tough course with an ocean view... for one hole!

this is one of the few courses in Hilton Head where you actually see the ocean (off the back of 10 green).

of the five courses we played on the island, this was the most forgiving, but was no less difficult. there are quite a few forced carries and there is plenty of water to avoid.

the most unique thing about this course to me is its routing. it plays almost straight out and then back. it was incredibly windy during our round, and the entire front nine was almost directly into the wind. that made for a lot of tough shots (especially the long par 3s). then most of the back nine the wind was at our back, which was kind of hard to adjust to.

very nice course!

one of the best courses around

played harbour town as part of a yearly golf trip. it is without question one of the best courses i've ever played. aside from pebble beach, i can't think of any courses that compare.

it was very helpful to have a forecaddie to help with shot selection and also to provide cool information about the course and its history.

the back nine is especially tough, but the whole course will challenge your entire range of skills.

17 and 18 are two of the most beautiful holes i've ever played.

we played the week after the RBC was in town so the bleachers were still up, which was cool. the course was closing down for renovations shortly after we played, but i can't even imagine how the course could be better!

tough course, but no actual ocean!

played this course the same day as its sister course (heron point). this layout is definitely more challenging, despite being a little softer. there is a lot of water in play, but no actual ocean views. the scenery is still quite beautiful though.

challenging course. classic dye.

played this course and its sister course (the ocean course) in one day. it's amazing how different the two courses are. the ocean course was very soft while heron point was classic pete dye design... elevated greens that were hard and fast.

the quick greens were very challenging, and the course itself is no picnic.

still, this is a fun course and different enough from the ocean course to be worth playing both.

beautiful course, good challenge

this was the first course of five we played in hilton head. it did not disappoint. lots of water to navigate, but a very fair setup.

like most of the courses we played, precision is at a premium. getting too far off the fairway is costly.

watch the greens...

played out at grey rock this past sunday. the course was running hard and fast, but was in pretty good shape... however, the greens were ridiculous. i've never seen such touchy greens. they must've been near 15 on the stimp meter. in my opinion, there is no place for that kind of green on a public course. it massively slowed down play and generally caused great frustration among the members of the group.

other than that (which is probably just a temporary issue) the course was in good shape and the layout is always fun.

i'll definitely be back, but if you are going sometime near the writing of this review... be warned about the greens. otherwise, it's a great course.

nice little muni

mo willy is a solid muni track. it is fairly open, which makes it playable for any skill level, but there is a fair bit of elevation change and the greens are tricky enough to challenge better players too.

there is a great view of the skyline coming up the fairway on hole 7.

for the price, it'd be hard to find a better place to play.

farm course with country club greens

bluebonnet is a nice place to play a round of golf. they are committed to a good pace of play, so even when it gets a little crowded things tend to move along.

no review of this course would be complete without including the well known fact that it has some of the best greens in town (including top dollar courses). i always think this fact is overstated until i go out and play again. this round the whole course was a wet sloppy mess, and the greens were still pretty dry and rolled true.

overall this is a fun course that anyone can play. better players won't find too much challenge, but there are some good holes out there (especially on the back 9).

Fun little course

I tried out Sterling Hills at random based on positive reviews on Google and because it was close to my hotel in Westlake Village. Was basically the first person off for the day. The course has some fun holes that are interesting and present challenging shots. The course overall was in fairly good shape, but the greens were exceptional. A lot of the fairways had large areas under repair, but were still very playable.

This is a fun course that is not too difficult. If you are looking for a good value and a friendly place to play I'd recommend it.

Not bad for a muni!

Played this as a final round of a golf trip since it was near the airport.

For being a muni it was in pretty decent shape (especially compared to most munis i've played in Texas).

It's a pretty straightforward course, but is interesting enough to be enjoyable. There is a par 5 on the back (i think #16) that was the toughest par 5 of our trip (Steele, Madera, and Torrey were the other courses we played).

If you are looking for a good, inexpensive round this is the spot.

What else can you say? It's Torrey Pines!

