Worst golf course ever
This place is a joke. Worst golf course in all of San Diego. I drove all the way from santee which was a 30 min drive to play this course. I had a tee time at 12:10 today. I called to let them know I was running 5 minutes behind. I spoke to Gabriel and told him I would be there and I would skip a hole and catch up to my group. He said ok. I show up and he tells me I will have to wait behind a group of 8 players which is un heard of…. due to the fact he sent another person in my spot at my tee time that I reserved days before.
It’s definitely a good bang for your buck. The greens are in really good shape and bite pretty well. The pace of play can definitely get really bad sometimes. Especially when there is a tournament. I’ve expressed in the past that they should be charging more for the tournament, and have 2-3 less tee times for the public on those days. The average round time here is about 5 hours if not a little longer. There are a lot of areas in the fairways that should be marked for ground under repair but are not.
The next thing is that they need a starter. It’s never clear on who is up next on the tee box.
The staff are pretty friendly and helpful when running into issues at the course, but I don’t think a lot of this is avoidable.
Best time to go here is during the week days.
Course needs some serious work
The staff was very nice, but the course needs a LOT of work. The fairways have huge patches of dirt and are not well maintained on the front 9 holes, however the back 9 were a little better but still need to be better maintained. The greens were okay, but they were very slow. The pace of play was very slow, and the group behind us were extremely rude and were yelling at my group and tried to pick a fight with my Dad because the pace of play was slow and they thought we were the ones holding up the game when we had 2 groups in front of us that were backing the course up. The Marshall’s didn’t do anything. All in all, I will say this will be my first and last time playing at this course. I wanted to try a new course, but this was not the course for me.
Grass is looking way better
There's bare spots like always but the course is is in really good shape for what it has to offer. I was really surprised on how good it's looking.. good job greens keeper. Greens where punched 2-3 weeks ago so by Halloween this course will be looking at it's BEST..
Great Golf Course
Top Course for San Diego County
CVGC
Fairways had massive dry spots. Aside that, the course is very wide open. Great for beginners! Got a great package deal thanks to the GolfNow app!
Decent
Good for the money, pace of play is good, but there are a lot of dry patches on the fairway and around the greens.
Good facility. Needs Fairway reconstruction.
I always have liked Bily Casper designs.
Good site and open fairways But you are forgiven on a drive a little off center....watch out on the approach shot.
You have to be precise to set up a birdie.
Course needs a long term plan to shut one hole at a time
replace turf in fairways. Plow and treat soil reseed place a pitch hole to existing greens should not be a inconveniece for players.
With repaired fairways this would be an excelent public course.
Fairways
Greens were in good shape but the fairways were awful
Don't play here
Why the City of Chula Vista doesn't invest money in this muni course is beyond me. The course has so much potential. It is in the middle of Rohr park, the 2nd largest public park in the county. Beautiful surroundings, yet it is in terrible conditions!
The fairways, if you can call them that, are dirt pathways with a lot of mud. The greens were airing, so all of the SOCAL ones, no blame here.
Please do something about this course!
Shaking my head
A group of SIX PEOPLE were ahead of me,!not only should that never have been allowed in the first place, but after multiple people called the clubhouse to complain about the insanely slow pace of play. The club house did nothing to fix the situation. I became so frustrated I left after just 10 holes. Not to mention the course is in horrible condition. Slow greens, more mud than there is grass. I guess that’s what you get if you don’t pay an arm and a leg for green fees 🤦🏻♂️
. Casper really didn’t do much at Chula other then living close by as HM Rainville and son did all the work. Same happened with Torrey in the 70’s. Casper name was on the redesign but it was all David Rainville.
