Streamsong Resort - Blue Course
Played On 05/22/2017Thinking course
1st, signage being so non-existent, glad we had the caddie. Bit pricey ($40 per person), but the caddie got us they the round easily. Without the caddie, the course would really back-up.
The course was created with great $$ expense. Tall dunes, pools or lakes, bunkers galore. Elevated greens, elevated tees, uphill fairways, and more bunkers.
Fairway bunkers, defensive (stay away from) bunkers, greenside (deep) bunkers. Not soft sand either but hard pack or gravelly. Fairways are tight lies mixed with uneven or sidehill lies
Gotta think of your yardage and then the hazard necessary to be considered.
You hit straight but you better consider the slope of the fairway (leading to waste land) or your roll (yep -- into a bunker).
Very long (5500yds) from forward tee so wife had to work at some shots. Course is devoted to male - low handicappers (Jan to Apr walkers only as carts are NG.).
Drivers landing is easy. Fairways, as said are tight lies (low grass) , require ball to fly not roll.
Several over water, and others over native areas. Very aerobic as walking in 30-50yds required on each hole. Up and down hills both cart path and fairways.
Greens are in good shape. Many are tiered or just undulating. Put up or down is required on each hole. Slippery in reading how the ball rolls and turns away.
Streamsong is out there where nowhere is in sight.
Developed over waste / by-product land (a former phosphate strip mine) ... Why do I mention this ? ... well as you create something, you have to bring in the services that aren't here. Ice to have it converted to golf. Fore!
Celebration Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2017Enjoyable but you gotta think ..
Switched from playing the Disney courses; do like them but was branching out.
Celebration is not a free ride ... you get worried when playing the 1st hole with its narrowness, side water, rolling mounds (above your height) & strategically placed bunkers. You think this is going to be 'target golf' but it isn't. Yes, you have side water but not the hit-over lakes that some may not appreciate. Yes, you have strategically placed bunkers but these can be avoided even if for your a 'long -ball, low handicappers'.
Florida had had a dry couple of months, but for the most part, the fairways and greens are green - hats off to the staff for the excellent conditions. Some tee areas can be dry and brown. On the back #15, irrigation leakage caused some damage. Some edges of the greens were water to much or mowed too close as bald spots were apparent.
But overall, each hole was in good shape to be enjoyed. Openness, so wind was a factor to consider.
Refreshment cart came around frequently, comfort stations #3&8 good, #12 was closed, green sand bottles were on the carts but players were not using them as many a divot was un-repaired.
Greens were true for putting. The undulation was readable but not guarantee on sinking that put. Sidehill led to downhill so don't get mad at the ball when it takes off downhill.
Don't , repeat don't, be long.
Some of the back 9 bunkers are deep (6-8ft lower then green surface).
Pro shop Staff ok. Outside staff friendly. No cart GPS.
Windmill resturant nice place to collect yourself after the round.
Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
Played On 09/21/2016Good conditions
A resort course. Maintained well.
Google GPS shows it wrong.
Tees green and you can see fairways. From tips to forward a good selection to choose your yardage. If high capper, whites start requiring a long 100+ yd tee carry.
Fairways ok but if your tendency to slice/hook better carry extra balls. Washes are across 8 fairways. Summertime so expect longer grass. Sides have rolling mounds.
Greens aren't elevated; just slanted back to front, or off side. Only 1 side water. Some rolling mounds to greens.
No burn out. Very good shape. Staff attentive. Signage for most part good.
Miromar Lakes Golf Club
Played On 06/01/2016A Thinkers Course !
Sunny day, warm at 11am on. Noisy 1st nine as next to I-75; not really anything on back nine.
Tees, fairway& greens very good shape. Bunker sand good.
Course Got:
-- Narrow off the tee especially for back & mid tees. Back tees, 125 yds of carry & best to be straight.
-- Middle of the fairway sand areas & or hard gravel areas on side. (Stay out of the hard gravel areas).
-- High mounds on sides, Roll-a-board areas. -- Side water by greens.
-- Elevated greens.
Course Management a must because hazards are there. Be aware of clubs used as yardage could deliver your ball in them. IE: flat fairway; bunkers on right at 125 & greenside, water on left or elevated fairway with hidden bunkers.
Lunch good; service great.
Glad I went here.
Trump National Doral Miami - Red Tiger Course
Played On 05/29/2016Red -- good 16 of 18 holes for High Handicappers
GPS in carts; be aware when you approach the green, the cart shuts off till you go to cart path.
