Old Marsh Golf Club
Played On 06/30/2015The "purist" golf club
One of my all-time favorite golf courses to play in florida, this Pete Dye private layout never fails to impress me. The abundance of marshes and wetlands dictates your shot selecton. You feel like you are playing in the everglades' as the course blends in nicely with the beautiful natural settings. Superb conditioned course from tee to green. Several memorable holes like the #17 for example which requires a blind approach over a two-story mound with a bunker on top. This course should be on your bucket list.
Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club - Match Course at Old Trail
Played On 06/22/2015Another Fazio winner
A traditional Fazio design lots of bunkering and relatively narrow fairways. Unusual for south florida is the contured fairways lined with lakes, pines and wetlands. Superb conidtioned course. Very challenging layout with the exception of the ordinary par 3 holes. Visually appealing course. Because the course is out of the way to get to, you feel like you have your own private club within a private club. Jump at a chance to play this club.
Mayacoo Lakes Country Club
Played On 06/04/2015Mayacoo is cool
This was the first course design by Jack Nicklaus and some say one of his best. Beautifully landscaped private course lined with lots of pine trees and palm trees. This plus the fact that 13 of the holes have water hazards makes shot placement critical here. While challenging , the course is fair no matter which of the six tees you play from. Great conditioned course. Jump at a chance to place this lush course.
Seagate Country Club
Played On 05/24/2015New name, new improvements
Once a private club called the Hamlet has now been acquired by the Seagate Hotel and bears its name. They have made some improvements on the course and is now a semi-private club. The layout is characterized by multiple fairway bunkers. The Par 3s
are challenging holes each with a different look. Still I think the green fees are a little overpriced for the overall golfing experience here.
South at Quail Ridge Country Club
Played On 05/20/2015Another Joe Lee gem
I know several low-handicap competitive golfers who love this private Joe Lee designed golf course, and finally I can see why. This is matured well-conditioned golf course with a long distinguished golfing tradition(Sam Snead and Claude Harmon were once members) The course is beautifully landscaped in a natural style . While the clubhouse is showing its age, the golf course does not due to recent updates.. Excellent practice facilities are available. The day I played the greens were fast because the club was hosting the women's U.S Open qualifier there the next day. Jump at a chance to play this splendid golf course.
Trump International Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2015Lives up to the hype.
As you drive thru the gilded gates, you know that this is going to be something special, This 27-hole private layout consists of the 18-hole championship course and a nine-hole course called The Nine Course. Skip the ordinary nine hole layout. The Championship course is visually stunning with elevated tees, superb conditioning and lush landscaping, streams and waterfalls. They recommend you use a caddy which only adds to the experience. Excellent driving range.
The 9th hole is the closest that I will ever get to heaven.
Aberdeen Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/04/2015Aberdeen is not your typical florida layout
How can you not like a course that has a hole designed with Marilyn Monroe in mind and is named after her? This challenging private layout is made up of a series of elevated tees, mounds, traps and undulating greens. Generous fairways are bordered by lots of water. Every hole offers 8 different tees.
One Par 4 hole has a landing area lined by two 25-ft mountains. Quite unique to florida. A real test of golf.
Ranch at Black Diamond Ranch Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/09/2015QUARRY COURSE SPOILS YOU FOR OTHER COURSES
The 18-hole layout is in excellent condition and would be a treat to play even without the 3 or 4 holes that were carved out of a quarry. Add those holes and you have a truly unique golfing experience in Florida. . Expensive .
Brooksville Country Club
Played On 03/08/20152 golf courses in 1
This is a strange but wonderful golf course. The front nine is an average layout with spotty course conditions. Once you make the turn it is like playing a whole different course- excellent condition, elevated tees, and three extraordinary golf holes carved out of a limestone quarry. Wow . The modest golf fees is the icing on the cake and makes this a memorable golf experience.
Banyan Golf Course
Played On 01/20/2015a Joe Lee gem
One of my favorite courses to play in S, Florida. This private Joe Lee designed layout is truly unique to Palm Beach county. You will not see any homes as you play this superbly conditioned layout. Also, none of the holes parallel each other. Lots of natural foliage adds to the golfing experience.
Links at Bear Lakes Country Club
Played On 01/16/2015A Real Test of Golf
This beautiful and challenging Nicklaus designed private course is located n the heart of West Palm Beach. It plays like a seaside Scottish links course and is a real test of your short game. Deep bunkers, rolling greens and clusters of native grass greet you at almost every hole. One of my favorites.
Oneida Community Golf Club
Played On 09/02/2014Historic Oneida Ltd. course
This historic course is over 100 years and was for most of those years a private course available only to its corporate employees and guests . Now public ,the course consists of rolling hills and fairways crossed by several streams . Some shot strategy comes into play. Some of the holes don't drain very well after a rainy day. Still, an interesting golf experience worth the trip.
Valley View Municipal Golf Course
Played On 08/25/2014Aptly named golf course
This mature Robert Trent Jones layout because of its location(right in the city) and value gets a lot of play.
The front nine is the most interesting and challenging of the 18 holes offering two holes with outstanding views of the Valley. The back nine is nothing special. Overall, this enjoyable course is well worth a visit.
Teugega Country Club
Played On 08/20/2014A classic golf course frozen in time
This classic Donald Ross designed private course is located at the foothills of the Adirondacks and the shores of Lake Delta in Rome NY. The course has not significantly changed from the original 1921 design making it a golf time capsule. Unlike the majority of Ross courses built over the years, Ross personally supervised the construction of this layout.
Rolling terrains with relatively small greens makes this a a real classic golf experience. No two holes are alike in this tree lined course. Jump at a chance to play this beautiful course frozen in time
Kaluhyat Golf Club at Turning Stone
Played On 08/11/2014One of the toughest courses in New York State
This Robert Trent Jones design is the most challenging of the three superb courses that make up the Turning Stone Resort. The tree-lined layout consists of different elevated fairways and tees and well-guarded greens. It is a shot-makers course.
Bring plenty of golf balls. Beautiful views . Very expensive greens fees. But worth the tariff once and awhile when you want a real golfing experience.
The Breakers - Ocean Course
Played On 08/05/2014A step back in time
This is the oldest 18-hole golf course in florida but it
was beautifully redesigned in 2000. Relatively, short course but its several dogleg holes makes it interesting. Superb condition with stunning landscaping. Expensive to play but with a nice touch of class and a feeling of old Florida.
Cortland Country Club
Played On 07/30/2014An upstate ny gem with a long history
A beautiful course that doesn't show its age. Superb condition. Several holes with elevated tees and greens that makes this a fun layout. If you get a chance to play this private club jump at it.
Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone
Played On 07/28/2014upstate golf oasis
Wow. What a golf course. This Rick Smith design always makes any top 10 New York State golf course
ranking. Wide fairways with a links feeling. Superb conditions. Challenging rough. It is expensive so I usually play it when I can get a special rate or want to treat myself or somebody else. A must golfing experience.
Green Lakes Golf Course
Played On 07/24/2014Real gem
A Robert Trent Jones gem in Upstate NY. Beautiful rolling layout at a reasonable rate. Best overall value and golfing experience in the Syracuse area.
Kanon Valley Country Club
Played On 07/21/2014A well-kept secret
