great golf at all levels
This course was developed in the 1950s with funds from a tax levy for children's sports. As such it is a course especially friendly to beginners as well as seniors.
Excellent for par3
I expected very short Par 3 course. However, there were many holes that have longer than 170 yard!! It was great for Par3!! I would definitely recommend this couse for the practice before playing regular gold course that definitely give you better score.
Not a winter course
terrible course. They didn't have real tee boxes, they had mats like those from a driving range. There was no fairway to speak of, which might not seem like a big deal for a par 3 course, but the greens were tiny and there wasn't even a fringe to chip from. You were either on the green or in the deep rough. And speaking of deep rough, the drainage was so poor that if you have any sort of loft in your shot and you miss a green, good luck finding your ball. It will not only be lost in the tall grass, it will be plugged. Also no bunkers whatsoever. If you're a golfer avoid this course. If you're not and you want to go hack around, have at it.
good for beginners
It is good place to practice short game. The green are well managed. The one problem is that there are many slow players, so I was waiting for a long time.
Played 27 holes
I played this course with a friend visiting from California. We played 18 and were having such a good time that I went back to the Pro Shop for another 9. The course is just coming out of aeration so the putts were picking up some sand. The fairways had more loose grass than I would have expected. A great place to tune-up your short irons.
good course to practice your short game,
Starter was very rude! Need to respect all golfer who come to the course, not just the people he knows who play the course regular!
Great par 3!
Had a great time with a few friends while discovering this well maintained little course. Got through it in about 3 hours. Not super challenging (some elevation changes and two dog-legs) but overall some well maintained fairways and greens. There is a driving range and putting green onsite in case you need to warm up. Wish I had! Pro shop was reasonably priced and restaurant smelled amazing. Nice little gem in LO!
fun course
We got a lot of Practice with our short game. The greens have a steep drop off so staying on the green was tough. Over all it was a nice open course and we played all 18 in a about 2.5 hours.
Didn't know it was a par three course.
We wouldn't have played it if we had known it was a par three course. That should be noted when it is listed for play. Wasn't in bad shape, but lots of inexperienced golfers made the play slow and kids running around and making noise was irritating. Wouldn't play it again.
My favorite public golf course in the area
This is a very good public gc for beginners. It is my favorite public gc in the Portland metro area.
Most of the holes are 100-200 ft/par 3, so I use only irons there.
They have a driving range.
Pace of play is too slow
You are always waiting for someone when you are done with your hole it is a short course and it takes longer to play then a normal sized course. They need to make there tee times more spread out or have a Marshall going around and makeing sure people are playing at a good pace and let the faster people play through. The only good deals they have are on golf now there prices are way too much for a short course that gets watered to much on the tee boxes they also have a guy riding on a golf cart watering the course while you are playing. They really just need to make the tee times farther apart because people take too long one the course it should not take almost 4 hours to play 18 holes.
Best Par 3 Course I've Played
Was in Portland on vacation and had some extra time one morning, so we played this course on a whim. Teed off at 8:30am and finished in just over 2 hrs. Very leisurely round. Course was in very good shape and the "greens were in great shape". Elevation changes and varied hole lengths (74 yds. - 179 yds.), allow you to use many different irons. No bunkers.
a challenging par-3 course
I've played Lake-O many years before and it's not a bad place to practice your 'short game', but the driver rarely comes out of the bag, and since you're typically hitting less shots - for a lower par rating, it seems a bit over priced to play there, including the $25 cart fee. You're done in 3 hrs and typically it's 4 to 5 hours at a full course for about the same or less money.
The greens were in good shape and their speeds were consistent but the layout of the course is confusing and the proximity off fairways to greens and tee boxes is often a little close for comfort. I Also found many shots rolling off the greens due to their small size and the very short layups, so it's not an intermediate-friendly-golfer course. Overall I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
Fabulous day!
It was a little bit hot so not too crowded. Played nine holes then enjoyed an unbelievably delicious lunch at the clubhouse (chicken and veggie tacos).
Can't wait to return!
Challenging short course!
First time playing here, pleasantly surprised. The staff and course were great. The biggest challenge was hitting the extremely small greens! No bunkers, so lot of opportunities to get up and down. Hit every iron in the bag, fun course if you don't have time for a long round. Greens on slow side.
Suprisingly challenging
We were not to sure about spending a sunday morning playing a par 3. But we enjoyed our time there. Challenging and a 2hr full round. We will go back to test our skills.
some par 3s had a good distances
The course was good walking. The course had some longer par 3 distances than normle par 3. This was really good to challenge. There was a lot of people golfing Friday. A lot of women teams were the most number groups. The ones I saw seemed to be having a lot of fun.
Lovely course
Course is in terrific shape. Easy to walk, fun and lovely. I am a short hitter and had to use my driver on the longer holes, or hitting uphill. Longer hitters should not have to use a driver.
Food options were a nice surprise, no hot dogs here. Great cooks from El Salvador fixing up rice, beans, marinated beef, pork or chicken.
Situated in a lovely older neighborhood.
