Poor Conditions, blind tee shots, narrow fairways, small greens

Just not a great experience on the course. Lots of blind tee shot landing areas. My group also had other groups steal our golf ball on 3 different occasions. I haven't had that happen to me on a golf course in over 6 years. Blind tee shot landing areas made for some lost balls just off the fairways for members of the group. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I won't be coming back here due to the course, but the staff elevated the experience. The chef really went out of their way and should be commended to fix a misunderstanding in the order given to him.

Good but challenging golf course

My cart died on the 17th tee box so I had to walk the last two holes but that was really the only negative. Carts have GPS which is good because cell service is spotty at best. Don’t go off the pin numbers though as they were quite different from my range finder a few times. Really good layout. Not for the beginner golfer. This course is a real challenge and can make for a long day if you’re not to a certain standard.

One of the best in the world

This is one of the best golf courses in the world. The green complexes are spectacular and create very challenging and fun/interesting putts and short game shots. The greens were as pure as could be. The back 9 on this course is truly special. Enjoy this classic design and appreciate the fact that the public gets an opportunity to play this Allister Mackenzie gem.

Major Venue Course

I enjoyed playing this course only a few weeks removed from hosting the PGA Championship. The fairways were in such perfect shape... I was really impressed. The fairways are narrower than normal due to the set up for the PGA Championship which made hitting them off the tee quite the challenge for everyone in the group. The rough was thick and the ball almost always sat down in it. The bunkers were a bit too firm and had some shots feel like I was almost hitting off hard compacted sand. The greens were punched a few days before so I did not take them into consideration in my review. There was some areas with damage well off the fairways likely due to the set up for the major. For course design i found the front 9 to be nice but similar to what you’d find at a Blackhorse/Bayonet or other nicer course in the Bay Area/Monterey area but nothing noteworthy. The back 9 had a couple unique holes that really provided interesting and demanding shots. I’d say this course is a very good challenge and one to be played if in the area. The course doesn’t crack my top list of courses I’ve played and would define it as a best in city or top 10 in region type of course and not a top course on a national or state level. The cost for the round can be a bit high and there are better courses for the same or less price. If value isn’t of concern and you want to play a course that’s hosted a major and will host a Ryder Cup then you’ll enjoy this course.

Poor Course Management and Spotty Greens

I last played this course a few years ago and really liked it. It was in great shape and would recommend it to people asking for places to play in the area. I just played this course the day after playing the sister Valley course and was very disappointed. I don’t understand how 5 hour rounds are possible when tee times are scheduled every 10 minutes. At every single hole there were two groups on the tee. On a few holes three groups. It took 4:50 min to play 17 holes and we weren’t able to finish 18 as it got too dark and we still would’ve needed to wait for another group to tee off on the hole in front of us. As far as the course conditions this used to be a championship (tournament) conditioned course. Now there are rough patches in some fairways but the real disappointment were some of the greens. Lots of divots and large scarring from old hole locations. At least one hole had terrible dead patches all over it and my putt was bouncing around all over them. Not what I would expect from this course. In its current condition I couldn’t recommend it. Combine that with its current pace of play and it’s one to be avoided for the time being. I hope they fix these issues as I do enjoy the layout and would like to return in the future. Just hard to believe 10 minute tee times result in 5 hour rounds on less than ideal conditions. The management of tee times needs to be improved. There are better courses for the same price and better values out there as well.

