Always Good Shape

Pace of play = 4 for the kids in carts that slowed everyone down on the front 9…addressed with staff and they rectified immediately and pace was perfect on the back. We were 2 walkers if that tells you something. Course conditions were great as usual.

Another good day in Waupaca

Hot Deal that couldn’t be beat. Showed up a few minutes before tee time which I hate doing. Other person was let go alone. So played solo. Played 2 balls with cart in 3 1/2 hrs. Only delay was catching up to slow singles on last 2 holes (which I birdied both). No rush, end of season nice weather. Greens are quick here so staying below the hole is imperative.

Good Track

This course is never booked up. I always find open times where there is no pace issue. Hot deal on this round. Punching 1st-2nd fairways. Starter tells us. Get there and maintenance crew asks us to jump to 3rd so they can finish up. Well 2 groups in a row on 3-4. Playing as a single I check my options. Play 8, then 13-18, then 10-12, 6-9 (8 for fun), 1-5. Tab my scores then play 6-8, 13-16, 2 and done. Nobody ever behind me nobody ever in front of me. Turn in cart and starter asks if I was able to finish. Played 2 balls and mentioned I what happened to start. Told him I jumped around and got it done and even did a few extra holes to get back in. His attitude, facial expression and tone of voice changed. “We don’t usually let people play extra holes.” *sigh*. Guess I could have replied “you don’t let people warm up either.” No driving range or warm up area here. Just 2 putting greens. This course is great just don’t tell them you olayed any extra holes. 1 and 18 are beast par 4’s and it seems like the wind is in your face when you play them. #3 a fantastic par 3. Better know your distances. Short. Long. Left. Right. Those aren’t options. #4 90 degree dog right but gotta make the corner or else. #5 long gentle right par 4. #6 fun short dog left -gotta make the corner again. If pins front left you will be putting from different county. #7 shorter par 3 but pin was tight left …with pond and steep drop waiting to collect your Titleist. #8 no driver par 4. Sand left, pond right. #9. 3 shot par 5 unless you can bomb it and hit with laser straightness. Hate this hole. 2nd shot layup always gets me with fairway bending right and landing spots visually challenging. #10 fun par 4. Lake/pond all along left. Trees right. #12 another hole that makes me tighten the grip on tee shot. Gently curving to the left but pond squeezes you to the right waiting with huge earth mounds to mess up anything right. #13 love this hole. Short dog left. Again. Only option is fairway and long enough to get past corner. #14 bombers will like this hole. If playing smart right side of fairway is your target. #15-16 good par 4’s straight away. 16 green much trickier. #17 longer par 3 back to front green slope. Then long 18 into the westerly breeze.

Please change your GolfNow picture!!!!

Please reach out to GolfNow and change that picture that accompanies your course reservation.

That is the ugliest #*%ing golf swing I’ve ever seen at that point in the mechanics of the swing. Please change to a picture of the course or something. Just change that picture. It makes me want to go break all my clubs. You have a nice course there. Don’t wreck it by advertising that Dorf like golf swing. I can’t imagine the pro at the course created that swing look in lessons. Just use the PGA Logo or a picture of squirrel digging up acorns.

Incredible November Weather on a Good Course

Well it was amazing weather. 2 people baked and played as 2-some thought it would be bad pace but flew on the front 9 up til 8. Back nine dragged though. Several fun holes here. 8 is a gorgeous par 3, #9 only tricky when the power lines knock your great shot down. #11 short par 4 up a hill. #15 is a funky par 4 tee shot off a cliff. Signature hole #16 is nice. Greens a little bumpy but not horrible. Overall good round and pace likely would have been better if not a 2-some squeezed between all the 4-somes.

Another course to close soon....

Apparently Ryan Moore will be making a ton of money when he sells this place to a developer for more housing development.

$49 walking 18? Hahahaha.

Obviously the prices have been jacked up to chase golfers away and have reason to sell to the developers. Nice work.

Nice Change

Been awhile since I got down to Eagles Pride. Wreck on 512 made me a little late so cashier seemed put off by it although I called from the road to give a heads up. Skipped 1 and came back to it. Never caught guy I was supposed to play with so played solo...and flew.

