Lake Land Village Golf Course - Generation I & II Course
Played On 10/17/2017Fantastic value
I've played this course three times now. It has become my go-to course because it has been easy to get on, is a fun nice layout, and is very reasonably priced even at normal rates. There are three nines. The staff generally steers people to course 2 and 3, but you owe it to yourself to play course 1 at some point. Course 1 is short and tight, course 2 medium length with some interesting green placements, and course 3 a longer more wide open course. Personally, the 1 & 2 course has more "character", but some are going to think course 1 is too short. Being an older golfer, that doesn't matter to me. Greens are reasonably fast, the fairways have that super short cut grass I seem to have trouble finding, and the layouts aren't overly punitive. Some houses are closer to fairways than they should be, but it's only a handful of holes that presents a problem. Is this as good as Gold Mountain? No. But, on days GM is packed, probably this isn't. It is worth checking out.

As a rusty 20+ handicap player, perhaps this wasn't the best course to choose, but I sure had fun anyway. I drove up early on a Sunday morning without a reservation. No problems getting on and I was the first one off. Due to the nature of this wooded links layout, I didn't see a soul the rest of the day except going from the 9th green to 10th tee. The greens were firm, true, and fast - might as well be putting on a pool table. They did hold a well shot iron, at least the one or two I hit all day. Long puts usually meant big benders in route to the hole. Rolling hills and elevation changes made hitting shots an adventure. If you stayed in the fairways, you were treated with hitting off a luscious carpet of short cut green grass. Me? I spent considerable time hacking out of the tall grass or moderately shaggy rough area. Most tees had long grassy areas right in front, so make sure you get the tee shot elevated. Water doesn't come in too play very often but some strategically placed marsh areas provided plenty of problems. All in all a high quality course and I recommend it highly. Please take bug spray just in case.
