Gem of Tulsa public golf courses

Woodbine is my favorite course in town! We play there often and we always enjoy our time spent! I suggest for golfers of all skill levels to go enjoy this historic course in Tulsa. Real range balls, 36 holes, fast Bermuda greens, excellent staff and all at the best price in town! Why not!

The "snapshot" that gives pace of play 4.5 stars, is incorrect. Unless you routinely play 4.5hour rounds.

There is no marshal, so if the group in front of you is holding your group up, TOUGH! Even if you can get someone to come out from the clubhouse (after calling them from the course), they usually do nothing but say "they are within the 4 hour 25 minute pace of play". Which is all fine and good, unless you normally play in 2.5 hours, in which case, they are NOT keeping up with the pace of play. Recent example (today!) a 2some in front of our 4 some made us wait on EVERY tee shot, and EVERY approach shot (and they had a minimum of 2 entire holes open in front of them). Why? Because they had a little kid about 6 or 7 years old, and they'd let him goof around on the tee block until they saw we were almost done putting and THEN they would go look for their tee shots (under the leaves and such)...

Now... if your normal round of golf takes you 4 hours or more, then pace of play will fit your game. If you are like us and don't feel the need to line up every putt from all 4 sides, and don't feel the need to all go to one ball, watch it be hit, then go to the next ball and watch that shot, etc (we hit when we are ready!) then, pace of play will aggravate you to no end because there is NO ONE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT TO that will do anything. You "could" go confront the slow group yourself, but half the time it is a group of younger guys that are drinking and have NO idea of golf etiquette so you probably wouldn't want to open up THAT can of worms... but it shouldn't be the golfer's responsibility to maintain pace of play, that should be up to the COURSE MARSHAL, which is non-existent at Mohawk Golf Course. Funny, their sister course Page Belcher has marshals....and starters... and only charges 3 dollars more than Mohawk. If that's what it takes to get marshals and starters at Mohawk, CHARGE ME AN EXTRA 3 DOLLARS!!

I can overlook the bare spots in the fairways... the absence of sand in the bunkers....the standing water in fairways (and bunkers) after even moderate rains... the knee deep "leaves" on some fairways and by all the fences this time of year (lost 3 balls in the fairway in last 2 rounds)... and the ball washers with no liquid in them, BUT I cannot stand to have to wait to hit my tee shot because some "golfer" that just hit a 180 yard "good" drive is waiting for the green to clear 250 yards away (into the wind, uphill).... or waiting to hit my approach because some "golfer" is on the green lining up his 5 foot putt (for a 9 or a 10) from every angle, or marking his missed putt that is 5" from the hole... TAP THAT SUCKER IN AND MOVE ON!!

And, I hate waiting ANYTIME just because someone is goofing off in front of me like TODAY(letting their 6 or 7 year old kid whack away at a golf ball regardless of where it goes)... sure is funny how they never let the little kid goof around on holes 9 or 10 which are right by the clubhouse..... and like I said, there is no marshal within a hundred miles to take care of it on the rest of the course.

Having said all that, I play over 100 rounds a year at Mohawk Golf Course, and when it is in the 40's outside, or in the upper 90's are about the only time you don't have to worry about slow groups... and/or groups with no idea of golf etiquette (mainly because there are fewer groups out there). (Although, when the course is close to empty, it also seems like the music playing 'golfers' have the music louder than ever..)

Yet, I STILL recommend this course to friends, with the proviso that it may be a "long" round, because it's not a bad course overall. If you catch it at the right time, you can have a GREAT, speedy round there. The staff are nice, friendly, knowledgeable and all, but it would be really nice to have an actual starter AND an actual Marshal.

Woodbine

This coarse is wide open and fairly easy to play, I just got my toes amputated 2 weeks before playing and still shot an 85. Never had to wait on a tee all day and was not pressed to play any faster. Golf now gets you an amazing price to play.

Pretty Good Value

This course was fairly easy to play. We got a "Hot Deal" from GolfNow and played for fairly cheap. We struggled some with pace of play on the front nine, but were able to pass a few slow groups and play the back fairly quickly. The course was in decent shape. It showed a few wear and tear issues from the June heat, but nothing too noticeable. The course played somewhat short, which made for easier chances for the average golfer to hit a green in regulation. The course as several elevation changes on the back nine which made for some fairly nice scenery and challenges.

Usually not busy

This course is usually not that busy. The greens are small and have champion Bermuda. The greens were decent on the day that I played. The fairways were a little rough in spots so you might want to allow yourself to move the ball in the fairways. Best things about this course is that it's inexpensive and not overcrowded. You can finish a round in 3 1/2 hours with a cart. This course is also walkable which is nice for those of us who want the exercise.

Why I will never use Golf Now again

I had to pay for an additional person who didn't show up after I booked on top of the $9.00 fee. The golf course said I paid more than I would have if I just booked it through them, so why do I need Golf Now and I qualify for senior discounts. I will never use Golf Now again.

Nice Local Course

Woodbine is the easiest of the public courses in Tulsa. It is well maintained and has a very friendly staff. It mostly caters to senior golfers. It is great for a leisurely round of golf with no hassles.

Great Course, Good Price

Woodbine, the longer of the 2 Mohawk courses is an excellent course to have a fun, enjoyable round on. The facilities are laid back, carts are in good condition, and the course is always well maintained. For the price you won't find anything that beats it. The only recommendation I would have is that pace of play is always on the slow side here.

The course has always been a good value for the price.

Knowing the city of Tulsa does not put money into the course , Billy Casper Golf does an excellent job keeping the course playable and in good shape. There are 1 or 2 greens that have damage caused by a mole , but they have the greens in playable condition. The staff always speak to you and answers your questions to the best of their knowledge. I would recommend playing this course to anybody.

Good Greens, but the fairways...

The greens were in great shape which is why this review is bumped up to 3 stars, but every other aspect of the course is in pretty poor condition. The bunkers are mud holes, the fairways are a 60/40 split of grass/weeds. The rough is mowed down to fairway, or up depending on your perspective. The course is poorly designed for drainage (ton of standing water and not marked as a hazard). And the course is extremely short. Many of the par 4's are drivable (only 2 over 400 yrds from the men's tee. I am not sure what the men's tee is rated, but I would guess it is in the 110/63 range. This is the quintessential muni. They are extremely proud of their beverage service $3.50 for a small Gatorade, and $$$ for domestic brews.

The course lay out is very confusing.

The course lay out is very confusing and signs are not easy to follow. It seems it needs a little bit updating on the fairway and upkeeping on the green. No drinking fountains on the course but the staff are very friendly. Overall, it's a playable course.

Good course. Has come along way

The last time I played this course the greens were slow and about dead most fairways were just dirt and this was early in the year around the middle of May about 5 years ago. This time the course was in the best shape I have ever seen. The greens were firm, fast, and in perfect condition. The fairways were in great shape with just a couple having a thin area where the sun is hard to get to and this was the begining of August. It was raining when I played and there was no flooding problems as in the past. This course has certainly become a well kept secret in the Tulsa area and I will be playing it again soon.