I liked the change on Blue (?) where they took the wonky dogleg par 4, made it a 3 then made the long 3 into a 4. That was a smart move.

Greens in just fantastic(!!) shape.

Muddy Madrona

This is a great course in the summer. The greens are still in great shape for December. Only issue during winter is the muddy conditions. I know it’s winter golf in the PNW so can’t complain too much but this and others like it (Allenmore, Meadow Park to name a few) just get so muddy during winter. The fairways and rough thin out and expose the lack of sand these courses were not built with. But a good pair of rain pants and rain jacket/shirt will keep the muck off you. Great GolfNow got deal to play too.

Rained Out

First off - what else can be said about this course? It truly is a fantastic layout. I'm out of state but played on a crazy hot deal. Although I love the course I wouldn't play it for $60.

Review of course...
1) not a fan that the bunkers are hardened sand. Not sure the sand is wet when raked and dries up and gets crunchy. Not use to playing out of that so thought processes are racing trying to figure the bounce, trajectory, etc out of it.
2) what makes this course awesome is not just the layout but the opportunities to make it more challenging. Many courses lengthen it with tee boxes lined up straight back. PH tee grounds are off set in different locations on most holes so you get a different look and approach to your tee shot. So play a round from the whites then the next from the blues and you'll see. Also at elevation you are getting 10% or so added distance on clubs so even the tips make this 6500-6700 yd sea level yardage so play a round from the back as well.
3) where the true challenge comes on PH are the greens. When you find a straight/flat 10 footer...post the picture.
4) Light drizzle started on 10, picking up by 11th tee left tee shots in fwy and headed to clubhouse...and waited a LONG time. This wasn't typical summer t-storm that came through. It was spotty after a good 45m dumping, so finished 11...dumped, sat in cart on 12 for 20 minutes....lightened up, tee off 12...dumping by time I got to the green...stick a fork in me I'm done. Was last one out of the parking lot so my Washington state golf in rain attitude kept me there longer than the locals. They are better meteorologists than I am I guess.

Zack in clubhouse is good to talk to. He will help you out around the course getting where you need to be and commiserate about the stupid GHIN system if you engage him.

Already made another tee time for this week...hoping to finish a round this time.

Course is in Great Shape

1005 tee time with 4some walking on a Tuesday. Finished in short of 4 hrs. I played it last week and rough was US Open-like. But since they got it mowed down. Course was in great shape. Good walking course and a good challenge. You will need to be able to work the ball left and right around doglegs and some on course designed obstructions. Ball placement on several holes is critical to score well. Price was more than we usually pay but I had a free round coupon otherwise would not have paid $39 to walk. Thanks Columbia Hospitality for the inflated prices since you took over.

It was ok

Not a fan of 9 hole tracks...that's something you see in western NE. First time playing so played the back 9 better. Greens were in good shape, course was in good shape. Hot deal otherwise I wouldn't play it again. Primarily due to distance.

Crazy Fairways

Was in town for sons hockey camp. The course itself wasn't bad. Forgot if I played e/w or n/s. Greens were in good shape but the fairways were ridiculous. I've never played a course where there were mini rolling hills throughout the fairways. So a well hit drive in the middle of the fwy could be in some 4 inch deep depression forcing a punch shot for an approach or misjudging distances because uphill lie. Odd. Overall nice course though some good challenges and precision shot making off the tee for approach set ups are required.

Greens are Fantastic

Played on a cold and overcast weekday. Nobody on the course. Played 2 balls in 4 hrs. Only saw one other group when I finally caught up to them on 18. The fairways are generous for tee shots. They are however quite bumpy/uneven. Not in a planned way either. So you run the risk of a bad lie in the fairway. The 6 star rating for this course comes on the greens. They roll very well and were quite fast. Overall a good course for the regular golfer. In this area if you want the tougher course it would be Black Bear down in Carlton.