The pars are equally divided: 6 of each 3s, 4s & 5s. Most players are Blue & White, but we were White & Red.
Except for 5&6, Red Tiger was a thinking course management exercise.
#5 had a green with sharp sides leading to water or bunkers. Carry not bad with 50yds from edge before water to green. You need to be high in the air to prevent roll of the green.
#6 had 100yd carry over water and water to the rear of green.
Good condition: Tees, Fairways, Sand (soft) and greens. Bunkers had high to steep lips. Bunkers are many but can be avoided.
Side water galore with sharp drop off. Most roll ins are retrievable. Rough doesn't stop the rolling ball.
Strange to us were the proximity of the Tees boxes. Be careful to read the Hole signs.
Bonita Bay East - Sabal Course
Played On 05/03/2016Great conditions, Great place to play, Great lunch, Great views
Pleasant staff whether ProShop, Bag drop, carts, ranger, resturant.
Course very well maintained, always see 20 people working whether cutting grass,, bunker maintenance, weed control, rangering.
'Bring your vacuum' ... the fairways remind you of a green carpet! Picturesque holes - front nine easier then back nine. Wide fairways, side water. If hitting from back tees, you got a test. Front tees no test till 10 thru 18 as hitting over preserves or close in side water. Some rolling mounds on some holes. Side gulleys exist both off fairways and greens. Better in them then water!
Fast greens to put. Practice putting green will show you that as it continues to the course. Could get dry with no rain and this will impact course. Yes there's shade at tees.
Good eatery there for lunch or an after round liberation.
King and Bear Golf Course at World Golf Village
Played On 04/17/2016Good Golf Experience
Enjoyed the layout of this golf course. Front nine is different topography then back nine. Front has elevation changes approaching the green - down and up, deep bunkers are a result (one is over your head). Back is playing golf in a flat open parkland.
Bunkers, front & back 9s, have steep, deep lips to them. Sand ok but best to 'really' avoid them. There are 'middle of the fairway' bunkers.
Back tees encounter side water on most holes. Some holes have sandy areas where the carts use in lieu of a cart path.
Fairway grass is green, no weeds. Tee boxes excellent shape. Greens good. Asked about grass collar on Hole #17 (read prior GAdv review - different type of grass & color) but didn't get any answer. Could put thru with no issue.
Putting fast and affected by subtle changes greens. Long rangers can be thru 2 - 3 changes. Putting can add 10 strokes if your not careful.
Slammer and Squire Golf Course at World Golf Village
Played On 04/13/2016Good for low handicaps
Tees, fairways, rough, greens were in good shape -- green not browned out, weeds were recently srayed, divots for the most part were filled in with sand. Did see evidence of water / drainage issues but not an issue playing.
Putting can be an issue. Tough to take time with foursomes coming up. Very subtle changes that you can't readily see. Yes, part of the game.
Front 9 different from back 9. Front is tree lined, back is open fields. Both are fun and fair. Rolling mounds in fairways common so expect uneven lies. On 11 tee you drive in a narrow chute. On 13,14, you hit over bunker/water. Low h/c's side water & bunkers. High h/c's got to tread the neddle bete the greenside hazards.
Staff very courteous. You park by the I Golf Hall of Fame and are driven (100yes) to clubhouse. Great lunch at Legends!!
Overall good playing course for everyone.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 04/12/2016Some greens Target Golf
Nice views of the Low Country, marshes, & Harbour River. BUT this is 'target' golf on 6 holes, 7 holes you have hit over water or native areas. On 2, you have air carries twice to first a landing area then the green. A total of 11. You have to have a (air) carry of 100 yards.
There are deep bunkers, some are 'pocket' type. Some fairways are up & down, greens are elevated with some very elevated. Most protected.
The point is low shots, or ground stingers will not do well here. That's why I feel Old South is for Low handicappers, ball in the air types.
Holes are either Hilton Head style: narrow, trees or wetland, water sides, dog-legs OR Links: wide, fields, rolling mounds, OR Target landing areas.
Most fairways ok, but saw dry areas. 1st farway sides are hard pan. Greens are ok; saw no issues except my putting with the undulation.
Hibiscus Golf Club
Played On 10/31/2013Old Line Course
I enjoyed the break away. Fairways bit beaten up with the rain Naples has had. Easy, unless you slice & hook.
Bunkers ok shape. Greens good. Look for cpn in papers.
Hi "Clairs" We appreciate you taking the time to review our course. Thank you for the feedback hope to see you back out on the course in the near future. Thanks MGT
