Great experience here from staff at check in, members I encountered, and groundskeeper I talked to. Love the design. Reminded me a lot of Pinehurst #8 (which is a big compliment). Great bunkering and mounding that looks very natural in the sandy hills of Columbia. Course drained very well even after a lot of rain the day before. Greens good and rolling smooth. There were a few spots where it looks like some intrusive nutsedge has set in but those spots had obviously been treated and were dying quickly and being taken care of. Overall, a very good experience and course. Only negative was that the cart paths are in really bad shape but that doesn't detract from a wonderful design. There are some homes around the course but they are NEVER intrusive and I never came near a white stake (and I hit plenty of bad shots).
DeBary Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/28/2018Fun layout, good staff, nice greens
Debary is a good option if you are in NE Orlando. Greens and bunkers were good, fairways fine. Nice staff and pace of play on a Tuesday was great. Much more elevation change than I expected and some cool holes (9 is awesome). A little more OB surrounding the holes than I like, but it's only in play on really bad shots. Overall a nice experience and great value for ClubCorp members.
Dunwoody Country Club
Played On 08/20/2018One of best clubs in Atlanta
First class all the way. Some really great par 5's and excellent amenities. Greens absolutely perfect. A real treat if you are lucky enough to get on.
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Legends Course
Played On 08/16/2018Perfect conditions leading up to Mid-AM
I can't stress how absolutely perfect the greens were. 10/10. Course meanders through the neighborhood but homes don't encroach on the course much (a couple of OB stakes are too far toward fairway IMHO). Interesting design and great pace of play. Worth a play when in the area for sure. Only complaint for me would be that I think some of the really mature trees should be trimmed back/removed as they seem to have really overgrown the original design over the years.
East Lake Golf Club
Played On 08/09/2018Classic and luxurious
A day at East Lake is hard to beat. From the time you get to the front gate, til you leave, you are treated like a cherished member. The locker room is fantastic (as are the showers), the food is tremendous, and of course walking a Donald Ross design with caddies doesn't get any better. Rough is VERY penal especially this time of year. Zoysia fairways are immaculate. Stay for lunch and sit on the patio. Practice facility is great too, although it's weird to have a pond directly in front of the practice tee. Overall, this is an amazing experience for any golfer.
Currahee Club
Played On 07/26/2018Best views in Georgia, secluded setting, great facilities
The views alone are worth playing this course, but it's a great championship track with great greens and true challenge on top of that. Excellent dining and cabins. Staff was more than accommodating and the secluded feel of the holes is very special. I could play 10-14 over and over and never get tired.
Worth the trip from Atlanta or Greenville.
The River Club Golf Course
Played On 09/21/2017Outstanding amenities, excellent conditions, great staff
Had a great experience at The River Club. Staff was extremely attentive and friendly, practice area is top notch, greens were PERFECT. Design is fun and challenging. A couple of holes have OB too close to the fairway in my opinion, but overall it is a gorgeous design. Pet peeve is several holes where bunkers are right on the tree line. It's an odd design feature and kind of a double penalty. Doesn't make sense. But that's a tiny ding on an overall fantastic club and experience. Mens grill, locker room facilities, are top notch, and we actually stayed for dinner and had an excellent experience. Pace of play: Never waited on a single shot all day and no one behind us. HIGHLY recommend this club any chance you get.
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University
Played On 09/14/2017Wonderful layout, very cool bunkering
Despite being quite crowded, pace of play was very good. Really enjoyed this layout. Feels like a Coore/Crenshaw design with the shaggy bunker edges and undulating greens. Some great views here and no homes/development on the course really make this a great experience. Greens were in excellent shape as were the fairways. Highly recommend this and Duke University Golf Course when in the area.
Pinehurst Resort & Country Club - No. 9
Played On 09/13/2017Narrow drives, good conditions
Enjoyed the round here and conditions were good. Nice practice area and clubhouse. Tee shots were quite narrow in spots and this course is more difficult than No. 7. I prefer 7 but this is good and worth playing for sure when in the area. Greens are smaller and not as deep as other Pinehurst courses. This can make it hard to hold approaches on longer shots. I recommend playing a tee set shorter than you would usually play. Conditions were good and staff were nice. Of the courses I've played in the area, this wouldn't be in my top 3 but is still a good option and worth playing.