A NorCal Favorite

It's probably a favorite of mine since I shot my best round here ever (69) in 2012. Whenever back in the area I always like to play it on a golf now deal. They since swapped the front and back and things were backed up on the front, so I had hot deal with cart, is was overcast with threatening rain, so I took it upon myself to go off the back (old front) 9. Ripped thru it pretty quick in a cart. Record round was safe from going down but still had a good round. I like the challenge of target gold on several holes and forced carries on a few as well as some tempting short cuts if you've got the guts here. Greens were a little on the not as great as I remember side. But since I'm partial to this track I didn't let that bug me.

Not too bad

First time playing here. Not to bad of a course. The rough was a little thick but added some challenge that the layout is missing. Straight ahead and not too challenging. A good course for beginners or high handicappers for sure. A few interesting holes with approaches that dropped to the greens. So a shot a little short bounds towards the hole. Another longer par 5 with tall pines on both sides and green tucked behind left set of trees. With this in mind I'd play a few holes differently. But you can score well here. 76 for my first time. Overall decent course. A few spots in the fairways were in need of some attention. Straight ahead wide fairways off the tee and plenty of room to approach the holes sans a few greens. Will be back.

First Time Surprise

For all the times I've played Trophy, McCormick, and Gold Mtn this one is close to me too but have never played it. I guess I thought it was executive course or only 9 holes due to GN profile. But once I realized in was full 27 and $10 GN deal I had to play. And what a pleasant surprise. I am sure it looks a little better in the spring and fall for being more green but it has been a hot summer so lots of brown spots. But the greens here are in fabulous shape and TRICKY. Not very big either so accuracy on approach shots will be required. I played the whites and was paired with 3 others so the round was longer than I am use to or like. And we weren't chasing anyone either. So the 4.5 hr round is the only drawback for review. A single we let through just flew past us an out of sight so I'm sure the course plays faster. Great Deal

Played here once before and have been looking forward to a return round. Couldn't pass on $12 with cart!!!

Course was in great condition. Little drizzle to start. Done by 2nd hole and calm overcast 70 the rest of round. Was 4 hrs with the two ladies they paired me up with. Kept pace with group in front and played great on the back.

Only item I would work on is driving range could use some attention.

Will be back for sure.

Nice Course

You can never complain when you start your round with an Eagle. You would think to write a glowing review when you get another Eagle. Well...maybe not glowing but I will say the course was in really nice shape for a muni. Two Eagles on short par 5's was something I never did before but that would be the only drawback. The course does not offer any super challenge. There are a few holes that you have to work the ball left or right. But as long as you stay away from the trees or homes it is straight shooting. Reviews about greens from April reviews are gone. Greens were rolling well. GolfNow $13 walking deal was great. Only oddity were a few holes on the back nine golfing in the 'hood. In the words of Schwarzenegger - "I'll be back."

Better than Expected

I must have seen a crummy out of focus photo of this course somewhere and thought the course would be a joke. The joke was on me. First the gentleman checking me in (name began with B -- Brent) was very nice and even started up a conversation about his hickory shafted clubs and the hickory shaft group he plays with. Then onto the the driving range. Meh. Could be a little better maintained. But decent enough to warm up. Then onto Hal at the starter booth who met me with a smile and a handshake. So I was under the impression that they only kept 18 of 27 holes open. Which would ale sense to keep the entire outfit in better shape. Nope. Hal asked that I was a single and sent me off on a track that would let me fly through my round. Finished in 3 hrs. The course itself was in much better than I expected condition. Fairways were good, greens were great. Tee boxes a little abused but still ok. I would have given 5 * across the board but the last aero fixation has not 100% healed yet. They could likely go over again with some slight spot sanding to fill in the few holes left on the greens. No putts were affected just something I noticed. There was also someone out in ranger cart with seeded sand filling in divots in the approach areas on one of the holes and I then noticed that he must have been busy this week as most of the approach areas on fairways seemed to have been recently filled. What a thought by the course super. Overall fair yet challenging course. I was sent down the blue/gold tracks. Look forward to my next trip on the 3rd 9 holes to experience them. Nice job Lipoma Firs team!