Played Torrey Pines South as part of a group trip to San Diego. Aside from the difficulty of getting a tee time and price for being from out of state, the experience was unforgettable.

Seriously, this course is a regular PGA stop and hosted a US Open. Not the kind of course you stumble upon everyday.

The views are stunning. The course is challenging. But it is something you will never forget.

Excellent course. Usual Troon excellence.

Played this course as part of a 5 round golf trip to San Diego. Next to Torrey Pines this was the best course of the trip.

The conditions were incredible from tee to green. The views are stunning. The course is very challenging, but fair. It will test every aspect of your game.

It's a little pricey, but worth the investment.

Tough course, but great views

Played 36 at Steele Canyon as part of a golf trip with the guys. Canyon/Ranch was our 2nd 18.

In my opinion, Canyon is the toughest 9 at Steele, and it's not for the faint of heart. It will challenge you at every turn. The elevation changes are the most severe and fairways are the tightest.

Ranch is probably the easiest 9, so you get a little bit of a break coming in.

Overall, the course is great. Perfect conditions and the holes are fun. Just be sure to bring your best game or bring some extra balls!

Amazing scenery and challenging course

Ranch/Meadow is a great 18 holes. The views are incredible on all the 9s at Steele.

Ranch is probably the easiest 9, but it is still very tough. The first hole is pretty easy, but the immediately the second hole has a big forced carry.

Meadow is quite a bit more difficult, but perhaps even more beautiful.

Conditions were fantastic. The course layout is tough, but still fun. Good shots are rewarded, but poor shots will cost you.

It's worth noting that the temperature at Steele is very warm compared to being in San Diego. It was probably 20 degrees warmer during our visit.

fun course

i am a fan of this course. "pristine" might be a little overboard, but the course was in very good shape.

the course isn't the most challenging in the world, but it is not easy either. lots of tight holes that require good tee shots. even though the par 5s are on the short side the fairways are pretty well protected and require good placement to have a clear shot to get home in 2.

both times i've played out here the pace of play has been quick, and slower groups have been very accommodating. the staff are also very friendly.

it's quite a drive, but well worth trip.

worth the trip

this was my first time at cowan creek, and i really enjoyed it. i have played white wing a couple times, but cowan is a very different animal. it's much more challenging and is a really fun layout. lots of variety in length and layout of the holes. it gives you the opportunity to hit multiple types of shots off the tee instead of just banging driver on every hole.

course was in solid condition even after a pretty good rain the night before i played.

only downside was the pace of play was a little slow, especially considering the course was not at all crowded.

no matter, considering the quality of course cowan creek is a great deal and well worth the trip out there.

great course

this was my first time at onion creek. really enjoyed it. it's a little old fashioned in that the holes are very tight and close together and pretty short, but none of that takes away from what a great course it is. there are plenty of tee selections to challenge any skill level. the holes (especially the back 9) demand the ability to shape shots. the greens are possibly the best i've played on in austin.

overall, i was blown away. enjoyed the course a lot, and it was not overly crowded. couldn't ask for anything more.

if you haven't been, it's worth your time and money.

fantastic course

grey rock is a fun and challenging course. it's a very nice facility and it has always been in great shape when i've played. there is enough difference between the white, blue, and gold tees to accommodate or challenge any skill level.

definitely everyone should try this place out.

fun, but tough course

this is a tough course. lots of trees and hazards and tight greens. but it is a fair layout that can really reward you for hitting good shots. overall, it is a very good course to play.

the two downsides i've run into multiple times here are 1) slow play - this weekend played nearly a 5 hr round, and 2) not very friendly staff. i wouldn't say they are unfriendly, but they seem to get chippy.

also had the misfortune of being paired up with a group that was constantly playing music in their cart, which was fairly annoying.

tough in the wind...

it had been a while since i last played here. looks like they have cleaned up a few of the brushy areas, which made the course look nicer, and hopefully will help speed up play a little bit.

pace of play the last few times i've been there has been very slow, but the course is worth it. the undulated greens are tough on a normal day, but particularly so when it's really windy.
