-designed UNC Finley Golf Club. The Duke University Golf Club is a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design, which has been renovated by his son, Rees Jones. Finally, if you can swing an invite, go old-school at the Raleigh Country Club, a classic Donald Ross design.