Walking Only but set up for Carts only

Course was walking only due to COVID restrictions and that was totally fine. The problem was the course layout makes no sense to the walking golfer. Signage is all along the cart paths and the tee box right off the green is rarely your next hole. I waited for 10 minutes on a tee box for the group in front to clear before realizing I was on the wrong hole. Learned I had to walk along cart paths to see signs of where the next hole was frequently passing another tee box to get to my hole. Probably walked an extra mile or so just getting between holes. The course itself I knew was very flat and a friendly entry level course. For the price it was exactly what I expected and had no complaints. It’s nothing special but a good option to go out and play and not spend a ton. I would likely play this more often if the routing was set up for walking but I don’t want to walk a course that is clearly routed for carts. There are other options during this time that I’ll frequent while restrictions are in place. May come back after things return to normal. Played at 5:15pm and pace of play was brisk as a result. Can’t really comment on earlier in the day but my experience of pace of play on the Tournament course makes me skeptical

Fantastic Course

This course was a standout. The fairways and rough are vibrant green and lush. There weren't any bare lies on the course, and in January that is quite the achievement. The fairways are wide, but there are lots of strategic bunkers placed in the landing areas that make you think on each tee shot. The greens had good speed and rolled very nicely. There is some slope on the greens, but every putt I had was fair. The course will challenge your game, but I would describe it as a fair challenge. I didn't play well but managed to score decently. There is lots of elevation change on both tee shots and approach shots. Like other Fazio courses I have played in the past, there are some holes where you can use the slopes and contours around the green to feed the ball back towards the hole. It is quite the journey out here from San Diego, but it is definitely worth it. If this course was located in a more densely populated area it would be in all of the Top 100 course publications.

Firm and Fast Fairways

Fairways were firm and fast. Course design has shorter par 4s with long par 3s. This helped me score my best round ever. Green speeds were average. Pace of play was a little slow on the front 9 but a Marshall came by and told us there was a slow group ahead and he broke them up into twosomes. Pace of play was good after that. Kudos to them as most courses don’t do anything to help. Would like to play the course again.

Better Places to Play in the Greater Orlando Area

I had time to play one round of golf before flying out of Orlando later that night. I decided to give this place a try as it had great reviews. I was also considering Grand Cypress, Orange County National, and Omni Championsgate. I found a Hot Deal time for Mission Inn so I took up the opportunity to play this course. I was very disappointed in the conditions of the course compared to the reviews I have read on multiple sites. The lakes and streams were all empty, there were bare patches around the greens and off of the fairways. I would give the facility a two star rating for the conditions, but the greens rolled nice and propped it up. Compared to the World Woods courses I played a few days prior, the conditions here left a lot to be desired. I could see how it could have been great at one point, but I would not recommend it in its current state.

The course design had some interesting holes. One thing that really bothered me though were two holes (one on each 9) that ran parallel to each other going across the same pond and up the same hill. These holes were virtually identical. When I play a course with 18 holes I do not want to play the exact same hole twice. The 17th hole was a standout and there were 2-3 other holes that were pretty unique.

For the same price, I would have much rather played Grand Cypress, Chamionsgate, or Orange County National. This course is a good local course, but not worth a drive from the greater Orlando area.

Thank you for taking the time to review our facilities and are excited you found the greens to be in great shape. You may not be aware, but we are currently under a mandatory water restriction due to the drought like conditions in Florida and thus our lakes and ponds are a few feet below normal conditions. I'm sorry to hear you found the conditions and layout sub-par but hope you will give us another chance once we are able to irrigate on a regular basis.

Thank you for visiting.

Great Course Layout

World Woods Pine Barrens is ranked in the Top 100 Public Courses in America. I was a little disappointed in the conditions of the course for holding such a high ranking. There were brown spots on several greens, and the fairways had quite a few dead spots. PB's sister course, Rolling Oaks, was in much better shape. The par 5's on this course are all great. There is also a par 4 with two greens (much better hole with the green on the right-hand side). I had extremely high expectations for a course ranked #68 and was a little let down by the conditions. The layout was nice, but not really picture worthy either. Lots of elevation changes and it is definitely a course you need to use proper course management skills to score well. If you are coming to World Woods make sure you also play Rolling Oaks. You might come away debating which course you like better.