Harbor Club on Lake Oconee
Played On 08/04/2017Exciting and Unique, Two Great Reachable Par 4's
Exciting layout with great mix of scoring holes that you can attack, and very difficult holes that take strategy and execution to navigate. If this course didn't have several spots where homes/OB stakes cut WAAYY too close to the area of play (number 3 is ridiculous), it would be one of the best layouts in Georgia. The fact that a couple of homeowners actually have electric fence around their yards should give you an idea. But even with that nonsense the course is a really fun and strong design. Conditions were very good for early August, even with slow greens as they protect the bent grass from the heat. The greens were healthy and rolled smooth, just very slow. Practice facility is adequate, nothing great, but it's all you need. Staff are good. Not overly willing to greet and serve, but they aren't bad either. The food quality is outstanding (we ate lunch there three times). Truly great dishes and execution. Dining service was very slow but it was worth it for the food. Overall, a good experience and would recommend if you are in the area.
Duke University Golf Club
Played On 06/29/2017Strong layout, great greens
Classic RTJ layout. Lots of long, tree-lined par 4's. I walked 18 after 4 pm and even with a twosome in front of me never really had to wait more than a minute. Hillier than I expected. Great greens and well conditioned all over. Bunkers are VERY deep especially greenside. Greens firm and fast, even with light sand dusting recently. This is a challenging course. Very nice adjoining hotel and restaurants. Nice practice areas. Definitely recommend for better players staying in/around Durham.
Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2017Time machine - in a good way
Great Ross design with excellent elevated greens and very cool bunkering and waste areas. Really enjoyed every hole. Played through a couple of foursomes and pace was good. They aerated 8-9 days ago and greens had already recovered very very well. Rolled smooth just a little slow as would be expected. Grounds crew was hard at work all over the place but never in the way. Great little bar to go to after. Nice view of course and great bartender. Best of the 6 courses I've played in the Sandhills area.
Barefoot Resort & Golf - Dye Course
Played On 06/27/2017Good layout with a lot of teeth
Third time playing but it had been 6 years since I'd played it. Forgot how nice the clubhouse is. Truly first class. Place was empty as they aerated 4 days before (and it was 4pm). Really interesting and challenging layout. Some room off the tee but have to get pretty precise on approaches. Wouldn't recommend for higher handicaps. Would be a beast in the wind. Greens were beat up from aeration but I was pre-warned about it at booking and when I checked in and at the restaurant. Staff was all very strong and it was a good experience. Will definitely be back and would recommend to better players or those looking for a strong challenge.
Bear Trace at Harrison Bay State Park
Played On 06/21/2017Huge conditons improvement over last year
After a couple of summers with some tough weather and conditions, today the course was in very good shape. Tees, fairways, and greens very very good. Greens especially smooth and dense. A tad slow but that's okay. Still some hardpan spots where people don't drive/park their carts properly but those areas generally aren't in play. Really solid layout that has some teeth from the blue tees. Even after all the rain the course drained very well and was a delight to play. Kudos to the staff for improving conditions so much since last Summer. Definitely recommend Bear Trace when in Chattanooga.
South/North at Morgan Run Resort & Club
Played On 06/07/2017Good ClubCorp Option, Absolutely PERFECT greens
Played South/North. Good experience in clubhouse with check in and bar (good lunch food). Got behind 2 REALLY slow groups on front (never offered to let us play through even though they were on 2.5 hr PLUS pace for front nine). So we skipped them and were pretty open after that. Tees, fairways and greens all in EXCELLENT condition. Greens were just tremendous! South nine was a lot more of a challenge than back, but both are good and fun. Really liked the back (North). Some gorgeous holes and views. Overall, a fun day and a course I'll play again when in the area.
The Club at Savannah Harbor
Played On 01/04/2017Another Very Good Experience
Second time playing here. Amazing deal staying at the Westin it's only $15 in December and January (I think I paid ($90 last Summer). Course was wet from recent rains but very playable. Greens rolled true, medium speed. They are working on a couple of bunkers but it's not intrusive. Windy day made for some holes playing short and some playing very long. Really enjoyable layout. Fairways overseeded, which I hadn't seen anywhere in some time. This course has a wonderfully appointed clubhouse and spa/locker rooms. First class. Staff is great, too. Pro shop, bag drop, starter, everyone friendly and helpful. Again, first class. Range was closed due to all the rain. Big fan of this club and wish I got to Savannah more often to play it.
River Landing - River Course
Played On 11/16/2016Nice community, perfect greens
Good flat layout with several holes along the Cape Fear River. Nice practice facility. Clubhouse very nice. Greens were absolutely spectacular. Literally perfect. Played as a single behind stacks of foursomes so my play was slow but overall a good day.
Pinehurst Resort & Country Club - No. 7
Played On 11/15/2016Another good experience at No. 7
Greens are 100% recovered from what sounds like a rough spell. Excellent condition. Now that I've played it 3 times, I really enjoy this layout. Challenging but fair. Must avoid bunkers and CLUB UP on approaches. It plays so much longer because of all the uphill shots. Cart guys are really great and practice areas are very good. Kudos to the grounds crew as the greens are perfect and they are showing little stress from the drought.
