Relaxing
I love this course because it's a great beginner course that is well maintained with very friendly staff. It isn't the most challenging course but it's great for getting back to basics. Low stress and enjoyable with some very fun holes.
Good Value
$15 for 10 holes is a great price. Facilities are old but the course lets you hit a lot of different clubs. Greens are very slow but overall the course is in nice condition.
Poor management but nice course
Manager would not allow us to play the 18th hole because we played through the foursome in front of us. The manager claimed that we should not have played through and said we slowed down play as a result. Very nice course but extremely poor management.
Old School Course
This was my 3rd time playing this course and I always seem to enjoy it. It's definitely a short course, but if you grip it and rip it every time without thinking about your shot, you are going to be in trouble! The only downside to the round was that I was put into a 4some upon arrival. The guys I played with were extremely friendly, but I generally prefer to play alone to keep my pace of play fast.
Built in 1931... Play it while you can!
I have played this course many times over the years and have seen it in good and bad shape. Today was one of its finer moments. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in excellent shape. The holes actually had rough protecting them, which was amazing considering you can drive your cart almost anywhere on the course since car paths are minimal.
This course is short, but you can still hit driver unless you consistently hit over 275 yards, then hit your 3 wood or irons. The course require good placement of your mid to short irons to score well. That being said most golfers will get a couple pars per round to make you smile and want to come back. The greens are slower than most around columbus, but that is ok. Give it a good firm run and they still go in.
In addition, this course makes you think placement and strategy of your tee shot rather than just hammer it. If you want to work on that part of your game, this is your course. There are a few holes that require you to lay up or be very good... or lucky..to carry the ravine. For being a short course it makes you think.
Next, how many players can say that they played on a course built during the Great Depression? And for as little as 10 bucks. This course could easily be one from a seen from The legend of Bagger Vance. If I could find a pair of knickers I'd wear them here.
Finally, this is a course you can bring beginning players, your kids, your wife, your girlfriend, or all of the above! The pace of play can be what you make of it. I've played it in less than 3 hrs.
Those of you who think you are Rory or Bubba will probably think this course is not good enough for you. That's fine there are plenty of other courses in the area. However, you will miss a hidden gem.
On a side note... If the rumors are true about this course being destroyed for more housing it is a shame. For the future developer and residents take a look around that area. The golf course is one of the few positive things in the area. I would use that as the focal point to build around not get rid of. I would say the crime rate in golf communities is far less than others. Then again I'm sure the developers won't be living there so why should they care.
Long Live Minerva Lake Golf Course!
Minerva
Great course in a great neighborhood, I wish they would reconsider getting rid of this place for more houses.
A challenge
This course was challenging but I loved every minute. The Hills and streams on this course makes for beautiful backdrop. I will definitely play this course again!!
Great course
Minerva is a shorter course but has small and challenging greens. The natural ravine that winds throught the course provides for several holes that force you to lay up providing a second or third shot into the green. Par 5's are short but the par threes are all challenging either due to shoolting over the ravine or length. The final hole is very short 85-90 yds, but very tight and fun to end with.
If your looking for a course to work on your short game there are few better than this course.
Minerva Golf Course
Good course for a quick round especially on a weekend.
what a gem
A true gem of a course, right on the city! Best shape I've ever seen it! Great value, too! Go play it before it's too late!
Nice course
A good neighborhood course. I hope they don't close it.
Nice Course
For the value, it was a fun little course with matured vegetation.
Better than expected
Good mix of easy and hard holes, drivable par 4's but 245 yard par 3 and lay up par 4's with 170 shots for the second over ravines. Much better conditioned fairways and rough than expected. Greens are slowish but smooth and grassy. Ball will hold on good shots. Your HDCP will go up as course rating and slope are low and birdies are tough to come by. Play it if you want to know what courses used to be like, no McMansions on every fairway. 3 1/2 hour round a bonus.
Minerva
The greens were in good shape and the course was well maintained. Ran In to a snapping turtle in one of the cricks but saved the bogey. I would recommend this course to others for sure.
Great for the money
Golf now $10 dollar hot deal. Can't go wrong. Gray staff, friendly people. Clean manicured course.
Good "old boy"course
I got the feeling as a single player that I was not wanted. The staff could care less if you had anything to say . Its like the staff, especially starter, resented that I was allowed to play as a single. I will never play here again nor will I recommend this course to my friends!
9 hole $$ is perfect
This course is the best buy in Columbus for 9 holes on a weekend!
Decent value course
This course is somewhat easy, most holes are pretty wide open and bunkers have no sand. I like the convince combo of location and price, makes for a great little practice course... but not a place I'm taking my out of town buddies on our weekend trip.
Great course for beginners, seniors, and juniors. Or a nice little practice course for a quick round after work.
Great course
The weather was threatening-we were fortunate to get a rain free round. Staff were great and applauded 3 women for going out under threatening skies. This is a great course that is a hidden treasure in Columbus. Insure hope that the rumors of a sale for a housing development are FALSE!
Good / Bad
This course has it's positives and negatives. Positives is it's short and easy to get around if you make a bad tee no worries you can still make up for it. Negatives: there aren't really any cart paths, tee boxes are so close together that it doesn't matter if you hit from white or blue, and the course itself is VERY cramped. Multiple holes were the tee boxes and green from the previous hole is less than 10 yards apart. P.s. No alcohol is served at this course
So if it is a very nice course, and your only complaint is the one management issue, why did you rate everything else 1 or 2 stars? Doesn't make sense. Grow up and rate appropriately.