I would recommend this course, but wouldn't plan around playing these courses. If they are relatively in the way then make the stop. If you are choosing a Top 100 place to play in the Orlando or Tampa area then Streamsong blows World Woods out of the water. If you are on a budget, World Woods is much friendlier on the wallet. Streamsong, in my opinion, is still a better value as it is in a completely different class. Better yet, play them all!

Great Value, Great Local Course

I played both courses at World Woods as Pine Barrens is ranked in the Top 100 public courses in the US. I am very glad I decided to play Rolling Oaks as well. Rolling Oaks surprised me. The conditions on this course were significantly better than Pine Barrens. The greens had lots of undulations, but they did run rather slow for a course of this stature (probably 9 on the stimp). There are several memorable holes on the course and I found I took much more pictures of my round here than I did on Pine Barrens. If you are planning a trip to World Woods make sure you have enough time to play both courses. I don't know which course I liked better. I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5 if I could. Just can't compete with courses like Streamsong that are about the same distance away from Tampa. Great as a local course, very average as a national course. I wouldn't go too far out of my way, but if you are in the area then it is a MUST play.

For the price compared to Streamsong or Copperhead, I bring a group about of every other year to World Woods from Chicago. We love the courses, all one sees is golf, no houses, and can play 36 a day for $140 in middle of a cold Chicago winter. I am all IN!

Solid B

Good course for a local area. I wouldn't go out of my way or break the bank to play it. Probably a 75-100 per round price would represent a good value. Too many real short par 4s. The greens looked weird but they putt well. Nothing special but not much to complain about either. Solid B

Worth the Trip

Another great course at Streamsong. While I do slightly prefer the Red, the Blue course offers a slightly different challenge. Walk the course if you can and the weather cooperates. Played it at the replay rate which can't be beat. Go to Streamsong and you won't regret it.

Great Course and Great Setting

This is a course that is worth the trip. The setting is gorgeous. The layout offers lots of different ways to play each hole. There are quite a few memorable holes. It is a unique course that I want to play again and again. Prefer this one slightly more than the Blue but it is real close.

A- Course

I played this the day after TPC Sawgrass so I had to take time to reflect on it to fairly grade it. Got a deal time for the course and found it to be a great value. At the rack rate of $150 it is just an ok value. $75-100 is a solid value for the course. The course is fairly easy as I scored my second best round ever, but it is still interesting. You could put this course in just about any city and it would be one of their better public tracks. I wouldn't make a special trip to play here but if you're in the area I would recommend it.

Bucket List Course that Lives up to the Hype

Perfect day at TPC Sawgrass. The course was immaculate. Having played it 100+ times on video games it was even better in person. The new renovations are fantastic. #12 is now a great hole. Almost every hole is memorable. I couldn't imagine a better golf experience. I obviously had my playing partner record my tee shot on 17. Haven't felt more pressure over a shot in my life. The course is much more than just the island green, but that was still a uniquely special hole. I can't recommend this course enough. My playing partner said it is on the same level as Pebble Beach. Go here!

Perfect Day at Pasatiempo

This is the best course I have ever played. This year alone I have played 6 of the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses You Can Play, and they have this course ranked #21 while another publication has it ranked #13 and only behind Pebble Beach on the in state rankings. This course was designed by the same guy who designed Augusta National and Cypress Point.

I absolutely loved everything about this course. Each green has it's unique quirks. Make sure to practice your putting on the practice green before teeing off. I had one putt go 3 feet too long and end up rolling all the way off. Holes #3, 10, 11, and 16 are some of the best holes you can find anywhere. Each hole is different and I wound up using each club in my bag. There are no boring or throw away holes here. This is the type of course which challenges you but doesn't beat you up. You enjoy the challenge and welcome the next hole with enthusiasm. I can not pay this course enough compliments. The greens are truly what make this course great. Pay the green fee and play this gem! It is worth it!

When you finish your round make sure to head up to the Hollins House where you will have panoramic views of Santa Cruz and the Pacific Ocean.
